Holy shit. I just got out after 12 years. The reason i got out was the bullshit online courses and other redundant training and check the box training. My last unit i was in (the guard) my last drill i worked more on the fueling trailers and learned more about them then the last 5 years i was in it. We spent 90% of our time doing online training, or death by powerpoint classes.

My biggest question right now, as a former member of the Air Force. Who gets to decide what's redundant, and how long will that committee take to decide that, and how much will those civilians get paid for it

So, what will happen is "Training Efficiency Improved by X percent" will be the next hot promotion bullet. Replacing "New training implemented. " Then it'll get stupid and they'll shut down the range to train "more efficiently " with Lockheed Martin nerf guns.

I remember, back when I was in, I think it was the 13th or 14th sexual harassment powerpoint presentation that it finally got through to me that graping people isn't always the answer. I have never wanted to yeet myself more than when I was sitting through those stupid powerpoint presentations about suicide awareness. They made us all jarringly aware that self super yeet² was the only way to get out of those stupid meetings that covered no new information since the one we had a year ago, or less. I would love it if the military had less of that for everybody. At least stop giving people suicide awareness training with death by powerpoint!
Meanwhile here in the Chair Force, They added more online training to me today.
It never ends even if you're a civilian... every year I have take a series of online classes because "regulations and policy." Which have been exactly the same classes for the past 10 years.
I once had a job that told me to do online stuff on my lunch or at home hahaha I told them i couldn't do it at home and i clock out for lunch so, no. After about two weeks they reminded me then started reminding me once or twice a week i said its for work right? Yes it is. So im not doing it for free. After several, several months they had me do what i could in two hours a day for the next 6 weeks 😂. Now I know this wouldn't fly in the military but civilian world im not working for free
YOU ARE HYPED!
They are tryna get me to reenlist. I will not fall for the trap!
You helped make the changes.
They got told they needed to cut something unnecessary from the budget. Thank god for budget cuts.

As long as it’s the online online training and not the physical training, I agree
Listen to the joy in this man's voice. It is good.
Air Force did that YEARS ago... didn't stick for long. I'd bet $$ it'll be back in some other form or just the same old CBT.

Sounds good. Now go do your DTS training for the third time this year! : )

I had a .05 second desire to re-enlist after hearing this news.
Heees a tip for those still in. Enough people “forget to do it”, they make time for everyone to get it done
Looks like they’re listening to you Good!!

Oh my god. All it took for them to listen was for recruiting numbers to drop so low that he Colonel wont get his Legion of Merit.
In my unit lawyers teach ethics training. Nothing more counterintuitive than that
This is how you get people back into the force. Less bullshit more go time.
The budget cuts are getting lit 🤣
NGL I would have stayed in if this was available for me
Former E5 here; online training was seen as pedantic and useless. Once I finished my Masters in Education I found that it is COMPLETELY worthless
Now they need to get rid of the death by power point
Wait… the _new_ motto is Be all you can be? That’s great! I think it was the best motto the Army ever had. I was in for the tail end of “Be all you can be” and woodland pattern BDUs... and then… well you know. I like what’s going on over there now! Awesome.
This is honestly some of the craziest shit to come out of the last 5 years
Don't get too excited or you're going to get very disappointed. A good 15 years ago, the Air Force said the same thing. "Airmen spend too much time on CBTs. We are going to cut those back to just a few hours a year." I never saw the cut backs, but they sure did add a lot more.
I took pictures of the answers and printed them off. I got the training time off at the SAC. Played games then did the training jumping to the end. 100% on the tests xD
Now bring back Shark Attacks.
Yay, I’m basically eligible for E6 now because of this. 🕺
I remember once walking into the warrior zone’s computers and there was an E-6 watching his joes take online courses. The man found a Tuesday I think, to ensure his joes were getting online courses done.
Outstanding
Give someone an award
Our "new" motto😂😂
Oh suuuurrreee, now they do it after my retirement 😂
It’s a Friday, and I literally have to do information security I can’t make this shit up
No longer in but I'm so fucking happy for yall
I Thank God almost daily that I've been out of the Army since the '80's.
So they waited until they kicked me out to start doing this shit
Unfortunately they won't update the draconian system called UCMJ, it can be quite suggestive and biased before you can plead your case
I remember the last time this happened. The online training will bounce back.
And streamlining the process for when we go to war.
Good lord I remember doing months of this crap on my free time to try and get enough points to get promoted.
Need to have more officers and an easier path when casualties start coming in. 🕴🏻
2 days of good news in a row... Yeah we're going to war soon 😂
SMA is so based for this.
You don’t DO gambling… gambling does YOU!
They’ve said this before, but the truth is that you’ll still end up doing it all anyway.
Antiquated...did they have you taking online courses on WW2-era equipment?
It sucks to be those that just finished that online training.
Okay guess this my sign tl buy a lottery ticket 😆
Man we used to sit for drunk driver training at least 8-9 times a year. Most useless shit ever was power point and online training.
I know I'm on the outside looking in, so please bear with me: I work in the legal field and with a lot of other professionals like doctors, accountants and engineers. We all have to do development training to keep advancing our careers. Many of us do not have employers who cover this for us, either in time or in cost. It is seen as an "if you want to advance, you put in the work on your own time". I see at the top it says structured self development. Would that be the same thing as continuing legal education or continuing medical education classes? And is this requirement being jettisoned related to the lower of standards to join the military?
@GodlyNoghri

