The Avengers Opening and Closing Theme (Series 5) 1965 - 1968 HD

Ойын-сауық

This is just the color theme for the Diana Rigg Seasons, and a tribute to her with Music created by Laurie Johnson. The original series was shot in 4x3, we have enhanced it for 16x9.
The Avengers is a British espionage television programme created in 1961. It initially focused on Dr. David Keel (Ian Hendry), aided by John Steed (Patrick Macnee). Hendry left after the first series; Steed then became the main character, partnered with a succession of assistants. His most famous assistants were intelligent, stylish and assertive women: Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman), Emma Peel (Diana Rigg), and Tara King (Linda Thorson). The series ran from 1961 until 1969, screening as one-hour episodes for its entire run. The pilot episode, "Hot Snow", aired on 7 January 1961. The final episode, "Bizarre", aired on 21 April 1969 in the United States, and on 21 May 1969 in the United Kingdom.
The Avengers was produced by ABC Television, a contractor within the ITV network. After a merger with Rediffusion London in July 1968, ABC Television became Thames Television, which continued production of the series, though it was still broadcast under the ABC name. By 1969, The Avengers was shown in more than 90 countries. ITV produced a sequel series, The New Avengers (1976-1977), with Patrick Macnee returning as John Steed, and two new partners. In 2004 and 2007, The Avengers was ranked No. 17 and No. 20 on TV Guide's Top Cult Shows Ever.

The Avengers theme, composed by Laurie Johnson has always been in my mind and heart. It was a quirky show. But that was part of it’s charm, in my humble opinion. This show had many elements. Mystery, suspense, excitement, humor and horror. And it was all done in style. This wasn’t James Bond and Miss Moneypenny, it was John Steed, Cathy Gale, Emma Peel and Tara King. Johnson’s theme is his best. Joel McNeeley’s rendition is pretty good and powerful. But I wished it was longer like in the scene from the ‘98 film adaptation where Steed is taking a leisurely walk through the village and is attacked in all fronts, only for the audience to learn that it was all a reactions test.

I used to love watching the Avengers when I was a kid. Even more so when it went to colour. I remember my mum didn't really care for it much, but I got to watch it. I think it used to be on on Friday nights then. The Diana Rigg era was the best one for me, I just couldn't take to later series. Plus the theme on this is one of the best ever TV themes ... just magic.

@@msquaretheoriginal... The first automobile I bought just after graduating from high school was a Datsun 1600 Roadster. It was the predecessor to the later popular Datsun 240Z. I found it one night in the classified ads of the newspapers, advertised for $1,495. This was in March of 1973. I couldn't believe when I got up to the car lot just less than a half a mile from our home it's my father drove me up. Merit sat in the lot in this young blonde woman was trading it in for a new Mercury Capri. I couldn't believe that she was buying this new ugly yellow Capri, and giving up this Datsun 1600 Sports Roadster, that only had 29,000 original miles on it. Imagine gasoline then was only 29 cents a gallon for regular octane, or about 34 cents a gallon for premium. I drove that car for almost 12 years and then we had a child so my wife said I had to give it up and buy a family car. I decided to buy a new Mazda 626 LX, which I found later, was very much modeled after the Mercedes-Benz, but the Mazda had front wheel drive... Today I actually drive a Mercedes-Benz E320 wagon, that I bought a little over a decade ago, with 102,000 miles on it, it was still like new, that I purchased for $9,000 cash. I'm still driving it today with 367,000 miles on it now.[it's not a diesel, It's a 3.2 liter V-6 gasoline engine with 221 horsepower. This era of Mercedes 1999~2003, are absolutely amazing, as they just go forever with little or no maintenance...

