The Apothecary Shop & Timeless Tales of Doctors in Colonial Williamsburg (2023)

The Apothecary Shop & Timeless Tales of Doctors in Colonial Williamsburg (2023)
Step back in time and journey through the enchanting streets of Colonial Williamsburg which lead to the city’s most renowned house of healing, in our latest documentary, “The Apothecary Shop & Timeless Tales of Doctors in Colonial Williamsburg.”
Be immersed in the rich tapestry of physic, surgery, and pharmacy during the 18th century as we explore Colonial Williamsburg's meticulously recreated Apothecary Shop, a hub of healthcare for the people who lived in and around the historic city back then.
The story will also take viewers outside the Pasteur and Galt Apothecary Shop and delve into the lives of a few not-as-well-known doctors who practiced in Williamsburg.
Both fascinating and sometimes mysteriously controversial at times, their vibrant history is told and revealed through their business advertisements, their medical findings, the opposition they faced, town rumors they endured, and recorded evidence they left behind.
Hear firsthand, the awakened voices of these pioneers of medicine who once practiced physic (or at least attempted to) within the Colonial Capitol of Virginia.
A vivid account that in part, reflects upon the mesmerizing pages of popular, past publications, to bring a visual account and a fresh look at stories of old deserving to be retold.
With scenes of the beautifully restored city of Colonial Williamsburg shown throughout, we also reveal where another local Apothecary shop from the past once stood.
This documentary will not only go inside the popular wellness pharmacy that stands again along the Duke of Gloucester Street in Williamsburg today but will also take viewers on a curious journey to rediscover just a few of the remarkable sagas of past physicians, as well as medical swindlers, who left their imprint on this iconic destination in Colonial Virginia long ago.

Thank you so much for posting. Dr. Archibald Blair of Williamsburg was my 7th great grandfather. If I am not mistaken, his house is still standing (saw it when I was a young girl). Dr. George Gilmer was his son-in-law.

Having just come from a week in Williamsburg, we missed so much of the information and much needed details of the workings in the shops ,some were closed and so much to see . Thank you for this researched and well done video.

Another wonderful video. You deliver the video professionally and draw the viewer into what it must have been like back in the colonial days. I especially love when you pan the camera outside the windows. I feel like I'm standing in the store back in colonial times. I have subscribed to notices, I like your channel so much.

Scott, impressive! I was hoping there would be mention of other practitioners like Arthur Lee. Born at Stratford Hall, educated in Scotland and resided in Bassett Hall for a time. He was the younger brother of Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee. Maybe another time. I was very impressed with the voiceovers. CWF actors? Did you happen to notice if there was a physic garden behind the shop?

Thanks Barbara! Im not sure if there was a garden behind the Apothecary but will peek next visit. So many great physicians then it seems like Arthur Lee! Maybe another episode one day soon!🎩
