I've heard of these disappearances before and they're all strange but the guy who dissapeared off the bus is the strangest .
The fact she asked for directions and how long the trail was, means she was unprepared to be there and through this she vanished assuredly.
@matthewmosier8439
Жыл бұрын
I disagree. Being unprepared is why a person would have less chance of surviving. BUT, not why they would vanish. Her being inexperienced and underprepared would logically make her less likely to have made it far before an accident or the cold got to her. A trace of her never being found is what is mysterious.

Serial killer cases are really rare, there may be one every decade or so, the 80's/90's for varying reasons were hot decades for serial crimes. BUT it's already been said by specialists in the US that there are always an estimated 25-50 serial killers active in any given year. Now this does make serial killers really rare still, but that could also be a product of victims not being connected or something similar. Hikers disappearing in some of the most remote parts of the country isn't so so suspicious to murder unless it's proven otherwise and that can be difficult if they're never found.
My first ever backpacking trip was to Glastenbury. I stayed at Goddard. Crossed Hell Hollow Brook and felt creeped out (I believe this is where the spent shell casing was found). It was the middle of summer but creepy quiet. Didn’t see a soul the entire time. I was struck with awful knee pain on the second day. I could barely hike out. It was sort of scary. I always chalked that trip up to being a beginner until I found out about the Bennington Triangle. I don’t believe in that kind of thing, but I won’t go solo there. Nooooope

The Bennington Triangle was delineated and named by author Joseph Citro, who wrote a series of books about strange mysteries. One of them was called Strange New England. Nice man, I met him when I was the cashier at The Wayside Restaurant.

I’m also a native Vermonter from the same area as these events and let me tell you, it’s left a mark. Shirley Jackson wrote a novel based on the Welden disappearance, and the state police were founded as a direct result of those events. I don’t know what to make of it, but a lot of people I know around here do think it might have been some kind of serial killer, because of the fairly short timespan and the proximity of the events.
@marvinbone1379

mcneely...after reading your comment...i just ordered the book. Thank you for letting me know about this. Read Jackson's bio YEARS ago and loved the story of her life. Have read several of her books, but wasn't familiar with The Hangsaman.
Some viewers may be from flat states. Vermont may be different than your perception. It is difficult to describe how challenging the terrain and weather can be. Even the main roads are mostly twisting hilly mountain roads that have very steep (icy?) inclines and sharp curves. It is like that area north of Little Rock, with all the hairpin turns but add cruel winters with pop up ice storms and nasty squalls. Most of the state seems frozen in time many decades ago from an infrastructure perspective. Wooden covered bridges, main routes are reduced to one lane going under a bridge. It is difficult to find anything open on Sunday and you may drive for hours without finding any kind of food at all, depending on your route.
I tracked her route on a Google map. It's a basically rural region surrounded by dense forests and mountains. Even today, it's pretty easy to lose your way. She probably went off the road, entered a forest, and vanished.

Great point! Mammoth cave in Kentucky connects all the way up to the south of lake Michigan. The gas companies used to pump and store natural gas in these huge limestone domed caverns in the Midwest until the EPA shut them down. Anyway, lots of spelunking tunnels & holes all over the AT system. Lots of cougars too. They drag their dead back to their underground/cave dens. No evidence to be found.

It was my dream to hike the Appalachian trail but a brain wasting disease put that dream to an end. I grew up in GA and moved to ME with my husband and have hiked parts of the trail in several states, but of course never had the opportunity to do the whole trail. It never ceases to amaze me how people will hike in with "day hiker" mentality and get in serious trouble and folk who hike alone also strike me as not too bright. Anything can happen. Here in Maine I was stalked by some creep until he realized I was not going to be alone at any point in time. Hubby let the man see he was armed and I wasn't going ANYWHERE alone, not even the bathroom. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'm still alive, so I think it was to my benefit to be that cautious.

