For the try-hard that keeps coming here bleating that it's "not as good as the Oils" in an effort it seems to make us all recognise him as some sort of authority on music - The Oils were influenced by the Atlantics in the first place to write the friggin song and the Atlantics version regularly performed live is done with both the blessing and admiration of Midnight Oil.

Love this - it's like the music has come full circle and then some. The band that influenced another to write a song then interprets that song with the influence that caused the song's existence. Truly poetic.

Peter Garrett has referred to this Midnight Oil song as being a cross between Slim Dusty and The Atlantics so it is a natural for the Atlantics to cover it. Moginie and Rotsey were obviously influenced by The Atlantics and surf rock is one of the influences that can be heard to varying degrees on every one of Midnight Oil's albums, some more than others. In response to yfelwulf I would just say that only a person who has not listened to much Midnight Oil would think their music was ordinary. They reinvented their sound with nearly every album and did quite a few experimental things sonically that no one had done before. Their music is very quirky and pretty void of rock music's cliches. Probably the only albums that could be described as coming anywhere near ordinary sounding would be the self-titled debut, Breathe, and Capricornia. Also their political statements were not always "politically correct". They merely wrote about what was on their minds. BTW, three members of Midnight Oil play together in a surf instrumental group called The Break whose music is way more ordinary, cliche, and derivitive than anything Midnight Oil ever did but is still far more adventurous than the average surf rock band.
