The Assault on Faith, Family, & Science | Dr. Phil | EP 430

Jordan Peterson sits down with clinical psychologist, author, and media mogul Dr. Phil McGraw. They discuss his new book, “We’ve Got Issues,” and from this delve into the three pillars of western society that are now under assault, as well as the 10 working principles he prescribes to defend them. They also discuss how to live with intention, the importance of personal identity removed from outward labels, the difference between questioning and deconstructing, how the establishment failed our children during the pandemic, and the obvious outbreak of social contagions plaguing the world today.
Phillip McGraw, PH.D. is the author of 10 New York Times bestsellers. For 21 seasons he hosted the award-winning talk show “Dr. Phil,” one of the most successful daytime programs in television history. His new book, “We’ve Got Issues - How You Can Stand Strong For America’s Soul and Sanity,” is available now. This April, he hosts “Dr. Phil Primetime,” on his own cable network, Merit Street Media, providing essential news and entertainment. McGraw resides in Dallas, Texas with his wife, Robin. They have two adult sons and four grandchildren.

I appreciate this conversation immensely. As a Canadian trained Registered Nurse who has lived in Australia for 17 years, the registering board AHPRA, Imposed gag orders on health professionals saying anything that veered from the scripted narrative. I was not one who complied. I continued to speak out on informed consent, patient autonomy & advocacy, confidentiality of peoples medical history, and actual health promotion. I was not going to comply with mandated jabs and resigned from my Clinical Nurse Specialist role in addictions. This led to nearly 3 years unemployed, selling my home, living in a van and now moving back to Alberta in hopes of some employment (not in nursing). I've taken no government handouts and live on my savings. This is impacting retirement drastically. I have no regrets having honoured my values as a Registered Nurse and as a person in general. May the collective consciousness rise 💫

He’s a genius, Jordan Peterson that’s. I always assumed without deductive reasoning that he was in it for the ratings. JP is the 100% real McCoy because he isn’t afraid to express himself to the world. He’s the most intelligent man or psychologist I’ve personally ever heard of that’s currently being criticized for what, telling women the truth and they don’t want to ta have to face themselves in that mirror because some people hate who they believe they’re and I’ve seen it a lot in addiction treatment because the drugs play a huge roll in the way you interact with the world. So getting off my medication is a goal I’m proud of saying that I am going on 10 years of being off opiates abs it was mg DOC.

I was thinking the same thing. I've never really watched that much of Dr. Phil, but from what I've seen from him it's pretty much all from his TV-show where his role seems to be more or less only to stay unbiased and keep the conversations going. Like in the movie (What is a woman - 2022) there's a scene from Dr. Phil's show where Matt Walsh in vain tries to have three trans-activists explain what a woman is. Dr. Phil's role as unbiased and unable to take a stand on either side gave me the completely wrong impression about him.

    1. *Cognitive Flexibility:* Believing in something that is not true can limit cognitive flexibility, making it difficult to consider alternative perspectives or entertain contradictory evidence. This rigidity in thinking can impair problem-solving abilities and decision-making processes. 2. *Memory Encoding and Recall:* The brain's memory processes may be influenced by strongly held beliefs, leading to selective encoding and recall of information that aligns with those beliefs while disregarding or distorting contradictory information. This can contribute to memory biases and inaccuracies. 3. *Emotional Regulation:* False beliefs can impact emotional regulation by reinforcing cognitive distortions and biases that influence how individuals perceive and respond to emotionally charged situations. This can contribute to heightened anxiety, stress, or other negative emotional states. 4. *Social Interactions:* Beliefs that are not grounded in reality can affect social interactions by shaping how individuals communicate and relate to others. Confirmation bias and selective attention may lead individuals to seek out like-minded individuals and dismiss or avoid those who hold different beliefs, potentially leading to social isolation or conflict. 5. *Neuroplasticity:* Prolonged adherence to false beliefs can influence brain plasticity, the brain's ability to reorganize and adapt to new information and experiences. Over time, this may reinforce neural pathways associated with the false belief while weakening connections that support critical thinking and skepticism.

I never knew this version of Dr Phil, and I am astonished. I had always had a none-too-high opinion of of him, largely because I don't hold television personalities in high esteem. In his defense, he has never been allowed in his television appearances to speak off-script, he was always shown as more of a product than a thinking person. He's a far brighter man than I gave him credit for, and I can't say how happy I am to be enlightened.

