The Avengers Season Six A Intro (Shooting Gallery Motif) Restored Original Audio

Up to now the only episode where this intro has survived, be it on DVD or Blu-ray, is "Split". Originally the first seven Tara King Episodes, produced by John Bryce had this title sequence - and its corresponding end credits version, which can, as of today, only be seen on the last Emma Peel entry "The Forget-Me-Knot". When Brian Clemens and Albert Fennell returned, they commisioned a new Intro. For unknown reasons said episode "Split" still has the first intro sequence, but with the wrong audio track. The track thats been used comes from the Clemens/Fennell "Field/Armours" intro - in the original audio however a gunfire-sound should be heard at the end, at the point at which Steed quickly moves his bowler away from him, and it is left with a hole in it. This has been restored here..

My understanding is that John Bryce only filmed the first two episodes & part of a third before Brian Clemens & Albert Fennell were brought back. All Bryce material features his version of Tara, as a blonde. Anything with Tara in her brunette wigs was from Clemens & Fennell, although you are correct that they made up the initial block of Tara King episodes that used the shooting gallery titles. Also, Clemens has stated that he personally supervised those credits (if I find the exact book & quote, I'll add it here sometime). But your main point, that for some reason home video versions have inaccurate credits and/or soundtracks is true. The very last time I saw the correct title sequence (with gunshot intact) was for the A&E cable tv broadcasts in the early 1990s in America.

There's an alternate 'honky-tonk piano' version of the end theme in one of the Tara King episodes.

Yep, thats the episode "Homicide And Old Lace", where they tried to recycle material from one of John Bryces fucked up episodes... Bryce was in charge of the first six or seven episodes, before they called Fennell and Clemens back...
