    He's just like every single "greatest guitar player ever" in one package, on command in a split-second, freely moving between the oceans like an Orca. I'm kinda new to Guthrie. But I'm a 38 year pro guitar veteran. I can fkng PLAY. But he just puts the joy back into it for me. He's beyond incredible.

    Yup, he said he doesn't like practicing he'd rather play, lol. Makes sense when you're that good. He also said he started playing around 2 or 3 yrs I believe.. I wish there were some old ass young gg tapes on youtube.. like when he was a kid or teen or even 20s... I love the fellowship. Gg and the sax dude ripping it together.. and his bro on bass.

    Only once for me, but I was literally standing in front of center stage with Marco's bass drum about 10 feet in front of me. It was a good place to be.

    I've seen them once, front row, in the middle, comparing them to other great acts I've seen wouldn't be fair, the Aristocrats are on another level entirely.

    Mr. Govan is DEF something special! Lots of chops, musicality, creativity. Those things don't always appear together quite this prolifically. The whole band is phenomenal!. But Guthries guitar playing is truly inspired, unique, adventurous 😮🎉

    Never seen someone play like that. The technique was amazing, but it wasn't for the sake of being flashy, it all added to the song and was really fun to listen to!

    Welcome to GG. If you want to explore his music more, move on to his own stuff. Much much better than the stuff with these guys. *Ner Ner* , in particular might be one of the best guitar compositions, ever.

    One of the incredible things about Guthrie is that his playing really transcends genres. He can do metal, jazz, prog, country etc. all equally well, but it always still sounds like him.

    He has a very distinctive legato as well, because he does it so fast but pulling off hard, so it sort of sounds like he's plucking notes, but he isn't.

    About a month ago I was listening to the album version of this song, along with all the rest on my Aristocrats iPod playlist, on a long road trip in my Mustang through Wisconsin and Michigan... and suddenly tonight it pops up on my KZread feed. How on earth do they know?! Anyway, sometimes life is very very good... and these guys are part of that.

    I'd love to see (and hear!) this guy play back to back with a young Italian fellow named Matteo Mancuso. Those two are the only guitar players I know at the moment who could make each other sweat. Of course there will be more of those aliens out there but I don't know them.

    It's important to remember this isn't a mindless fretwank, it's a ridiculously intricate composition that they're all somehow remembering and playing flawlessly. How he taught it to his band mates is another level of head-scratching. Makes Rush sound like Oasis.

    Yeah nice, very arstsy fartzy tempo & riff/like noodle minestrone soup, yet with a theme for sure, loved the blue wind tribute for Beck in it too particularly.....Guthrie and the unit know their historic influences for sure. Total thieves!!!! but with a twist.

    Depends on whatcha like :) think of it like food. Sometimes people like steak and eggs, other times samgyupsal with tons of goochjaang. Boring / interesting is as relative as unpalatable / delicious :) Like what you like, eat what you like, listen to what you like :) cheers

    Guthrie is my all time favorite guitar player, but I can't help but notice his guitar tone is very sterile and lifeless in recent years. I wish he'd go back to using a decent sounding amp. Huge fan either way.

    On "furtive Jack" He is partly emulating Django ,Jeff Beck & Shawn Lane & Allen Holdsworth.I never hear a bone of originality coming from Guthrie but he is a great emulator of other guitarists.

    Odd to think that combining all of those great influences you mentioned does not count as originality in your book... Isnt that what art is about? Taking something already done and doing it in another way? Even the great allan holdsworth had influences (his use of Olivier Messiaen's scales) But to each his own i think... the boundary between original and copy can be blurry at times in art but imho in this case it is clearly guthrie's voice and not any of those you mentioned im hearing
