I watch several smart home youtube video channels, and I have to say that your videos contain the most details. In particular, I really enjoyed your videos on the echo 4th gen and the nest mini. Keep up the good work.

This was an excellent in depth review. Thanks. Only thing missing which id be interested in would be the ease of installation?

Finally! The frustration we have with our Yale lock and it not responding with geofencing and only option is to put in the pin (harder for wife and her nails), it looks like this is the answer we've been waiting for. Thanks for showing the multiple ways and systems we can us. Our house is mainly Google with some Alexa but no Homekit even though the wife has iPhone and Apple watch. Let's hope it's on sale for Prime day.

@@TechWithBrett It was working fine with Smartthings to auto unlock and now it doesn't. All sorts of troubleshooting and nada. I'll put it on the back door when I get this one in.

Hello! Great video! If you have  TV (hardware, box), don’t you need this proprietary hub?

@techwithbrett Great review ! What is the built quality like compared to something like a the Yale or Schlage ? I saw some concerns about the battery cover plate being finicky to remove can it get damaged or wear out over time ? Does it work fine with rechargeable batteries ? (i ask because most rechargeable AA batteries are 1.2v not 1.5v which can cause some devices to think that it's not 100%)

if I set up the door lock with matter in google home and then added to HomeKit, the home key feature it's still there? or it won't work with matter?

  • @TechWithBrett

Yes it will still be compatible with both. That is how I set it up, Google Home on Matter and HomeKit directly though the Home app allowing for Home Key.

Great question. An Aqara hub is not required for HomeKit, but an Apple Home Hub is for automations and remote unlocking. For Alexa & Google Home, the Aqara Zigbee 3.0 Hub is required for automations, remote unlock & Matter.

It is not required to use the lock. You will have all functionality without the Hub except: automations, remote unlock, Matter and Google Home, Alexa, IFTTT Integration.

As long as your door hole diameter is 2 1/8" It will be a breeze. At our hold house we had a smaller door hole and it was not worth my time trying to drill a bigger hole. A handyman had the tools to get it done.