They had terrific storylines, also. WTF happened to all that? From QUALITY to mindless drivel, in a fairly short time span. Does anyone recall, a particular year, where there may have been a rug pulled out from under the television production industry? It looks like, initially, the dark dweeb force did NOT own the space, it was BENEVOLENT it does seem. So, mind control darkness, got LAUNCHED when? 1976 July 11 Mum dies suddenly. ● Germaine DARK MOTHER FLUCKER OF OZ grabs hold of society and commences SMASH FAMILY SYSTEMS, DESTROY MASCULINITY, LATCH KEY KIDS , MOTHERS DERIDED FOR THEIR SPIRITUAL AND PHYSICAL NURTURING OF PARTNERS AND CHILDREN AND HOME TURF, you are A FAILURE now, if you don't WORK OUTSIDE OF HOME, leaving children exposed and defenceless to dark dweeb paedophile. I think I was about 10 or 11 years old when I first saw this, here in my hometown of Portland Oregon. I was building Crystal radios when neighbors gave me an antique shortwave Zenith Transoceanic multi-band radio. I accidentally discovered the BBC and that it was more sophisticated in its journalism than American News at that time. Then as our parents eventually thought that there was something wrong with me as losing all interest in American television, our father came to my bedroom door one evening, he told me to come out and see this new show from England, as he said I would really like it. I was amazed when I first saw Diana Rigg playing Emma Peel, as she reminded me of a stylized version of our own mother. The opening sequence and the music suddenly reminded me that life was still beautiful, even for a kid discovering this sophisticated adult content programming. We had already discovered the Beatles from England not quite a year earlier. Still to this day when I play this theme music opening the show, my mind harkens back to a simpler time in the world that was comforting, if only one night of the week to go out to the front living room and watch the Avengers, as I gave up on all other American television programming, and just enjoyed going out in the yard as an amateur astronomer with my first telescope that I bought at age 13. On the remaining weeknights, I would just listen to the BBC on the shortwave radio.

@@kbc163, Thanks for commenting. I had to come back and edit my comment above, a little, as I found many typos. I would like to hear more of what a child thought of the new world then. [You are technically young enough to be our child. Our daughter was born in September 1980.] By 1988 when I was 33, I designed and helped to build our own new home, for $54,000, for my wife and daughter and I. A modern Frank Lloyd Wright appearing ranch home in the Columbia River Gorge, in a suburb East of Portland Oregon. The home just sold again, to about the fourth owners now, for about a half million. Before I lost it in foreclosure in 2008, after twenty years of home ownership, I was being hired to teach in a local university as an adjunct professor of astronomy. Then for the next twenty years, I was invited by movie producers to act, in occasional work, as a background extra actor on various famous Hollywood movie and TV acting sets. But I still do not watch TV today. I spend thousands of hours providing Public Service Sidewalk Astronomy for the public and schools. My astronomy technical art is featured as awarded and published in NASA websites, and other venues. I held the record for calling into National Public Radio's Talk of the Nation, live discussion programs from Washington DC. [I actually spoke over a dozen and a half times during the last seven years in was broadcast live to local NPR affiliates to the host Neal Conan, and his guests.] It's what got me the acting jobs. The program ended in June 2013. Others thought that I had a radio voice. But instead of getting voiceover work, they sent me to movie sets to act.

A cette époque, il y avait de remarquables compositeurs en Angleterre. La musique du "prisonnier" et de "destination danger" était aussi du même niveau.

I LOVED this show (and most all the detective and spy shows of the 60's and 70's)! Two of my nephews (who are close to me in age), a couple of neighbor kids, and I even made up a pretend "crime-fighting spy" club called "The Avengers"! Lol! And the crush I had on Diana Rigg could have sunk Great Britain!

About 1968 a lady stopped my mom and asked, “are you Tara?” She had been traveling, and thought the woman said “terror”. My mom said, “well, have been traveling and I know my hair is a mess….” The stranger said, “No, Tera… Tera King. From the Avengers.”

Not me! I watched to see her Lotus. That was before I discovered “Lotus” is an an acronym: L ots O f T rouble U sually S erious Still, I just loved to see than small British sports car that was years ahead of the Triumphs, MG’s and Morgans. Very expensive. By 1968 the Elan was over $8,000.

I'm confused; according the the current dolts in Hollywood there were no strong, confident, assertive woman portrayed on screen before they came along to "fix" it. The difference between then and now is Mrs. Peel didn't have to denigrate and belittle Steed in order to be strong and confident, they were a team. Kathleen Kennedy...are you listening? This was one of the best TV shows of all time. Mrs. Peel was my first TV crush when I was a kid, which is maybe why I've always gravitated toward strong confident women, and married one!

Dame Diana rigg was not gorgeous but, her attire was out of this world. Patrick was such a dignified, inquisitive man of merriment. I enjoyed the quiet serene of the British landscapes y their odd ball encounters. I think the 1965 opening credits where Diana sported her black leather cat suit influenced me to wear only black as an adult. It was not exactly easy getting dressed thou as I got lost I a closet of all black. Y my apts were not shy of this color as well. At times having to feel my way thru left me feeling like Helen Keller.
