I kept expecting Eric to say “oh but black can block with the bishop…” and couldn’t believe that I saw it and he missed it. Definitely makes me feel better about my own frequent miscalculations.
I've accidentally stumbled upon your youtube channel and I have to say. No regrets. I just love how you explain every single move of the games you play and the calm atmosphere of it all. Wish you all the best in your chess career.

Eric is by far the best chess content creator. Whenever I'm in a bad mood or stressed out, I watch Rosen's videos and always feel better. It's my therapy.

his voice is like a theraphy to me, so peaceful!
*Opponent plays Stafford Gambit.* Eric: “You dare use my own spells against me, Potter?”
I love how elated Eric is when realizing he could possibly be caught in a stalemate trap. Fun chess is the best chess.
Can't express how much I'm enjoying and learning from this series. These are the kind of positions and openings that many of us encounter every day.
29:00 happy i saw that from a distance, Rook pinning the pawn, nice looking checkmate

Saw that too, I'm slowly getting better in tactics involving pins. Probably from watching Eric's games so often 😅
Rare to see someone surprise Eric in the Stafford! Not to mention you had a potential to get stalemated! Very very impressive play by your opponent
These 1200s are playing very well, I must say.. Every game in this episode, the opponents tried their best to survive.. 👍👍

1200 is the funnest rating level; I intentionally haven't been studying openings or trying to improve much aside from puzzles just because the games are more fun down here haha
i checked the first game with the engine and Qxg4 is actually the top move. Second best would be d4 to block the bishop, sacrificing that pawn and if black is not carefull and takes on d4 with the bishop instead of the queen, you can then go for that Qxg4 idea and actually win the queen in the end

I saw the Bishop block, but I was thinking it so defangs the attack and you'd be up materia anywayl that I would play it in a game even if the computer had found a better line. Practically it's the easiest win.

I checked it. No way I would have found that move. It's incredible how quickly he went from spotting the move, realizing it wasn't as winning as he had thought, then realizing despite this it was still a winning position.
29:04 Unless I'm missing something, Qe3# because the f pawn is pinned by the rook on h2

24:38 I think you overlooked Nxg5. I was wondering if that would work during the game, and afterwards did check and confirm it with SF. Looks scary with an open G file but SF says it's objectively equal.

Saw that also. Would have been interesting to see how the game would have developed since Eric would have been down a pawn.
Eric is so good that even when he "blunders" in the first game, Stockfish confirms it's still the best move in the position.
Don't think I would have seen the mate in 1 if you didn't mention it, but once you did it became evident. I'm completely addicted to these videos! Keep up the good work :D
That mate in on at 29:05 was amazing, when you said to look for it I saw the pin on the pawn and nearly jumped out of my seat!
I didn’t see the mate before you announced it, but when you prompted me to calculate it did notice the pinned pawn :). beautiful nifty mate. Love the speed run videos because of your calm, kind nature so much Eric, i look forward to these videos every day.
I feel so much better about myself. Even Eric Rosen can overlook opponent's moves when calculating.
No series has me more looking forward to a new video. If I don't hop on KZread for a while it's always the top on my feed. It's an instant click.
My favorite episode so far. Thanks, Eric!
I feel proud of myself for spotting the pin at 29:00.
Eric, these episodes are very valuable. By playing slower games comes out more explanation. And so even with lower rated opponents some tricky lines do pop up. I watch every episode of the speedrun. And also I try to play at least one rapid game a day not only to improve but also to have a chance to stumble into playing Eric 😀.
Now this is a speedrun! Thank you Eric!
No video Upload on KZread can get me as joyful as one of this series :3
Thanks!

