The Art of Letting Go (Taoism Documentary)

February, 2012, my wife, Gayoung, and I were moving back to Asia after two years in Australia. We had no plan. We just wanted to let go of our lives and return to Asia permanently. The Art of Letting Go is a full-length documentary that follows us for one year on an amazing journey of uncertainty and extraordinary wonder anyone can experience when control is relinquished. As Lao-tzu explains in the Tao Te Ching, "A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent upon arriving."

Having spent a couple of months in India all of 43 years ago, I can see from your excellent documentary that thankfully it has hardly changed. I now live happily and humbly in South East Asia, a part of the world where I think it is not so difficult to explore the art of letting go. Your film has sparked my interest in Taoism so many thanks.

My mother is from Tiruvannamalai. It's a lovely town whose way of life somehow subtly embraces the spiritual element. There's a constant influx of travelers, rich and poor, in pursuit of a bigger dimension. This lends the town a welcoming, adaptive, and dynamic outlook. So happy to see the place in your videol! Asia is way better than Australia. Europe even more so. I am curious about why so many social models have a dichotomy between pragmatism and spiritualism. Would not the best social models unite the two? I believe that if we really want empowered change, we must look beyond currencies that put prices on our heads. Any worthwhile currency must be based on the work of the people, and on regarding this as a true exchange of energy, that currency must be free to use: no tax, fees, costs. Add to this a ‘bank’ that pays for education and infrastructure, and we have a currency that values creating experiences to empower the most people in the most sustainable way possible. :) Search buxxb on Facebook, and BUXB on the P2P wiki to find out more.
