Bucchigiri and Tokyo revengers either have bad storylines, characters, and it’s idiotic. I also don’t want to watch my nemesis tbh. IMO it’s hate watching. None of that is in windbreaker, it builds on charter and setting while having good animation. Its 10/10 cause all the other fail miserably.

I love watching it. Wind Breaker knows what it is and doesn't pretend to be more than that. I found myself enjoying watching anime weekly again because of it. I mean Idk why people complain about Haruka's story just beginning. It IS just the beginning. But I do understand the issue with anime being just a marketing tool. It is sadly something I had to go through with so many anime that I loved and never got past season 1.

I do understand your argument and also feel upset with how often we get an introduction to a good thing that never gets continued BUT I absolutely love this show. The animation, character building and writing, pacing. All of it is positively fantastic. It's rare to find fist fights this well animated since everything is swords. I will be recommending this show to others even if that just leaves more people hanging on for a sequel that never happens. I've done that before so why stop now? (Looking at you Rokka no Yusha.)

the show was garbage
I don't have actual confirmation, but I heard through the grapevine that Wind Breaker is supposed to be a 2 cour, split cour series, which means even if you do consider this arc with Shishitoren to simply be a prologue, there should be quite a bit more of the story planned for development at this point.
Honestly I clicked more because I was wondering why both Sakura and Gon were on the thumbnail
Remember back in the 2000s when we had series like Kaleido Star, Full Moon wo Sagashite or Nana? You know the type....they had around 50 episodes and told a complete story? Those weren't shounen? Okay but we also had FMA, Samurai Champloo, Death Note, Eureka Seven and dozens of others that actually finished....then 2008 happened and everything went to shit on the scheduling side for anime. There have been some exceptions but I really do think things really started to change around 2008 for long term scheduling for long running series.
@TheAnimeAtheist

I don't. I remember most shows, including good ones never even getting a season 2, let alone going to completion. The fact is we are getting a higher proportion of subsequent seasons and more title completion than we ever have before.
I did click on the vid for wind breaker. I'm enjoying the anime a lot but ill edit my comment after i finish the vid 6:45 i agree with this. it's been refreshing having so many side characters stories fleshed out a bit. they've done it tastefully too. 10:00 yeah i can see what you're arguing here. it does feel like a prologue. I really hope we get more seasons cause i've been enjoying it so much. I hate when studios make a season of anime solely just to try and promote a specific thing or to direct manga sales with zero aspirations to actually flesh out the story and animate a couple seasons/finish it.
@andrewfantome4020

If this doesn't get new seasons, then it will be a very wrong decision, since at the moment the entire "first" season is essentially one mini-tournament arc and a couple of SoL moments outside of it.

I can see that but I would rather have 1000 of this kind of show then have 1 shows of bucchigiri and Tokyo revengers. The art is incredible but everything else sucks. Well the side characters are cool to. It’s equivalent of a gold spray painted turd. Windbreaker is just gold tho.

It is interesting that your video "about numbers" you mentioned that wasn´t so popular was the one I liked so much that it convinced me to finally subscribe to the channel XD
Clickbait video but 90% of anime never get completed. As an anime fan, I've come to terms a show will probably not get more seasons. If you didn't know, anime is just a giant promotion to get more people to buy manga and merchandise. If an anime doesn't make money, it doesn't make sense to invest more money. In the end, if your favorite anime is popular enough, and people are buying manga/bluray/merch, you'll get another season.
I understand the feelings. But in this modern era of anime fandom I feel like as long as the series get watched that the next season would be a original shonen lenght. So far I've heard people liking it. Side note the manga readers are always going to tell people to read the manga. I'm sometimes like that as well.
Don't worry, Yuru Camp is one of my top 5 fav anime. So I'm there with you.😊
Season 2 has just been announced so you need not worry about it being a read the manga ending or anything like that :)
The pacing in Windbreaker is great. From the very start, the show just rips, and it doesn't let up.
The Wind Breaker manga has been a favorite of mine since its first arc (I happened to find it very early on while looking for another series) because at its core, its a comfort series. I've treated it as a hidden gem for over 2 years but I guess I can't quite call it that anymore. It is exhilarating to see it get such a great anime adaptation but there's a part of me that wishes it didn't get such a big limelight due to the majority of the people (mainly young kids and teenagers cause they're only ones who have enough free time to keep up with everything new coming out each season) seeing it only for the violence and action instead of the character driven story that it is. It...stops feeling like a "comfort" series and now I can't enjoy it the same way I used to...

