    This broke my heart! I think the entire world tuned in to see 'Mrs. Peel' for the last time. This cut to the quick! Linda Thorson (Tara King) was a highly talented amateur and a spirited performer in the action series, BUT - she just couldn't make us forget Mrs. Peel!!!

  • @williampaz2092

    @williampaz2092

    Жыл бұрын

    There was an article about Linda Thorson in a British Film Magazine decades ago. Naturally she was asked about stepping into Diana Riggs’ shoes. Linda said that she never tried, it would have been impossible. She tried her best to turn Tara King into a completely different woman. Still strong and independent, courageous and intelligent. But Linda knew that Tara King was never going to replace Mrs Peel.

  • @rolls-royceowner1108

    @rolls-royceowner1108

    Жыл бұрын

    @@williampaz2092 - I tried to give Linda a chance but 'Mrs. Peel' remained in the horizon. It was terrible! No more Emma Peel! I thought I'd never see "The Avengers" again. Thank God for the internet! A&E was the pioneer that placed the entire action series on VCR then DVD. I have the entire series on both. I remember back in the 1990s when all we had were those big bulky tapes! I didn't care because I got to see Steed and Mrs. Peel, Cathy Gale, and Tara King! Honor Blackman as Mrs. Cathy Gale was the first to wear the 'extremely-hot' leather cat suits! Honor Blackman said they were absolutely disgusting to have to wear especially when she had to perform martial arts! Diana Rigg hated them also. It was Alun Hughes (1940-2015) the designer who gave Diana Rigg the sporty cat suits tailored in cloth! Diana did most of her own stunts like Honor did. It was Ray Austin that taught Diana Rigg martial arts. Ray coordinated over 50-episodes of "The Avengers" I like Tara King. We just didn't give her a chance back then because we were truly pissed that we could no longer see Mrs. Emma Peel! I remember, Linda Thorson lost her hair because they taped "The Avengers" for a full year before we got to see the end result. They dyed and re-dyed Linda's hair many different colors, including blonde - then it fell out! This is why we didn't get to see Tara's real hair until later on in the series. Remember all of the different wigs she wore? She even sported a long 'fall' in one adventure. They tried to steer the audience away from Emma Peel, this is why Tara had so many different hair styles to those wigs! As you can see, I am a chatter-box when it comes to "The Avengers", The original version of "The Avengers" that is! And what's really odd - is the fact Linda Thorson is the only member of the original cast that is still alive! My heart broke when both Diana Rigg and Honor Blackman died the same year in 2020!!! I will never forget how long it took me to adjust to the fact they both were gone - and Steed too! Linda Thorson has some movies out there that are good. But...each time I see them, 'Tara King' comes to mind - ironically, she got typecast without knowing it - to a series where she got 'snubbed' when she was introduced! The entire world was prejudiced and refused to give 'Tara' a chance because....she just couldn't make us forget Mrs. Peel -

    Loved that they opened with Emme Peel opening and closed with Tara King closing credits(my favorite of all the closing credits). I heard that the lipstick application/gun reflection scene was originally written for Mrs Peel. And it worked perfectly for Tara King. And yet even this closing credit is an example of the production uncertainty & frustrating uneven tendencies. They filmed this awesome Gun opening/closing sequence for the first 8 US episodes & then changed it on all of them(Knight sequence)Then towards the end of the season, changed it again(playing card sequence). I liked them all but the Gun one was the best and they should have left it on those first 8 episodes but didn’t. That was frustrating. It could have showed the episodes evolving through the season but Noooooo 🧐. To this day I get mad when I watch “Game” (which is closely Tied with “The Winged Avenger” as probably my favorite Avengers Episode) and it doesn’t have have the original Gun credit opening. 😤. Okay, I must breathe....😑....must let it go.

    I do believe that the 6th season with Tara King was the 'last season' until 1976 when CBS in the Late Night Movie brought in 'New Avengers' with Gambit and Purdy with Steed and then 'Return of the Saint'.

    This part was heart breaking in a way but inevitable. She was married and her husband found..Steed shows it..but keeps that British stiff upper lip with Respect. This show was so well crafted, addictive, creative, and imaginative!

    Thanks for the explanation. I read that Diana Rigg left because she was unhappy with what she was being paid.

    No she got offered a part in James Bond and she wanted to leave The Avengers on a high, nothing to do with a pay dispute.

    Steed barely reacted when Cathy Gale left, but when Emma leaves, he's a bit melancholy for a few minutes, but when Tara arrives, he perks up a bit.
