One of the brothers was going through a sad divorce and the song came to him. He was contemplating his life and death. He decided that the only thing you take with you is love. Hard feelings are a waste of energy. A beautiful song. There’s a documentary about them on HBO. Good job listening to the lyrics. Smart guys-both of you.

Oh man please don't stop here with the Avett Brothers. But do all of us a favor and make the rest of their videos all live. They are so so so much better live. I would highly recommend Laundry Room (I swear it isn't sad). Please just remember that Avett Brothers = love performances. These guys don't completely sell out the largest venue in Nashville for no reason.

One of the most beautiful & powerful songs ever written. It's lyrics are true for everyone because we will all at some point die & us coming to terms with that fact is something we all will face. How will we handle that? Will we live a life where we have all sorts of regrets or will we pass knowing we have given life our all & pass having forgiven those who have wronged us with no hard feelings? If you want to check out my cover of this song click on my picture. I've got 2 versions up. One of which I did after hearing a friend had passed. It's a song I would love to have played at my memorial service. Of course it's not as good as Seth singing it, I had just learned the song. It would take me playing it everyday for 10 years to play it as good as Seth Avett but I think they are pretty good for just learning the song. But if you think it sucks that's fine too as long as you leave constructive criticisms as to why you think it sucks. Thanks Tate V.

THANK YOU for finally reviewing The Avett Brothers. They are amazing songwriters, and No Hard Feelings is bar far the best song they have ever written. Bummer that it was blocked on KZread and you had to edit so much😢 Do yourselves a favor and watch the May It Last documentary, which was filmed while the band was recording True Sadness album. The recording of No Hard Feelings was featured in the film and shows you the impact this song had on Scott and Seth. I love your channel, y’all are hilarious! It was making my skin crawl every time they mispronounced their name! But I'm ecstatic that they were able to enjoy and understand the song for everything it was worth. Although their musical style isn't everyone's taste and most people can't get past that, I've always loved them for their universally appealing lyrics. It's something everyone can identify with.

I almost mentioned the pronunciation but figured it was cool enough to see them do the reaction video. I would love to see them do more. But as has been stated by several people, nothing on an album will come close to touching the live version of the same song. Nothing. I would love to see them do a reaction to an early live version of "Satan Pulls the Strings" (one with the extended intro they lead several shows off with). That drum beat and the energy can't be put on an album. (Not to mention the album version of that song is...well...just stick with early live versions). As a 10 show veteran of the band (11th coming up at end of July in Atlanta) I have always tried to use Live Vol 3 as an intro to new listeners. Live is where they really kill it.

Lyrics Transcribed: When my body won't hold me anymore And it finally lets me free Will I be ready? When my feet won't walk another mile And my lips give their last kiss goodbye Will my hands be steady? When I lay down my fears My hopes and my doubts The rings on my fingers And the keys to my house With no hard feelings When the sun hangs low in the west And the light in my chest Won't be kept held at bay any longer When the jealousy fades away And it's ash and dust for cash and lust And it's just hallelujah And love in thoughts and love in the words Love in the songs they sing in the church And no hard feelings Lord knows they haven't done Much good for anyone Kept me afraid and cold With so much to have and hold Mmh When my body won't hold me anymore And it finally lets me free Where will I go? Will the trade winds take me south Through Georgia grain or tropical rain Or snow from the heavens? Will I join with the ocean blue Or run into the savior true And shake hands laughing And walk through the night Straight to the light Holding the love I've known in my life And no hard feelings Lord knows they haven't done Much good for anyone Kept me afraid and cold With so much to have and hold Under the curving sky I'm finally learning why It matters for me and you To say it and mean it too For life and its loveliness And all of its ugliness Good as it's been to me I have no enemies I have no enemies I have no enemies I have no enemies

FINALLY my favorite channel reviewed one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. Thank you. This song is very said yes but it was cathartic for the group to preform. In the documentary of the making of this album called May It Last, the singer, Seth Avett, had to leave the studio because of the emotion behind the meaning of the song. Give them another chance - The Once and Future Carpenter would be a perfect reaction as well as 10,000 Words and Talk on Indolence. Almost any song has amazing lyrics and musicianship.

I connected with this song when the album was first released. I never saw it as a sad song. I see it as a statement of where I am in my own life. Releasing the negativity, living from a place of love, making a point to not carry hatred to my deathbed. I strive for a peaceful life and as they say... I have no enemies. It's about traveling light through life, not about dying. But... one of the beautiful things about any art is that it touches people in different ways. As a woman in my 40s that has carried a lot of baggage for a lot of years, it reminds me to let go of anything that doesn't add light to my life. That philosophy has transformed my life into something so much better than it ever has been. That's why this song touches my soul. Love seeing your take on so many different genres and I respect your willingness to really listen to so many different things. There's beauty and soul in every type of music. Keep it up!

