Yeaaah, thanks for doing the tag, I really enjoyed this insight into your (not definitive) anti-TBR 😊 I think it's totally fine not to say never and being willing to try things! For me, I really took it as "I don't have time to read everything I want, so I need to make choices, and some are easier than others" 😂 Also a big fan of Alice in Wonderland (I actually adapted the novel into a play and performed it when I was at uni, it was honestly one of the best times of my life!). I'm too faint-hearted for gorry books I think, so I would likely pass on the Alice book too!

I like Steinbeck, though a couple of his books have been misses, but I can see how he wouldn’t appeal to some people. I haven’t finished it, but I was blown away by the parts of East of Eden I did read.

Having heard so many people rave about it, I think that is where I’ll start if I ever decide to read Steinbeck!

I love watching your videos! You have a very peaceful and calm energy. It reminds me of the libra ♎️ sign. I have a question. Do you ever feel guilty for not liking a popular book that everyone else likes? Sometimes when I start reading something and It doesn’t captivate me like it does to other people. I just feel like there’s something wrong with me for not liking it. But there are many overrated books out there that don’t deserve all the fuss.

I used to feel like that but now I realize there are so many different types of books and readers and it is impossible for everyone to like everything :)

I think we all develop an allergic reaction to the authors we were forced to read in school, so even though I don’t agree, I get the Steinbeck reluctance. Wild horses couldn’t drag me to another Jane Austin book after being forced to read Emma in school. Great vid 👍

Thank you for watching. It is so funny how reading tastes can vary so much among readers! But that is part of the beauty for me.

I tried Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Wolf. To me it was quite pointless. Someone's daily thoughts. John Steinbeck is a top ten writer for me with East of Eden being his finest work. If you ever decide to give him a try again this is the one.

@@jobuckley2999 That is what I fear about Mrs. Dalloway. I don’t know if all her work is like that but it has put me off. East of Eden is not one I was forced to read in school so if I got around to Steinbeck I would be much more open to it over others!

The premise of Alice sounds really good. But I would probably struggle with too much gore as well. I have one Colleen Hoover just so I can make up my own mind about it, or rather get some insight into what it even is, but I’m not sure I’ll enjoy it. But I feel the same with reality tv, it’s trashy, but sometimes it’s the only thing I feel like watching 😅

@@ellenmadebookclub that is very true! I have watched my share of trashy reality tv 😅 I would be very interested to hear your thoughts if you do read Colleen Hoover! I seem to see those books everywhere and it makes me NOT want to explore them but I think you and I share some reading tastes 🙂

Hot takes coming in! 😂… I agree about John Steinbeck. There are several modernish authors that I’m told are classic must read books… and I just found him boring.