Ironic considering boiling down the anime to just "cool fights I wanna see." Is the exact problem Choji ran into, kid wanted to do nothing but "be the strongest and the freest" an overly simple worldview that doesn't really leave you satisfied. We will have to hope that it continues and gets a season two. And if it does? Then suddenly it's worthwhile, because it'll be more complete... and not just a big ol' blueballing advertisement.
I did not recognize anything about the anime in the thumbnail. I clicked it cause I'm a fan of your work.
Is it just me or does the premise of this video not make any sense? Essentially "dont watch this good show because it might not get a season 2 and I dont care about it unless I know a season 2 is coming." Thats just a really jaded way of making a self fulfilling prophecy.
I think you're missing the point. It isn't Wind Breaker's fault. It's the fault of the anime industry deciding everything should only be 10 or 12 episodes at a time. It is rare for a story to be able to handle an entire arc well in that short an episode count. They need to commit to 24 episodes more frequently as that let's the series breathe and often get to a better pausing point than such a short run.
11:25 These days? C'mon, I know you're old enough to remember when MOST manga other than a handful of super-titles (the Big Three, anything by Rumiko Takahashi, Sailor Moon, etc) would get at best a six-episode OAV compressed adaptation of the first story arc with a "The Adventure Continues In The Manga!" ending. Even JoJo originally suffered this fate, only to come back later because it ran long enough to get a second chance. If anything the fact that these days most manga adaptations are at least a 12 episode cour, with many going on to further seasons, is a vast improvement over how things used to be.
I love wind breaker. It’s so much fun. Before the Sakura vs Togame fight I started reading the manga and caught up. I couldn’t wait. Oh boy was I in for a ride. A few moments made me actually cry. I can’t stop reading. My favorite characters are Sakura and Togame. Kaji climbing up there. I really enjoy Sakura as the mc.
Dang this is a pessimistic take. What you say about windbreaker is true for so many anime as you mentioned, not unique to it. I still plan to watch it and continue on with the manga if I feel the pull to. Just the way the industry is sadly
I mean, even if it was surpassed by Kaiju no. 8. It is still competing with what is possibly the current most anticipated Shonen adaptation on the market. The mere fact it is up here as a new show is remarkable

I'm completely excited for more. I can understand how the meta can influence how you feel about the series.
Speaking of older shows for a moment, what ever happened to your review of Planetes?

pls consider doing a series of short videos that are just reminders of some sleeper older anime like planetes, ergo proxy, onizuka, moribito etc. shouldnt take up much of your time and i feel like i had a problem with discovering some great sleeper shows after i finished all the mainstream stuff

