I agree on the dynamics. I modified some corner horns although visually I would have to show you because they still looked stock. After a few years I put them for sale on ebay and got calls from Russia, Lithuania Netherlands, 4-5 US States etc. 8 months go by and a guy in the neighborhood saw the ad and they ended up a mile from my shop. The first high end speaker I ever heard was a Kef back in the 80's about that size and I stayed perennially impressed. Russell Shaw is giving Pure Audio Power some serious competition at a great price point (would fit between your 2k and the 6k I believe), great to have so many talented people/products to choose.

I'm sitting here listening to Christmas music on my new Klipsch R51M's while watching this video. I have very minimal space for speakers, and those Klipsch are about as big as I can do in my situation, but they are doing a great job. Why did I buy them? Because I heard that you were impressed by them! I'm not disappointed. A Klipsch 10" subwoofer is on it's way from Santa.... Anyway, my dream speakers are a pair (or maybe five!) Klipsch Heresy III's, if I ever have the space and money for such things. I'm surprised that the Ohm's didn't make the nice list at the end of the year, after all the love you showed them. Oh well. I really like their concept! And I would love to find a way to audition them someday, even if I might have to buy a pair myself....

A long time ago, while the earth's crust was still cooling, Altec Lansing built loudspeakers for movie theaters. Big, horn loaded speakers that brought those film scores to life with fantastic sound. Steve and his wife, in their former careers, may have had the pleasure of hearing systems such as those before they were replaced by "newer, better" systems. So, large horns are a sound many of us older folks heard and enjoyed on a regular basis, never realizing the big boxes behind the scrim were responsible for the goosebumps.

I have this particular model and am stunned by the sounds emanating from such small boxes! Somehow they have NO tuned ports, passive radiators or DSP, yet are able to play all the way down past 35HZ! A tiny analog, closed box design! Anyways, would love to hear what yu hear from these stunning units.. Other than that, keep up the great work Steve!! 🎵🔊

Try those new 400 S speakers that everyone is raving on about. They have a passive radiator and it seems that it will "mimic" a much larger speaker. Why do I say this. I compared my 6" vented speakers with vented 10" speakers and they just didn't compare (both speakers are the same brand drivers, only different size). The 10" was way BIGGER and the kick drum was so sharp compared to the 6" speakers. Way more fun to listen to. But then I set myself a challenge to make my 6" speakers sound more like the 10" speakers. They were both bass vented so I decided to convert my 6" speakers to passive radiator and yes they do sound way more like the larger 10" speakers with the same sort of kick drum "slap". And the 6" bass is BIG, way bigger than when they were vented. So I decided to change my 10" bass speakers into passive radiator speakers and they are way better too, even BIGGER. But the 6" ones sound way BIG just by themselves and I don't need the bass speakers, all cos of the passive radiator concept. I would only add the 10" bass speakers for a full on bass effect. They are just woofer bass speakers but the definitely sound like subs. The drivers are JAYCAR 6.5" woofers and JAYCAR 10" woofers. The 10" are like $50 each and the 6" are like $30 each. No joke it's the "best bass in the world" those drivers KICK with the passive radiator. The crossover for both bass speaker sections... just one 5.6 mh inductor on each woofer (and resisted a little bit to match bass level with the med). Those drivers in a passive radiator box with 5.6 mh KICK like crazy. I might try the Dayton woofers, good CHEAP stuff. And this is the reason why you should try those 400 S speakers with the passive radiator. You get that BIG SOUND with smaller speakers (like the passive radiator bluetooth speakers do). But scaled up to full size speakers, imagine how incredible they would sound with the passive radiators (like those 400 S speakers supposedly sound). And mine do.

  • @VoxyGon

The Klipsch look like a very vintage design. I've never heard them but am really curious. Its interesting how difficult it can be to describe the differences between speakers sometimes. Most people can probably imagine what 'bright' or 'boomy' would be, but scale is one of the ones you have to experience to really appreciate I think. I only say this because the description you gave is about the best you can give, but still doesn't really convey the difference between listening to a small bookshelf speaker and a large one like those Cornwalls. I never really appreciated it until recently myself. I have a pair of bog standard big box JBL speakers as a part of my home theater. And they sound OK, and they get pretty loud. But, my dad has a pair of Altec speakers (looks like the Model 19 but slightly different). They are big cabinets, basically furniture, and the way they fill a room is hard to describe. I never really appreciated it until visiting recently and he was playing some music on them. They *really* fill a room, and you need a large room to really appreciate them. When I say 'fill a room' i'm not talking about how loud they get, either. They're just very....there. My JBLs sound nice, but they'd disappear in a space those Altecs would shine in. I really want to listen to some Cornwalls now.

