The AMG GT is a DISAPPOINTMENT

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We discuss the new AMG GT, and how it is such a downgrade from its predecessor. I also explain some of the reasons for why this is the case, and why Mercedes took this specific route when developing the new GT.

    When it doesn't make common sense why a company did something, it's cost savings.

    It seems AMG is making sure that all their old cars appreciate in value by making all their new cars very middle of the road and boring.

    Sadly I would have to agree, I can't think of a new model that's significantly better or better at all than the previous generation

    Great Vid! I own a 2018 GTC, and have friends asking me...did you see the new GT? I try to be civil in my reply, but unless you know you don't know! The additional weight, distribution of said weight (front engine), rear seats, lackluster shock & awe factor has relegated the new GT to Boringsville. The Original GT series based on the SLS is so loved and in a category all its own. It has a cult following. Its dramatic, dynamic and carries a presence that is lost in this new iteration. Happy to be a custodian of a real AMG and appreciate this car exists. What a moment in time that an equal balance of supercar, GT car and luxury car all sit ontop of the same 4 wheels. Thanks for making this video and diving deep in to explaining just how special the c190's are.

    Of course, the 190 is truly fantastic. Was daily driving a GTC Edition 50 for a week a few years ago, took care of some maintenance on it for a family friend. Very special car, great combo of rawness and civility with the rear steer haha. Would love to drive a new GT to feel the difference

    I really admire the AMG GT and drove one at Speed Vegas. What a blast! But you could give me one and I still couldn't afford the maintenance and repair of the complex and expensive German over-engineering.

    I had a 2019 GTR and it was a BEAST. I traded it for a lambo evo and regret it to this day! Best sounding car I ever own and it was 100% stock. I think the new model looks less edgy but I look forward to the GTR and higher end trim. I’m sure they will be sharp

    Great presentation. Do you think older generation GT, especially R version will gain value?

  • @SamAbraham

    @SamAbraham

    Considering so many of them were made, its hard to say they will gain value. GTR Pro certainly will at some point due to rarity. I think their depreciation will eventually slow and level out, while the new cars will plummet rather quickly. For example, pre-COVID you could find a GTR for around $120k on the low end of things.. a very good value for money. I don't think we will see them ever go below that. Even the brand new SL is selling for below MSRP due to low demand. I suspect there may be a similar situation with the GT once its been around for a few months.

    Ya this car is a huge joke n marks the end of amg. They no longer sell a single sports car or super car, all them weigh over 4400lb more then a jeep wrangler and most midsize suvs, or even older 80s 560sel long wheelbase 4 door s classes. It has awd, no transaxle, no dry sump, no dct, weight distribution is nose heavy like a s class coupe, its basically a e class coupe in a cooler body. Its a hardtop sl, it has a generic c class interior. No longer a supercar or even a sports car. Its sad, seeing sports cars go extinct and amazing brands dying like this, only a handful of new sports cars worth driving or owning. We need another gullwing supercar from them, with a n.a v8 or even better a sports car like the slc bring that back make it look like a amg gt, stuff the 4.0 v8 in there without turbos, under 3400lb, manual trans and dct option, dry sump, transaxle, rearward weight distribution, n u have a masterpeice. Climate control has to be knobs and buttons, this cant be allowed in sports cars u have to constantly change fan speeds n having to tap the shit out the touchscreen is unacceptable.

    Completely agree, though unfortunately it doesn’t seem likely that we’ll ever see a car like that from AMG or any of the other major brands. We’ll just have to keep the older models on the road, which I don’t really have a problem with personally. Does suck to see the downfall unfold in front of us.

    @@SamAbraham ya definitely not, but if they put the battery where the engine normally goes like lotus did with the evijah to keep driving position low, then u can swap a engine in, it will be alot of work but worth it. Also restomods, and like the new lotus type 66 revealed a few days ago, they said they will continue making track only cars with engines, and if we're able to convert them to street legal, legally or illegally that would be super cool. Theres already alot of good cars worth driving and owning so its kind of a good thing aswell, so we dont have to keep buying new cars, just choose ur arsenal and stick with it, for life, just sucks for future generations. I think in the future combustion engines will make a comback in a big way with big fat 6.2 n.a v8s, v10, v12, gt3 6s, if some sort of new technology is developed to make them efficient and run on synthetic fuel for cheap, we just need it in sports cars. Sports cars should be exempt from all the b.s anyways they wouldnt make the slightest difference to the environment by going electric there so rare to begin with, u almost never see them, and people only drive em on weekends for a quick drive n thats it, its just straight up tyranny, fraud, were being fked with purposely for no reason this is proof governments want us to be depressed n dumb so they can use us like zombies for there agendas.