@lexp6099 doesnt that phrase mean that you think the ending was lacluster? anyways imo planetes is the greatest all around anime out there for people that are decently deep into anime. the show has such great characters, the story and the world building. the animation holds yp fantastically and the music is top tier. the ending wrapped things up very well as well and the last eva mission was very clever.
I watched this to the end the first time I watched this video, and had to switch from my tv to my computer to write this. There's something fundamental about this argument that I just can't jive with. You say Windbreakers is good, but you can't recommend it due to it feeling like a prologue and the cynicism that there won't be a satisfying resolution. The thing that just doesn't sit right with me is that, it was enjoyable, but, because the meta of this show getting more seasons is so astronomical, it's not worth experiencing in the first place. I may be a romantic, but I personally believe; that if art has an impact of any kind, then it has value. To say something isn't worth the time, just because the ending is impossible to be satisfying, is kind of missing the forest through the trees in my opinion. (If I'm using that turn of phrase correctly.) Just because I will never be a rock star, doesn't mean I can't enjoy learning and playing music. The time, the enjoyment, the experience, were all worth having, as evidenced in the fact that you made this video at all. (While admittedly statistically there is little to no chance there will be a satisfying conclusion. But statistically the average person has one testicle, so even that ain't perfect.) I mean, I get the fact that it feels like a prologue is like having a promise made that effectively can never be kept, which does feel bad. I just think the good times still matter. The last point I want to address is that you said roughly, if the show will never be finished why didn't I just read the manga in the first place? But that's the thing, if this show had never aired, would you have ever even given the manga a shot in the first place, let alone known about it at all. Again maybe my outlook is naive, that said I still think there is value worth sharing to others even if it will never end properly, because of the experiences that were had along the way. And hey, now I'm purchasing this manga's English volumes from a local comic book store and am supporting the official release as well as a family owned establishment, so my time with the show is helping more than just me. Anyway, that's my two cents, and if it wasn't art related, I probably wouldn't have commented at all. I hope you find something better in the future.
I mean, I would not be quite so pessimistic about Wind Breaker's chances of getting a second season at the very least. It is very popular main stream shonen series, with good manga sales, and very well received anime, so I would say it has much better chance of getting multiple seasons than your average series.
A response to the opening statement. Have you ever heard of something called a subscribe button?
I watch you because I like you dude. You make cool content about something I love and you do it in a way that engages me. Anyway, back on topic, sort of. I have seen my fair share of anime that just ended after the first season. When I was much younger I watched Tenjho Tenge which just ends before the bad guys is even fought. Sad times.
I wish more anime would get complete stories as well. however, by the time season 2 of most shows comes out, I've forgotten so much of season 1 that I barely know what's going on and I miss out on a lot of the enjoyment I had for a season 1. I don't have time to rewatch anime very often anymore, so I usually just slug through a season 2 without really knowing what's going on unless it recaps me well enough. This is one of the reasons why I don't bother to keep up with shows seasonally. I mean I watch seasonal anime, but I'm usually working on 2-3 seasons behind most of the time. One of the benefits to this approach is that I can easily wait for a season 2 to come out before watching season 1 and then go through 2 seasons at the same time. Though I'm still totally screwed if a season 3 comes out lol
@murderman8578
Ай бұрын
Sounds like a skill issue
I honestly think that they will adapt a second season. So I think it's good that they serialized it like this. The plot thus far is very lacking as you mentioned, because it is a literal prologue. Now whether I'll wait for season 2 before reading the manga is unanswered at this point, but either ways when the season 2 comes out. I am definitely watching it.
what is colors?
I like the series, problem is, what seems to be the main arc concluded in episode 9. What the rest? Or will it be 25 episodes?
Came here because you're great at what you do 🎉

‘..at least you get to keep Berserk company.” That hurt me so much
Hey numbers head! I clicked because i like watching you talk about anime, even the disappointing aspects of it!!
I would be thrilled with a brand new video on the all time GOATs, like Spice and Wolf. It's all purely subjective, but I am often surprised when younger fans either only know the name of or nothing about some of the greats from yesteryear. My first foray into anime was Legend of the Galactic Heroes in the 1990s, so I am always interested to see people's "best ever" lists if only because it's fascinating to see what has been tossed into the dustbin of history.
I have to ask, are you compressing the video to h.264 before uploading?
I would never be bored of hearing you talk about the GOAT wolf.
I feel like this is a content creator problem and not a consumer problem. Why would you want to watch the anime when it doesn’t cover everything in the story and have an ending? To see parts you like animated? To hear the voices and see another person’s take on the material you like as a fan?

I'm watching Wind Breaker and I like it but I'm not invested... and what's happening isn't all that interesting to me because I'm a talk with my mouth not my fists person but hearing you say that we are zipping through the manga is incredible to me because I think I would die reading 4 volumes to get to where we are in the show. It does feel like a prologue and it's good, but like it's not hooking me so I can't imagine reading that much manga just to get to this point.

You were quite right and correct in many ways, but it seems to me that you missed one thing. Just 10-15 years ago, such things were quite the norm, even for shows that were an objective event, if not of a year, then at least of a season. As you rightly said, “read the manga if you want to know what happened next.” But we've already been so spoiled by full or soon-to-be full adaptations that we've become completely spoiled by this and now perceive the "advertising for manga" type of adaptation as something arrogant and obviously wrong, lmao.

