Yohei Fukuda, one of the greatest bespoke shoemakers in Japan, chats with Armoury co-founder Mark Cho about his beginnings, what makes his shoes great and what he sees for himself and Japanese bespoke shoemaking in future.

A great discussion. It was great to hear his story. The part about him replacing the soles of boxing shoes with regular sneaker soles gives the impression that his is the case of innate talent combined with proper education/development. Another great interview Mark! Great stuff.

Mark, sorry to hear you were ill. Great interview! I hope to get back to Japan in 2023 and would love to have a pair of bespoke shoes. That's going on my bucket list to find a place in Japan that offers it.

I'm curious to know what those early Yohei Fukuda shoes cost. I think there are many fine bespoke makers, but his are to me always the most beautiful.
