Dad…I miss you more then any words could convey. It’s been a year now…I walk these floors, your pictures still hang on the walls…the home still has that familiar smell…my Dad. I love you pops. In peace, your son…Jeffrey Herberg.

"it's alright if you finally stop caring, just don't go and tell someone that does, because even though there's hope in every morning song, I have to find that melody alone." Quite simple, yet profound!!! 10/10

Y'all have become my favorite band. I saw you in Huntsville in 05, when my ex was pregnant with my son. Then, the storm really hit. I'm glad y'all haven't sunk as low as me through our lives, cause I needed you guys, but I do feel like we got old together. I wish I could've played like y'all. I wish my songs made me cry now, but I'm too tired to sing anymore. Anyway, The Avett Brothers are the most important band to me. Thank you so much! Sincerely, friggin SINCERELY! You've helped me feel less alone here.

They are a reality in a world of entertainment built with smoke and mirrors, and when they play, the common man can break the mirrors and blow the smoke away, so that all that’s left behind is the unwavering beauty of the songs. That’s the commotion, that’s the celebration, and wherever The Avett Brothers are tonight, that’s what you’ll find.

Dear Deborah, my mothers mother, my grandmother of course, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's by the time I was the age of three. She struggled with the disease for ten grueling years where my mother was her main care. She passed the summer of 2015. Though I have few memories of her while she was of a healthy mind, I do remember reaching through the disease with music. My brother and I would play for her on some of her worst days and, in spite of her disease, she would perk up and every now and again, a subtle smile would creep across her face. I commend you for taking care of your mother even while she is suffering. I understand what a toll it can take on a person as it took one on my mother as well as the entirety of my family. I wish you and your family the best. And I hope your struggles number few in the future. Sincerely, Jack

+Jack Mansfield That's incredible! I remember when I was 5 and my grandmother was diagnosed with heart disease. She died 2 years later from a heart attack. I was so devastated at first. I couldn't comprehend all that which had just happened. I'm sure that you can relate to this feeling of emptiness. The pain really calms down though with such peaceful music. It's nice to see that I am not alone. Even though these may trouble, hurt, and sadden us, we have to realize that life is a great thing, and focusing on the dark shouldn't be the only thing we remember.

As the mind develops more plaque ( the term for what happens to the brain ... like your teeth it is rotting and the useful brain turns to unusable) the brain can rewire itself somewhat as I saw with my father who had a brain tumor and stroke from the tumor. My Mother unfortunately has Alzheimer with a touch of Dementia. There are probably hundreds of classifications of Alzheimer. At the moment she has recognized me every time I visit. She has mistaken my brother for our father and many times asked me what I was talking to my father about in the other room. He has been dead for 8 years and I was in the bathroom reliving myself and no one else was in the house. Alzheimer removes memories randomly. THe only thing you can do is cherish the time you have left. IF YOUR ARE A CARE GIVER. Get help more than half the time the Alzheimer person will outlive the caregiver. Putting a peson in a Nursing home(that specializes or has nures trained for Alziemers patients is needed) YOu have take a break and get some sleep and recoup. Having to worry they will walk out into the night or day undressed or half dressed (as in my mothers case). If they smoke their is an extreme danger for fire. I had my young daughter quit her job and go help my brother during the week between school. Sometimes he just takes a nap and goes no where because he has been up with her till 3am. I go over for the day on the weekend so he can leave and visit his girlfriend. GET help ... other family member need to share the burden or it will effect your health. My Mother once angrily went outside and rang the door bell demanding to be taken home with no clothes on the bottom just her adult diapers. My brother called upset I told him to take her in the car and drive her around and make a big deal about coming home. It worked. He even went to the interstate where we would always drive home from trips to our exit. On the way home was the place she worked for 20 years so he pointed that out. She got out and thanked him for taking her home. Also you will find them collecting stuff in bags. IT is item they remember that are theirs. Think of it as Linus's blanket from Charlie Brown. Comfort bag. Take it with you when you drive them to Doc appts etc. Make a big deal about getting the bag. IT triggers other thoughts if they are confused or upset. They can concentrate on the items in the bag they remember. I can only imagine how upsetting to constantly not be aware of things. LOVE is most important. I remember the days my Mother took care of me as a child and now I help take care of her with the same Love. I lost a sister to Suicide 20 years ago and my wife I took care of with my 2-4 year old until my wife passed away from cancer. I have had my share or grief and love. AS your wife slowly leaves remember the good days and hold onto them. Years later when you remember something and break down and cry .. that is a good thing grief . It reminds us of how much we miss someone and love them. MAY YOUR GRIEF BE STRONG! as mine is for my wife I lost 16 years ago. And now I'm slowly loosing my mother. Music is a comfort to those living .. it is a blessing at times.