I am a big fan of the Klipsch and am wondering, since you mentioned the Cornwall 1's, 2's etc. if there was any interest in reviewing updated older model classic speakers. I know JBL has some great older models, of course the Klipsch has many to choose from. I would be very interested in your opinion on the sound of a Cornwall 1 that has been updated with new crossovers and drivers compared to the $6K IV's you loved so much. Anyway, thanks for what you do.

Love the contrasts between these three very different speakers. I'd love to have LRSs to go with my Forte IIs (powered with a Schiit Aegir). The price of the LRSs is great but I'd have to get more amps to drive them (a Vidar, as SG suggests?). Might be worth it!

You are in good company. Lithuania also holds the Grateful Dead in high esteem. You will likely remember the story about the Grateful Dead providing the uniforms for the Lithuanian men's basketball team during the Olympics once. Like others, I purchased the 600's, Forte III's on your recommendation-though I auditioned the Forte III's before purchase. Cornwall IV's are next, since I have deeply regretted selling by Cornwall II's to please a "now former" spouse.

@@kohnfutner9637 lol. I just had my gf leave me. Lol. Before we moved in together I continually reminded her that audio and music came years before her and will remain a huge part of my daily life and wont budge. Wont stop using my gear like exs have made me do in the past. I was serious. Shes gone now. Good fukkin riddance. And guess what, life is better! Nobody should tell anybody how to be happy and nobody should interfere with it. Im 44 and since getying back into the passion, Ive read zillions of stories about spouses hating this or not allowing that. What kind of shit is that? Would these husbands be able to tell her not to persue her happiness? Doubtful. The next date I go on...when it gets to talking about the past, this will be the 1st thing i say. " i was in a relationship with a lady whome I let know daily about my musical passions. I talked about it constantly, I told her if ever somebody made me feel like my stuff was ahoildnt be in a designated qualifying listening space again, then it would likley be the deal breaker. And she tested that theory and lost. I wouldnt cave and even let her know its a form of legit therapy for me and that its not a hobby or past time. So she lives in a camper with her ex methy bf now. Her choice. I live in the bottom half of a house with excellent acoustics and the whole livingroom is my bedroom/listening room. Its amazing. A far better situation. Im not the dick i sound like. I actually acquiesced to 98% of her commands...(and boy were they) she made all the decisions. But 1...and that aparently was 1 too many for her and so she gets to boss a tweaker around in thier cute little trailer in Georgia😂. Not telling married guys to suddenly be asses amd try to change 20 years around and take over the house with thier crap...but im saying if you develop or find a passion and your spouse doesnt like it and refuses it completley...shes not interested in your wellbeing....shes interested in hers. Buy her a trailer. Lol

Hi Steve, enjoying your reviews from Tasmania (that island to the south of Australia). Your honesty and passion for audio are what got me to subscribe. I wish we could purchase the Klipsch Cornwall IVs at a decent price here - they currently retail for USD $10,766 in Australia! Anyway, hoping you have a Merry Christmas.

To bad you don’t review the focal Aria 948 and tell us what you think or the sound and clarity and details wow my god !!! I have the Cornwall IV in black at home and was curious to see if that speaker would blow the sound quality and finer details then the focal Aria 948. Didn’t really get a chance to do an A.B. comparison but I have heard those speakers as well inside a demo shop fantastic was blown away so I’m thinking about maybe selling the Cornwall for those speakers or unless it’s not as good and upgrading to more details I don’t know what to do I would like to see what speaker has the most details clarity biggest soundstage I want to hear everything in my music that’s what I look for. But details! :)

I love Maggie's but they will be no good for movies, I think Klipsch are too bright for my music. I'm actually considering Ohm. Can you help and I think a lot of us would find value in your ideas. I plan on using a high end integrated with bypass to run the 2 channel and an AVR receiver when I do movies. Thanks!!