And you're very beautiful, and most single mothers under 30 today are very beautiful. My question is, single mothers, do they make a conscious decision? Do you just want someone's genes and that's it? Or is it mostly the case that they get played? I know I'm being rude and up front here but I'm just a seeker of the truth. Thanks for understanding. I refuse to buy into the delusions of today. I'm wondering how long it will be before someone woke starts insisting everyone start grunting like evolution says the cave people did. That's another thing. . . I refer to people I don't know as people or human beings now. I only do that, because I'm just tired of dealing with the, too, many that feel a need to give me a lecture for simply not knowing just by looking at them.

I find two things mind blowing about this conversation. First is how much of this is told already in African folklore in teaching children growing up. Through storytelling and folksong, the same wisdom is passed from grandfather to grandson. Second, how large swathes of African society is rapidly abandoning the old ways in the name of modernised thinking thinking to conform with the very thinking this conversation is seeing as hopelessly lost. Incredible!

Doctor Phil is really concentrating on these problems without giving hope for fixing. Jordan Peterson comes with wisdom that brings solutions. My energy really shifts listening to Dr Phil. I feel my fear but my faith allows me to speak my truth. This whole fear based idea is exactly where the world is going wrong. Which is the very reason society is failing our upcoming children of the world which is so important. If we talk about how to start taking control we automatically feel hope.

Dr Phil THINKS that he has been put on Earth to help people? If that is the case then why does he make money from poverty stricken families. He is EGO-CENTRIC and uses his money to pay for his equally self obsessed wife and her plastic surgery. He is NOT HUMBLE

I'm not sure if you can apply an algorithm to cure todays problems though , as is the way Jordan's' method would be done, We have a massive drug problem in the equation that they have not mentioned. People do not have morals like they used to and ESPECIALLY not the Americans who have (in my opinion) an ANTI CULTURE. Their society is crass and greedy, The "family unit" is not always better with a father and sometimes works out better with a grandad or friend as a father figure rather than keeping useless fathers family units just because they THINK THEY SHOULD.

Two hours with one of the biggest people to spread this message, and Peterson chooses to use it by talking his ear off and going to rabbit holes. I would recommend having a listen to the Diary of a CEO podcast, it is my new favorite. Why? Because he is so succinct with his questions. The problem I find with Peterson and Bilyeu (and for the record, I love them both dearly - I have learned a great deal from them) is that they tend to just go on and on and on, down rabbit holes. Steven still gives background for his questions, but does it so succinctly that it is a breath of fresh air.

Dr. Phil is so good at communicating and guiding the common folk. Dr. Peterson is our guide to understanding the deepest aspect of existence. Both great communicators but on different levels. I read Dr. Phil's book, its great, easy to comprehend for most people the first time, very helpful. When I read Maps of Meaning, I had to undergo significant education and mental training just to begin understanding. After 10 years and 7 full read through I am still learning from that 1 book. I love the work Dr. Peterson has done/is doing, but I honestly feel we need more Dr. Phil's to fight the culture war.

I agree with you. Jordan leaves me going "Hey what?" a lot of the time and I don't think I'm thick :) He seems to want (need) to use language that requires you to have a dictionary next to you. Very smart guy for sure but his way of communicating can be very off putting for those who don't have a dictionary :). But Dr Phil explains ideas in everyday language with concepts that are easily understood. So, he is able to connect with those who just want to hear the simplified version and be able to apply the concepts and ideas to life. without one needing to have a university degree. An analogy is those in the field of 'science' using codes and 'big' words to dazzle the peasants and convince the peasants that they are the 'one source of truth'. Just my opinion :)

I committed myself to watching this over my breaks and lunch hour, as I usually do with nearly all of Dr. Peterson's videos. I was worried about two things, first, I was hoping that what I have seen from Dr. Phil recently wasn't fake. It is one thing to say you're going to take a stand and a completely different thing to actually take that stand. He, Dr. Phil, seems like he is very sincere in his position. The second thing I was worried about was whether or not this was going to be a tug-of-war of intellect where Dr. Phil would challenge everything the Dr. Peterson offered in discussion to make sure that he appeared to be the most intelligent of the two during these two hours. This was a very complimentary exchange of ideas and positions and, there was much more common ground between these two than I thought there might be. Fantastic discussion from both!

I admittedly fell asleep half way through this, but gimme a break. I worked 10 hours today and just finished dinner. Lol But woke up and finished and glad I did. So much of this seems like the most rational way to live a better life and be a better person. Really a lot of insight help me approach being a better father and being a better man. Almost all of it seems common sense but it's common sense that you never hear anymore. Everyone needs to pay attention to these men and practice what you learn daily and maybe this cultural degradation and implosion can be turned around and benefit everybody. "Questions you can't answer are better than answers you can't question." I really like that quote.