Yes it's the same and it's being removed because it's widely known in the education and training community to be almost entirely worthless.
He went from stoked to .... mild mannered. Wtf?!
This is only going to serve to make a further divide between the new soldiers and the guys that have already been in, because the guys that have already been in had to do all this stuff and the newly promoted people will not have had to have done this stuff, they're going to hear crap for it.
I hear the Air Force has a Computer Based Training program on how to do Computer Based Training.
Are you talking about the online portion of NCOES? Because that’s about the only decent online training they had. Almost all of the other courses were worthless and only existed to meet some safety requirement or other. The total amount of annual training required by AR350-1 used to be around 400 days(to be completed in 365 days).
Just in time after I've already finished it all...
be all that you can bear
As someone who just came from SLC I’ll say I honesty got more from DLC than I did from that course
So y’all don’t have to do SARC briefings every month. Awesome!
Congrats guys!

Maaaan where was all this in the GWOT days? Guess they were too worried about the new useless camo variant they were gonna churn out next (remembers being forced to buy ACUs )
HYPE! HYPE! HYPE!
imagine if food and shelter were free
Woooo!!!! Recall me!!!!
They will find a way to fuck it up
And it screws all of us who have already completed the training because it won't help with promotion anymore.
Lmao i wouldve still been in and promoted hopefully we still dont recall us on my two years left
Air Force did that. Then DHA created Relias required CBT's and my life got way worse.
👏 👏 👏 🫡
The Air Force said that about 10 years ago. They lied.
Well that's enough good news for the army till at least 2034
It's definitely a waste of time and asinine that it was ever used to gatekeep rank. Everyone had the answer sheets and nobody learned anything useful even if they weren't cheating.
YEARS OF ACADEMY TRAINING WAISTED!!!!! 😫
What type of training are you having to do nowadays? I was told when I got to my first duty station to basically forget what AIT taught you and well that is true. I learned more about radio repair out in the field than I did at AIT. I was a 31V/U they were changing things. I only went to one school for promotion and that was PLDC, E-4 to E-5 then we had Bnoc and Anco. Some non promotion education we got, when I got to Germany we had I think it was 1 week maybe 2 of German culture training, of course the numerous driver training classes, it was where I learned to drive a stick shift, back a deuce and a half up with a trailer. Alaska, I got 1 week of Arctic light infantry training (ALIT) since I got to Ft Wainwright in Dec, I was trained to use snowshoes and cross-country skis and we had our very first overnight during this training and we had no tents we had just our sleeping bags. I learned to trust the sub -zero sleeping bag. we did winter driver defense training. Then some of us had to give a class to our section on some random stuff. The one class I remember was how to protect our gear during and a possible EMP attack. But really all the Sgts I had saw us as tools they never mentored us, they treated more like children. Two of my units my first and third and last they never talked to me about staying in or what would need to be done if I wanted to make the army a career. I only had two NCOS who had shown me any respect. I did my job was good at it, I had everyone in my section coming to me when they encountered a problem they couldn't fix before they went to any one else, pissed of my leadership. Be glad you are in now, the NCOs can't lay hands on you or if they do at least just maybe the report would be taken seriously. Sorry for the rant. you are funny and hey I guess you are helping morale.
You can, you will...
He's officiall a plant. Almost had us in the beginning didn't ya battle?
