The Apache stronghold defending sacred Oak Flat land from a copper mine
In the heart of the Arizona high desert lies a battle for the soul of the land. The ancient, sacred grounds of Apache Native territory are under threat from a looming giant - a massive copper mine that promises riches for the locals, and a pathway to the so-called green transition. But, as is often the case, it comes at a cost.
The San Carlos Apache tribe calls it Chi’chil Bildagoteel; English speakers call it Oak Flat. It sits on a mountainous plateau within a 17.3-kilometer oasis in the Tonto National Forest. Rio Tinto and BHP, two of the world’s biggest mining companies, have staked their claim here through a joint venture called Resolution Copper. For over 10 years they’ve been lobbying governments for the right to build a colossal mine that would cover roughly 7,000 acres of surface area, and extend more than a mile into the ground.
The only thing that stands in their way is the resistance of the Apache Stronghold, a nonprofit community organization of Natives and non-Natives uniting to counter ongoing colonization, defend holy sites and protect freedom of religion, which was created to protect Chi’chil Bildagoteel.

Watching this made me cry I’ve never understood man’s inhumanity to native people who have preserved this land for millennia. Shame on Senator John McCain, for betraying Arizona and the Apache tribe for putting a rider in that Senate bill to allow the sale of US owned land to a foreign corporation. It had been protected for decades since president Eisenhower mandated, it be preserved
Native Americans have always been true Guardians of the Environment. ❤🌹🙆🏽♀️🧏🏿♂️
I grew up a few miles from here, I have since moved and somehow HAD NO IDEA this was happening. God bless the grandfather, the people, their strength, their values.
It's now been over 500 years since the beginning of the (never officially acknowledged) genocidal invasion from across the seas and likely from across the skies as well. The atrocities continue, and all our hearts and souls are dying. This must end! Deep gratitude to those on the front lines holding down and protecting sacred space. Many blessings and peace for all life.
There's two kinda people, one that's want to preserve life snd sanctity and one that will destroy everything in the name of 'prosperity'.. greedy people will be this Nation, this planets death 😢
Thank you Angels... Bless the Apache Stronghold ❤
Thanks for the video. My prayers are with you.
the resistance's fight leaves the landscape big, while the mining corps' activities leave the landscape decimated..
Blessings and Love .... ❤️❤️❤️
That’s just sad, leave the land and Native Americans alone‼️‼️‼️
North Dakota... Standing Like Standing Rock!! Apaches You Are Not Alone