    hey man really like your content. Maybe you could add more details like length etc when comparing the hood so viewers can get a better technical idea... i personally drive a amg gtr and frankly i think they will start to hold in value due to the wide body and less being made( vs the normal amg gt with the narrower body which carries less presence. People who buy amg gt for the long hood will definitely not cross shop into the new amg gt . My take is that the new amg gt is a move of cost cutting to combine the amg gt63s and amg gt line up into one .

    This car looks great, taking cues from Aston Martin and Porsche in it's exterior design. But, this car doesn't blow me away, either, especially given how compelling the new SL still is compared to this car (and you can drop the top on the SL). Seems to me, there was a wider gap between the previous AMG GT and the SL as far as overall appeal, with the AMG GT having the distinct advantage. But, with this car, that's not the case. I'm more disappointed that this car will not come as a cabriolet than anything else. Also, in years past, it was all about the Porsche 911, because it was pretty much in a class of it's own. But, now there's a new player on the scene that I personally prefer over the 911, the Corvette C8 convertible (I've own both in years past). Overall, I am somewhat disappointed in this car.

    "Not really much of a sports car..." Really? The other reviews on KZread RAVE about this car, and two of them show video with 0-60 times of 2.94 and 2.97 seconds, even lower than their advertised 3.2 seconds. For a car with up to 23 cubic feet of luggage space in the back, it is BOTH a grand tourer AND a super car, with cutting edge electronics, superb handling, and blistering speed. I'd pick this over a 911 Turbo every day of the week and twice on Sundays. When a couple in their 50s or 60s can take off for a long weekend, take first place in a road race, absorb the rough and rumble of rural dirt roads with ease, and still pick up their grandkids at camp on the drive back--a drive that those kids will remember 20 years from now--AMG has truly hit their mark. "The world's first Super-Tourer" is an apt description and a perfect moniker.

  • @SamAbraham

    @SamAbraham

    0-60 times mean very little to driving enthusiasts. A Tesla Cybertruck will do 0-60 in about the same time, and while its impressive, it is by no means symbolic of the driving experience. Even an E63S will handle well and perform well on track. The new GT is a great car as it is, but its additional weight and downgrade of powertrain setup make it less of a sportscar than its predecessor. Also, good luck fitting anyone into those rear seats. What you described is the perfect role for an SL, not an AMG GT. The step back from the front-mid engined setup with a DCT transaxle clearly shows that this car is a step back from being as raw as its predecessors. At this point, it is closer in nature to a BMW M8 rather than a 911 Turbo. Again, its a great car, but it checks the boxes more of an SL, rather than an AMG GT. This all circles back to the point that MB were trying to cut costs by shifting the GT/SL to one platform, which also had to replace the S coupe/cab, resulting in a number of compromises on both the "sporty" and "luxury" end of the spectrum.

    Basically Merc will have to do all the T, S, T/S, GTS trim slow drip on the C191/C192 year by year like what the 911 does to barely catch up with a base C190. I test drove the R232 recently and think that the CLE convertible will do just fine in terms of purpose. I would totally picked the DB11,DB12, DBS superleggera instead if I ever bother to pretend interested in such weight and dimension. The R232 and C191/C192 makes me want to revisit the SLS final edition, that's how bad it is.

    @@956870733 MB never wants you to buy older models, because they cannot make money off of it (aside from parts). They would much rather you trade in your current GT for a new one, but I don't think that's going to be happening all that much in the grand scheme of things. I think they just want to maximize the profit they make by cutting costs and increasing prices which they have been doing this last few years. I'm sure the EQ budget is taking funds away from other model lines to some degree, but they are endangering their brand integrity, that's for sure! Completely agree with your other comments, it will be interesting to see what the replacement for the AMG GTR is like, or if they even call it that