Thanks so much!
I love the humility you display. Thank you for the countless pearls since episode 1.
So instructive watching you make new plans when your initial plan is prevented. I find being at this rating it’s really hard to find new plans when the position feels really equal and your opponent is solid. So hard to not take silly risks and throw the game
My favourite series on KZread right now. Keep up the good work!
Greetings from Bali too. Enjoy! Assuming you haven't already flown back.
these videos are amazing. I love how instructive they are, and I also learned a lot of new openings because of these speedruns. 10/10 ngl
4:03 "oops" *immediate ad break* I let out a chuckle on that one
Love this series so much, really like the longer videos too! Watching you play is so calming. Keep it up! :)
Dear Eric, I really love this series. Thank you so much!!!!
I wish I can explain the amount of joy that I get when I see the speed run notification, thank you Eric for the amazing content! so much love from Saudi
Love this series Eric, thanks for prioritising educational content
Seen the checkmate on Game 2 😊 Love these videos. Enjoyed all of them. Very instructive. Thank you Eric !
Wellcome to Indonesia, Eric!
29:15 Queen E3 was a beautiful move that for once I actually did spot.
Excellent advise about the stale-mate. Very important tool to have. There was one game in recent tournament Abasov vs Levonian. Abasov was winning but Aronian found a genious move which forced Abasov to play into stale-mate or risk losing the game. It was great to watch.
Nice commentary on the candidate moves. It's super helpful.
The first game was actually a really fine and instructive game. Black did really well in those position, and the position was really peculiar too. That was a very interesting game. Thank you Eric and GMScrizzy for the amazing game.
At 40:24 d3 actually works! If bishop takes then f takes e4, both White's knight and bishop are attacked by a pawn so you're winning back a piece and have a nice attack on the kingside (for instance if bishop takes d3, pawn takes d3 and then White can't really stop black from opening the kingside with bishop takes knight on f3 since it's pinned to the queen and attacked by the rook on f8)
@davidmcdonald8893
4 ай бұрын
I checked that too, not sure what made Eric discard it so quickly
love the speedrun!
I'm loving the videos and the thoughtful insights provided for each move. After this speed run, it would be good to see a new speed run, but where you blitz out moves and be very aggressive ❤
Doesn't knight takes g5 work after g5 in the second game? Both queens would be attacked, and it seems like white would be up material in the end
Nice games! And I'm very happy to have spotted the bishop retreat in game 1 and the mate in 1 in game 2
Probably should comment as I'm loving your speedrun. Gone back to the start and learned more than I expected. Thanks Eric
The last game was superb. Exactly the kind of attacker I aspire to be. Patient and decisive!
Now I feel very good for seeing Bishop blocks at the end of the line on Eric's queen sac
im always amazed how chess players like eric can remember random traps within every line
My favorite series by far
You have officially passed my ELO. I have learned so much and hope to continue to learn as this goes!
Added the video to the playlist " to watch while eating " ✅ Can"t wait tonight ! thanks Eric
It's Qe3 because the pawn is pinned! I totally missed that at first.
Love the series, enjoy Bali
Ironically playing "oh no my queen" and then realizing that it was actually OH NO, MY QUEEN XD Great content Eric!
Dude you are the theory master! I wish I had this knowledge of so many moves to prep
Excellent chess and commentary. And all from glorious Bali. Selamat tinggal di Indonesia. Semoga sukses disana!
I saw the mate on e3 😊 Love this series, keep it up
I'm officially a Bob Ross of Chess groupie! Just got my Oh no my queen T and Do you even rook lift in! And to top it off ya busted both in this episode! Winning!! \m/
Autobahn-rook 😁 Great video, all the best from Germany!
I absolutely love mates that include pinning. Im glad I spotted that
I was happy to see the mate in one after you mentioned thinking there was one!
Like Ben Finegold says: "Never resign!"
I did spot the checkmate beforehand. Another great video, Eric! Also, can you send some of that weather to us? Haha.
Not sure if you're still in Bali, but Canggu has a great chess bar called Knights Chess Bar! I was there in September and had a lot of fun!
i saw the blunder before it happened, very proud 😂
@4:00 I love when the masters miss moves, it makes me feel better about my own playing :)
Nice mate!
Yay actually saw the mate in 1, even before you mentioned it 😊
Great content. Potato Head in Seminyak is a great spot
The first game was on fire🔥
I like your moves, Eric!
I was able to spot the checkmate 😊 thank you for the challenge
We love you Eric!
Unbelievably you played the first line of engine through the Stafford gambit 😂👍 i checked it with stockfish 15 and it showed sac the queen in this line .. then i understand why you're the God of this gambit 😅
I spotted the mate in one! Also, stockfish says the queen sacrifice you played vs the Stafford was the best move.
9 Qxg4 as it turns out is the number one computer move. Fascinating sacrifice that lead to a huge advantage for white.
Nice episode as always. Can you please play the stonewall with white?
29:03 I do see it, it did take me a minute though. The pawn is pinned so Qe3 is checkmate! Very cool
You’re my inspiration Eric
14:30 While "air" is the literal translation I'd argue that "breathing space" is a more correct interpretation of "air" in that context. Also I'd say it makes a bit more sense to say "give luft" than "make luft" as in "make space to give the king air"
@briantetreault3223
4 ай бұрын
Is it generally the idea in the English idiom "breathing room"; i.e. some remove, time to recover, etc.?
Awesome episode! Can you maybe play one French Defense Game? Cheers!
Any guesses which episode will see Eric’s win streak end? Loved all 25 episodes so far!
In game 1, at the critical point of defending f2, how about sacking the pawn on d3 by moving it to d4 assuming opponent would then take with the bishop which would result in preventing him from moving the bishop back after taking his rook?
17:25 Queen takes is indeed the top engine move
looking sharp
Doin quick analysis w/Lichess, QxN in the first game is correct. Eventually, black lands in a situation where they pretty much have no moves, even if they block w/bishop. Youre gonna get the black bishop to c5 and there's too much pressure against the B on f8
“That was a slightly embarrassing oversight.” Welcome to every third move of my games, lol. It is kind of nice to see titled players make an occasional mistake - it proves you’re actually human, lol.
11:29 I saw a funny line!!! When Bxg4 and Qg8 forking the bishop and a2 pawn, there is Be6, Oh no my bishop!! If the Queen takes there's a fork of the black King and Queen with Nc5. Man I was begging Eric to play this but he didn't...
Time for popcorn🍿 and chess
Welcome back :)
i love when he shakes his mouse and it becomes big
Eric I live in Bali! Would love to meet over a beer or coffee. There’s a nice chess cafe here called knights chess bar. Let me know. Love this series btw. Keep it up❤
Bringing in Ben with the brain damage line sent me 😂
Hi Eric, in the 3rd game - I think just playing d3 on move 15 will win as well (instead of taking with the bishop when the tension was not yet released). Update: checked with Stockfish - it's the best move. Though it's not obvious, next move is not taking the bishop right away, but taking fxe4, so that there are two connected pawns, trapped bishop and pressure on the knight on f3. (Update: of course I meant d3, not b3!)
First game was so much fun. Made my evening. Edit: found the mate in 1!
29:03 Qe3#
So was queen takes g4 considered a mistake or a fine move in the stafford game? Thanks!
You didn't hear us, shouting from the future: 'He can block with the bishop!!'
