The word "dara" means nothing in azerbaijani. You are uzun akhmakh if you ask such a stupid question.
I am Armenian and have danced Armenian traditional dances. However, I think the women's dancing is extremely boring. All they do is wave their arms around and tip-toe here and there. At least I was able to have some actual fun in the Greek dancing I learned in my home country, as the traditions actually allowed women to dance equally among men. Even then!!! Armenian dancing shows how stubbornly rigid we still are about the roles of men and women. Even the men's dancing is limited. It's always all about showing how strong, brave and ready to defend they are. How boring after a while! I am proud to say I can dance with the men and feel included in Greek culture where I was born.

I'm so glad to read your comment. Having Armenian roots, I was curious about my folks' traditional dancing after I got into ballroom dancing in the west where I am born. To see all these videos where women dance, and it's just about waving arms and only looking elegant, rather than have some serious techniques involved, I got disappointed. A lot of times it's good that culture adapts. Sadly I don't think Armenia is ready for that, though

Uzundere is an Azerbaijan folk dance. The word "Uzundere" is Turkish and means "long stream". Congratulations on performing an Azerbaijani dance.

This is from Aram Khachaturyan's Gayane ballet. The fact that it has some Turkic name doesn't mean anything.

@@MrJazzistan Uzundere's note is included in the book "Azerbaijan Dance Musics" (original name Azerbaycan Reqs Havaları, Azernesr, Baku) written by Azerbaijani composer Said Rustemov in 1937. The Gayane Ballet was composed in 1942.

@@MrJazzistan What I am saying is this: Uzundere is an ancient Azerbaijani folk dance that existed before the Gayane Ballet. The note in Rustamov's book is just one of many proofs of this. Khachaturian used this folk dance in his work. And what's your theory? "Khachaturian reproduced an old folk dance of which he was not even aware of its existence, moreover, with the same Turkish name." Oh my God! This is a miracle! I think CNN should do this miracle a documentary.

@@serhatturunc3588 Khachaturyan has used all kinds of regional music for Gayane ballet including music from parts of Azerbaijan. But this particular piece is from Gayane ballet, and this is not an Azerbaijani folk dance as you wrongly put it. This is high class choreography from renowned Armenian dance troupe leader and tutor. Also, we have hundreds of such or similar dances written by Sayad Nova in 17th century.

The song "Uzundara" originates in a valley between Agdam and Prishib village in Azerbaijan area by the name of "Uzun dara", which means Long valley in Azeri.

Yeah i am armenian and i know that this is an azrbaijani dance.It is just spread in Georgia and Armenia too.Even the word uzundara proves that this is not ours but we even don't claim that this is our song/dance.The second titile of the song is բարեկամություն(barekamutyun) which actually means "friendship" and it probobly symbolizes the ex caucasian friendship:) Have a nice day.

@@BariAragil00 There is a ravine between Aghdam and Goytapa in Karabakh. Those territories are the historical territories of Azerbaijan. They were occupied by Armenians.It is called "Uzundere". It is said that this dance is dedicated to this valley. According to the legend, Uzundere was a camp of herdsmen, who moved to the pastures in the mountains, where they danced, rejoiced and rested on the way.

I am Armenian and have danced Armenian traditional dances. However, I think the women's dancing is extremely boring. All they do is wave their arms around and tip-toe here and there. At least I was able to have some actual fun in the Greek dancing I learned in my home country, as the traditions actually allowed women to dance equally among men. Even then!!! Armenian dancing shows how stubbornly rigid we still are about the roles of men and women. Even the men's dancing is limited. It's always all about showing how strong, brave and ready to defend they are. How boring after a while! I am proud to say I can dance with the men and feel included in Greek culture where I was born.

I'm so glad to read your comment. Having Armenian roots, I was curious about my folks' traditional dancing after I got into ballroom dancing in the west where I am born. To see all these videos where women dance, and it's just about waving arms and only looking elegant, rather than have some serious techniques involved, I got disappointed. A lot of times it's good that culture adapts. Sadly I don't think Armenia is ready for that, though

@@MrJazzistan Uzundere's note is included in the book "Azerbaijan Dance Musics" (original name Azerbaycan Reqs Havaları, Azernesr, Baku) written by Azerbaijani composer Said Rustemov in 1937. The Gayane Ballet was composed in 1942.

@@MrJazzistan What I am saying is this: Uzundere is an ancient Azerbaijani folk dance that existed before the Gayane Ballet. The note in Rustamov's book is just one of many proofs of this. Khachaturian used this folk dance in his work. And what's your theory? "Khachaturian reproduced an old folk dance of which he was not even aware of its existence, moreover, with the same Turkish name." Oh my God! This is a miracle! I think CNN should do this miracle a documentary.

@@serhatturunc3588 Khachaturyan has used all kinds of regional music for Gayane ballet including music from parts of Azerbaijan. But this particular piece is from Gayane ballet, and this is not an Azerbaijani folk dance as you wrongly put it. This is high class choreography from renowned Armenian dance troupe leader and tutor. Also, we have hundreds of such or similar dances written by Sayad Nova in 17th century.

Uzundərə is originally Azerbaijani dance and also consist from two Azerbaijani word Uzun - Long and Dərə - Walley ! Without any doubt it's ancient dance of Azerbaijan ! Armenian people wants to own every Turkic cultural element (Dance, music etc.) !

Yeah i am armenian and i know that this is an azrbaijani dance.It is just spread in Georgia and Armenia too.Even the word uzundara proves that this is not ours but we even don't claim that this is our song/dance.The second titile of the song is բարեկամություն(barekamutyun) which actually means "friendship" and it probobly symbolizes the ex caucasian friendship:) Have a nice day.

Oh My God! What kind of thief people you are?! "Uzundara" itself is turkish word means "long valley". I am Azerbaijani citizen. I don't want to incriminate armenian people just because of my citizenship. But whenever I see this kind of things I hate Armenia. Sadly, a lot of Azeris here are either simply ignorant or just full of hate towards Armenians and only believe their own propaganda. Have you ever investigated why Azeri school books teach biased history? Your government has closed your eyes, please open your eyes to true history of the Caucasus. Read what your previous generation did to ethnic Armenians living in Sumgait in 1988 and in Baku in 1990, amongst other atrocities Armenians have suffered in the hands of Turkic people. But if young people like you don't change their attitudes and learn unbiased history then what hope is there for any peace with your Armenian neighbour?

@@BariAragil00 There is a ravine between Aghdam and Goytapa in Karabakh. Those territories are the historical territories of Azerbaijan. They were occupied by Armenians.It is called "Uzundere". It is said that this dance is dedicated to this valley. According to the legend, Uzundere was a camp of herdsmen, who moved to the pastures in the mountains, where they danced, rejoiced and rested on the way.