Here I clicked because I thought you had an opinion on more than one anime this season that you were unable to recommened. Still glad i watched.
I don't see the excitement I get from watching a great anime as a waste of time at all, even if it "doesn't have an ending" or is "just a prologue". I watch it because it's a fun way to spend time and if I decide to read the manga later then cool! I love manga too so it's also not a waste of time. WHY not read it in the first place then? General audiences just have a tougher time sitting down to read a manga vs sitting down to stare at the shiny box, I guess? I think the point is read more manga! Because manga is great! And if it gets an anime adaptation, then you can enjoy both! And put a voice to the character and support the creator(s) of the manga.
1:16 It's sad that his popular anime video with stats didn't do that well. I LOVE to dive into statistics and numbers -- just another reality check that I am in the minority.
i see it as a trial run i guess. even if i could have just started with the manga. i wouldnt have known about it without the anime adaptation. and it getting an anime also means to me that its selling well , decently liked and popular, and far enough along to get an adaptation. which means if i do like it, i have a decent amount to read if i do like it pretty effective billboard id say. i dont mind
Even though your concerns were warranted (at the time), it's still a good show to watch. But thank goodness for a second season.

Ok well there’s a season 2 confirmed now so what’s the excuse for not recommending this series exactly, that people have to wait for more? Saying that you DON’T recommend Wind Breaker when you DO recommend Kaiju #8 when they’re in identical situations in terms of adaptations is one of the biggest pieces of nonsense I have ever seen from this channel, and yes I’m upset cuz I expect better…
I saw Gon and clicked! wall played sir, well played!
I’ve enjoyed windbreaker for what it is, it’s not really trying to break any boundaries but it is very good at what it is. Some of the characters do seem to have some slightly cliche/annoying traits but i don’t particularly mind because the premise to begin with is so absurd I think it works. Two other shows I’ve really gotten into is yatagarasu and oblivion battery. Yatagarasu for the story and mystery, and oblivion battery for its themes, although again some of it is characters are very anime. I gave mysterious disappearances a shot and at the beginning it seemed like it might actually be decent but as I thought it would it inevitably evolved into nothing but ecchi bait and the mysteries stopped being mysterious.
I clicked the notification when this dropped
I checked this show when it had only 4 episodes and wanted to check out this show a lot of people were reacting to with headings saying it was great. I was curious and watched episode 1 and was hooked. Not just the fighting animation is awesome, but the characters are interesting. Sakura may be a typical tsundere tough guy, but he’s so endearing with his natural good nature underneath that ‘I don’t like anyone’ image. I mean he got flustered when someone thanked him, gave an old man his wallet that left behind, gave a old lady a piggyback ride cuz her back hurt, he says rude things but does nice things. He’s another guy that’s been ostracized by society so his answer is to be the best fighter against others. I’m a sucker for tough guys with heart of gold, and he hooked me. Doesn’t hurt I love his look.
I will wait for season 2 manga for fights would be boring why anime is so much more entertaining
Well Tokyo Revengers just had its 3rd season adapted and its popularity had fallen off a cliff during its 1st season. With Wind Breaker being so successful I am optimistic that it will get a second season and beyond, otherwise that would be a great injustice since I do think it is the better of the 2.
Have faith I believe they’ll stick the landing for this season ending and we’ll get a season 2…hopefully

Windbreaker is 4th in the past month as "most popular" according to sites you cant talk about.
The tragic thing is unless your a big name the anime is just marketing for the manga thats how we get things like the promise neverland situation because there is so much manga being made that needs to be adapted we have the opposite problem of 20 years ago when anime would just run strait and run out of manga now the manga ends with alot of anime left and they dont care to adapt it unless its super popular. Now for windbreaker I think its season will end well based on ep 10 the conversation between sakura and the leader aswell as listening to the leaders of the gangs talk he has a decent idea of what he needs to get to the top and the last few episodes will likely be him getting to the starting line ya it is kinda a prologue end but like vinland saga season 1 a satisfying end to a prologue