I completely believe in the Bennington Triangle. My grandfather, George Joseph Regan, was a lawyer in New York City who built a vacation home in Pownal, VT, and was there with his family when Paula Jean Weldon went missing. He joined one of the first search parties to search for her. He told my father when he was older that there was a triangle in Vermont where weird things happened and how he’d never forgotten how shocked he was they never found a trace of Paula Jean.
My friend, who has lived in the area for about 20 years now, thinks the disappearances have to do with abandoned underground wells. There used to be mining (?) towns up on Glastonberry and there are abandoned wells up there. Love your videos!
It's been over 70 years, and in the 70 years since the last victim probably a hundred thousand have hiked the AT and Long Trail by thru, section and day hikers. I think it's safe to say the curse of the Bennington triangle is over.

Never having used a trail cam kzread.infoUgkx2sTDdZXomuxedMg_HothfjSXjR3rpPkA before, I was very impressed with the quality of the images and videos. The sensitivity of the camera can be adjusted as well as the length of video recordings. Once I found the sweet spot, I was getting great clips of deer and other animals almost every day. I was worried about battery life but have been running off the same 4 aa batteries for over a month. The SD card is easy to remove and connect to a computer. I have a Mac, and the AVI files open natively in QuickTime and are easy to save and share. This is a great, budget-friendly trail cam.
Love that you did a video on this!! I've been fascinated by the Bennington Triangle for a while, especially since I had the realization that the AT goes right through the heart of it. Was up in lake George two weeks ago. Ot went from dry to hail to snow ( required plowing) back to rain. How do you prepare for that
Your channel is becoming a niche True Crime vlog, Kyle. 😄
I LOVE everything about the AT ( Except the hiking part )🤠☕️☀️

Thank you for sharing this video.
I think you might have hit your stride here; while I find your slightly salty (like your mom), sarcastic delivery pretty entertaining, I think this 'true trail crime' genre is something unusual and pretty nifty. There's a guy (Base Camp Chris) I catch occasionally who does sasquatch stories in a spooky way and you might borrow a bit of his staging and ambience for these. Thanks for the vid; pretty cool stuff.

@@KyleHatesHiking Hey there! I think your work is excellent! I think story teller's who try to sound spooky are annoying.. You do just fine and don't need to change anything!! Here are my favorite channels.. Donovan Dread, his wife Lilith Dread and Mr Ballens all on u-tube.. They talk normally like you and don't clown the stories up.. 🤗

So I suppose you like the channel Chill's.. That channel is ridiculous! Anyway, you need to watch Donovan Dread, his wife Lilith Dread and you probably already know Mr Ballens u-tube channels.. They don't clown it up when they tell their stories and they have a lot of sub's.. I've heard Base Camp n I'm not a fan.. This dude is doing just fine.. Dark Waters is another channel that's kinda good. He has some good content anyway.. 🤔
I've backpacked that area a number of times and don't believe in any mysterious triangle, but I noticed an abundance of predators as well as trails that aren't well marked in some areas. Other than that I never noticed anything mysterious.
There's a lot of strange stories of people missing Lincoln, NH and west of that. I'm really surprised no one has looked into it.

I'll check it out!
About the kid it could just be an accident: as a child time passed way too slow for me, and once my family left me on a carousel for less than a minute so they could pay for my tickets and it felt like an eternity so I got off the ride and walked away. Fortunately people saw me and brought me back to my family, but if the 8 year old was alone for an hour and wanted to go to the mountains, he might have gotten bored quite fast and decided to take a walk. Then it would have been easy for him to get lost, not following the tracks but rather feeling adventurous... so a recipe for a disaster. He could've been kidnapped, yes, but he could definitely also have simply wandered off, gotten lost and then either gotten attacked by an animal or simply walked further into the wilderness making it impossible for him to be found again... Either way his disappearance is heartbreaking and I hope that the family gets answers someday! 💔
:50 into vid, atta boy Kyle. Calling out the slackers, the can't hackers and camp chair packers!! Doing gr8 on these, keep it up bud. When I think of some these disappearances.....on purpose????
Not to be a wet blanket but take three of anything and connect them. It makes a triangle. To attribute meaning to it is ignorant or misleading.
congratulations, you passed 100k subs!!