Only brilliant songwriters / poets that have lived life, with all of its ups and downs could write something this special. I am particularly moved by the imagery of this song. The use of the word "lets" in "lets me free" shows the union of a body and a soul that is deep to a level that impresses me. Most would say "sets me free" because they believe the soul is being held back, but the Avett Brothers understand the union of the two, and the fact that it is that union that makes us so special as humans. Having been to their concerts, it is almost impossible to leave the crowd and not feel better about humanity and love in general. Their spirit, their songs, their words, their actions, and their music spread love and joy to a level that is indescribable unless you see it for yourself.

"You have to find that melody alone" is one of the great lyrics of all time. So true literally and metaphorically. Makes you wonder who wrote this melody... guessing Scott. This may be their masterpiece although it has some competition..Laundry Room, November Blue, February 7, it's kind of a long list.

I have often thought that if I were a high school English teacher, I would introduce their lyrics alongside the long-standing masters in poetry. Their words are deep and rich and if you scratch the surface, there is so much more to find beneath. Since I first heard them, it was their words that hooked me. The music, undoubtedly, is appealing and pleasant ... and I have an appreciation for music -- in fact, it has always been a passion for me. But words are the meat. That is where substance can be found. And find it I do and have with The Avett Brothers words of wisdom. And more than that, they straddle the finest line of all ... theirs is more than music, more than words -- this is a true ministry and all those who have caught it get that. When the words and the music and the men behind it all line up ... that is undeniable integrity and they are gold in a world filled with pyrite. Even that observation is one that leads to others, though, isn't it ? This goes so much deeper and truer than many might think. Scott and Seth are both minstrels, bards, lay ministers, Renaissance men ... You are so right on. It is definitely a long list and it is worth examining closely. And it is like they stole so many pages out of the book of my heart and wrote it all down better than I ever could ! (Sanguine is especially this way for me, too. And add to your list Salvation Song ? LOL ... the list goes on and on and on, doesn't it ? Like a string of pearls, each is precious and unique. I find gems in all of the songs I hear by them ... ) I have said since I first heard them that ... "... theirs is a common-man ministry and when they open their mouths, heaven falls out ..." Namaste, Adam ! Avett On, Say Love, And It Spread, all that ! :)

Hurt so bad You don't come around here anymore Worse than that Nothing's really helping I've been thinking 'bout drinking again It's alright If you finally stop caring Just don't go and tell someone that does Cause even though I know there's hope in Every morning song I have to find that melody alone Her name became The flame unto the fire A magpie on the wire warned of those Dead until the high Shamelessly alive until the low It's alright If you finally stop caring Just don't go and tell someone that does Cause even though I know there's hope in Every morning song I have to find that melody alone But we can go ahead If no one notices What's the point of it? I have to ask How you learn to see The hope eternally When you're soon to leave Oh, leave at last Hurt so bad More than I expected that it would Worse than that It seems to be lasting just a little Longer than it should It's alright If you finally stop caring Just don't go and tell someone that does Cause even though I know there's hope in Every morning song I have to find that melody alone I have to find that melody alone I have to find that melody alone I have to find that melody alone

C Williams I too love that particular ACL show. I've had it saved on the DVR for a few years now and I turn it on at least once a month. Even if just for background music while getting ready for the day; AND for any visitors and friends that have yet to be introduced to them. The lyrical honesty, and gift of their natural harmonies highlight the heart put into each song they share with the world. They are tapped in on a level many folks can relate to. When you're feeling joyful, they'll put a pep in your step; in times of heartbreak and despair, I find the hope and comfort they bring lifts me up to a place of peace and harmony from deep inside. Thanks for the musical inspiration for today's playlist(:

I heard this song on Bailey & Southside Rock 100.5, and was immediately drawn to it. The song lyrics and tempo are unique. It sounds as if it is two songs merged together. I do not really understand the message, but something about it keeps me playing it. Thanks Glorious Sons for a really great song.

I saw these guys in Boca Raton a couple of years ago... They are AWESOME live and I had a lot of fun at their concert... They actually CAN sing, unlike a lot of new artists with the autotune... As a South American immigrant I approve and raise my glass to the Avett Brothers...
