When Todd was on, he was *ON*. Back in the 90's I couldnt imagine anything better. But I was a kid and I grew up. He's still a great artist... He's had some rough moments though.

Todd is the Lorne Micheals of comics - if you're in the game, you have a Todd impression, bud.

Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, with the McFarlane Studios animation, is pretty intense. The original book was about a group of misfit Catholic school kids who were fans of EC-style comics. The movie made them fans of more contemporary comics ( I remember one of the kids entranced by a Nestor Redondo Swamp Thing). Oppressed and bullied, they construct a fantasy world where they design their own superheroes (some are the lame sort of characters a young fan might come up with) and their made-up story/fantasy appears as animated sequences by Todd and friends. There are counterparts to their real-world antagonists that appear as super-villains, such as the nun portrayed by Jody Foster. The segment where the weirdest of them points out the work of William Blake as being a comics pioneer really spoke to me when I saw it. It gets really dark, but is definitely a worthwhile film, in my view.

Cool vid once again, but Michael Jai White definitely knows how to throw a punch! Love seeing a martial artist who's also a charismatic actor. Highly recommend "Blood & Bone" (Kimbo Slice has a brief appearance in it), "Undisputed 2" and of course "Black Dynamite" is a good time

Skating on thin ice was a free anti-drug comic in the 90s in Canada. I brought 50 home with me from school. Since gotten rid of, or I’d send you guys one.

Hi Guys I’ve just caught up with this video. I have ordered a copy apart from being a big Todd fan but to show my daughter (17) the art of being persistent and how if you keep working hard submitting your work building your portfolio things will happen .Love the page on the rejection letters and the volume of work Todd posted out . Awesome how you discussed each page and added more content to the story. Keep up the great work

Wanda quit/was fired as editor by McFarlane (depends who you ask) because of the way Kincaid's death was shown in the book. It is mentioned in McFarlane's 'Devil You Know' documentary (up on KZread)

The animated section is for the Spawn The Animation which was a secondary series to follow on from the HBO show. Kinda like how Batman The Animated Series was followed by The New Batman Adventures. Todd released a teaser for it way back at comic con in 2005 and has just sat on it even since. Guess he just wants the marks (me included) to know he's got more content for us to lap up when his toy sales start slipping. Here's a link for it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hZxhqq6uhMTLXdY.html

ASM issue #306, I always wondered how the the editors missed the fact that the guy on the cover, standing behind the fountain was missing his foot. I guess it comes down to one of the dynamics of the business and that Cartoonist Kayfabe has shone a lot of light on, and that’s the fast pace of the industry and deadlines, deadlines, deadlines.

Great review. I have this book, my only question is why in the Toys section it doesn’t give his Metal Gear figures any showcase. He did 2 awesome waves for both of the MGS games for PlayStation. And they don’t even show 1 figure?

I bought a random copy of Spider-Man that Todd had done at my local comic shop and fell in love with the art. I went back and bought all of the back issues for $1.50 each. A few weeks later they were selling for $20. I thought I was the shit. Haha

56:15- that is some Stalin-level stuff - Hank Kanalz, lawyer-up, buddy! In all seriousness though: I've worked on nonfiction books, and this sort of thing is not okay by any editorial standard. Whilce's photo could have (easily) been inserted separately, with a small caption box explaining his absence in the group photo. Also, being a Cartoonist Kayfabe fan, I'm fairly certain that Hank designed the Image Comics logo - the iconic "I" - something still in use to this day on every single Image Comic cover. This is not an insignificant contribution by any measure, and it helped define the company as much as the artists in those early years. Todd should be as much of a champion of designer rights as he is with illustrator rights. They are artists too, and I assume that Todd was okay with this revisionist history presented in his book. As a designer, I'm not cool with it.

I've really had a laugh at the Spawn movie, after hearing people saying to go and get it that it is worth watching. The only thing worse than the movie was hearing Todd talking about his character. I wonder if he was doing ludes before doing that or too much Labatts.

Not only, is spawn in mk11, mcfarlin toys also is behind mk11 action figures. Some dc figures too, that must feel satisfying as f, having 1 of the "big two" scratching at ur door to produce their merch, cuz u simply outperform hasbro, mattel in all the other toy coorporations.

I was in my late teens and early 20s when the future Image creators hit the Marvel scene, and I was absolutely smitten. Rob Liefeld was mind-blowing. McFarlane the same. Not sure how long it took for me to figure out that I wasn't really enjoying ANY of their stuff once they had full creative control (Spider-Man #1 and that first McFarlane-written arc definitely was my "Phantom Menace" moment, as Ed alludes to in the video...). 30 years later, looking back, I honestly wonder what exactly I admired about it all.