The Avett Brothers are absolute show-stealers live. I've never seen a band capture an audience the way they do. Their ballads are incredible, but I'd love to see you guys react to one of their more up-tempo songs like, "Talk On Indolence" or "A Gift For Melody Anne."

LOVED your heart-felt review. (new to your channel) they are my favorite band hands down. incredible song writing. there are 2 brothers, and the base player is bob crawford. seth and scott avett are brothers. i have followed them for many years (since 2003), seen them countless times, have met them several times, and can't say enough about how their music has absolutely changed my life. what a hole there would be without their music in my life. gonna see them twice next month!!!!!!! their live shows are like nothing else. lastly, it's pronounced AAAAA-vet.....long "A" and "vet" like veterinarian. (the stress is on the 'A") THANK YOU SO MUCH! i hope you helped to turn even more folks on to these incredible brothers. they are so worthy. now i gotta go see what you had to say about chris stapleton......i see that review popped up there at the top. cheers!

Just a little back story of this song, Seth Avett wrote it after the finalization of his divorce with his wife. The entire album is called Divorce Separation Blues all as a reaction to this difficult time in his life. If you want to know more about this amazing band & their wonderful writing & see the heart behind this song, watch the Judd Apatow movie: May it Last. It's a documentary about the band.

The Avett Brothers write truly beautiful songs that touch my soul. To me, the lyrics of No Hard Feelings are as much, if not more, about how we should live our lives and not about what we should do when we're dying. To live our lives with 'no hard feelings," is the way I aspire to live my life...but it's a difficult thing to do.

Maaaan, I don't think you two know what you are doing. I hope you realize the importance of how you react and explorer new music. Although as a lover of music and one who believes strongly that music is one of the great passions and joys on this planet, this goes much much deeper than music. The ability to unobjectively give something a chance and convey pure emotions felt from that experience is inspiring. I honestly think you two are the most important role models for America and subsequently the rest of humanity. If we could take a lesson from how you two dedicate yourselves to fully understanding the depths of genres of music before judging or critizing and apply that to all facets of life we would be much better off. Imagine Democrats and Republicans fully understanding one another before casting shade. Or people of different races or religions or sexual orientation or age or education level or culutre spent the time to sharpen their mind about opposing sides how much better of world we would live in. Think for yourself, not what your friend said or your parents or the media or anyone else, Think for yourself. Thank you guys so much for all the hard work you do putting up these videos. Sincerely much love.

This was the first prompt when I open the KZread this morning, my mother called me to come sit with her that's my dad may not make it through the day! Been struggling to force myself to go and then this comes up. I think I got a signal, my dad and I had both sound nice guys about a year ago not knowing the other had ever heard of them. Playing some other Avett Brothers music for him he immediately stopped me, saying hold on b4 you tell me who that is let me show you this live concert asking this the same band. That's the first time I had ever heard this song was my dad playing it for me. He started crying as well I did. Makes it damn tough to go see him this morning but I guessing God works in mysterious ways huh? So with that said music was our only entertainment when I was growing up we did not have television or air conditioning and I'm only 46. Partially because my parents were hippies and we lived in the TN country. They play everything from Reverend Al 2 Jerry Lee to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Bluegrass to Black Sabbath always said but I never really did my daughter the same way and she can send me a song that I have just downloaded the day before and vice versa. So don't ever think you don't heavily influence and last night thinking of my dad and daughters you make history was every moment. Married 27 years I'm recovering from several years have opiate addiction due to my illness. But with the opiate freaked out my father is lying in the bed dying of lung cancer and cannot get anything for pain anyting! There is definitely a balance here, I somewhat abused mine and you could not force me to get back on morphine unless I was in his situation. Now I'm on my soapbox I have to say one more thing. This scary egomaniac that replaced the best president in my lifetime Obama is affecting the world negatively for everyone except dictators! I paid too much attention 2 politics and trying too hard to inform but nobody seems to care that this guy's doing as much anti-American stuff as Putin did helping him steal our election! He does not represent you or me unless you're Russian! Stay woke while we still can speak freely! I am a subscriber, it's nice to see humans pulling together, humans being well human. Those little brown demons caged at the borders shows just how much the Republican friends & family (I can no longer talk to) care about human life. I vote for the man not the party, I have voted R & D all my life. Didn't vote for the 1st time this past elec., (Didn like either) but now well "twITLER" just destroyed all, not some but all of our friends at NATO! This Mon he is meeting his boss "GLADi'mHere? PUTIN" the "Emperor of the TweetState" let's see who we nuke for him? Ok I'm not crying from song anymore I'm pissed, better dry eyes & go love my Dad, gotta lotta makin up to du! Obama out......we got corRUMPT!
