It wasn't the taxes that were the issue. It was the "taxation without representation" that was. The colonists were not given any representatives in parliament, meaning they had NO say in the legislation that was being made that directly affected them. THAT is what they were upset, rightly, about.

Taxation without representation is not the only reason for the revolution though. Of course people were upset about forced trade restrictions and higher taxes, but even if there were colonial representatives in the parliament, it's not like they would have had a large enough influence to undo the taxation after the Seven years war. It definitely wasn't just "the greedy British suppressing their subjects" as it is sometimes portrayed, but a multitude of reasons for the revolution such as the desire for westward expansion beyond the Appalachians, which wouldn't have been possible due to treaties between King George and the native tribes.

Well it's debatable if they were rightfully upset they were a colony which the british literally paid to set up and upkeep and a colony doesn't have seets in parlament What they did wrong is how they taxed them but a colonys doesn't have seets in parlament

@@animalchin5082 The question about slaves, freedom of speech on the royals, new immigrants and prisoners from the Isles, and plus overall being hundreds of miles/kilometers and falling culturally distant were an issue too.

At my high school, we had AP (advanced placement) courses that focused on both European and world history. To explain AP courses, they're sorta like university courses taught at the high school level. Anyway, in those courses, we learned about a variety of historical events, such as the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, and of course both World Wars.

We have different types of history classes. We take social studies, world history, U.S. history, economics, government but most forget almost everything after school lol we cover renaissance and all that stuff.

15:45 If you watch the documentary about the Hamilton-musical, Daveed Diggs (who played Jefferson) had a good wording for it: "Jefferson was a great thinker who wrote amazing pieces, and he SUUUUUUCKED as a person."

The Colony of Delaware was founded as "New Sweden".

We actually have a town called "Swedesboro" here in NJ. The area was originally a Swedish colony.

That George the third had bad handwriting is reportedly true. The exact wording and what the wording looked like to the Continental Congress is open to interpretation.

Good reaction, and you are definitely not the only reactor who has commented on how hard it can be to follow along with Oversimplified, since they/he talk so fast. There are also times where they/he talk about thing out of chronological order, and they often do not say when things are happening in general.👍

For me personally, I live in the Netherlands and havent had even 1 lesson about the American Revolution. We did learn about how the USA was created and about the tax thing with England but nothing about the war itself. We also had like only a quarter of a paragraf about the Vietnam war. All of those things were in the theme about the cold war wich we did learn much about. Nice room btw😅

I would have personally put fdr up there instead of teddy tho. Side note, the land where they chose to put Mt Rushmore is the black hills, a sacred area for the Lakota Sioux who weren't allowed to have their sacred ceremonies they'd done for thousands of years or live and farm. So its an area of controversy as the Sioux has been trying to get rights back in the area. Theres been violence there clear back to 1975 with a stand off between fbi and natives. The four presidents depicted have their own crimes against the native populace, adding another insult to the Sioux.

You should watch Scott Horton's Enough Already playlist. It's about the US's terrorism wars and how they connect to each other and what really happened. The book is a must read.

In highschool history in the US you learn everything major that happened, from some of the first Civilizations to all major wars including the Civil War and the revolutionary War in slightly more detailed chunks but overall all history is told in chunks some heftier than other's but the Civil and revolutionary Wars are given more time than other conflicts except for the world wars

Oh and I remember being taught like important events in Europe. But like in one paragraph, nothing in depth. And many I'm sure we weren't taught. Like ww2, were taught the bullet points of early ww2, but we don't go in depth until we entered in. Most countries don't teach history that's unflattering to themselves or battles lost. And generally only events they were involved with. Except maybe Germany who are open in teaching hitler and nazis ect. And it's students must visit a concentration camp before they graduate. That's awesome, I don't think any other country is that open of its bsd history. America would as soon love its history with native Americans and war in Vietnam to disappear.

alright (prepare for a rant) so the brittish werent reallly defeatedas you can see they were winning the war having only send in a small ercentage of their military might and then they did suffer a bit of an american comeback i agree but then remeber the americans were fighting with all their might and brittain had just send some bois and the american colonies simply werent important enoughfor brittain to send more troops as at this time they were realy busy with qoncuering india and bullying chinai nto trade deals while also fighting in parts of africa and against the ottomans they could send half amillion troops but really they didnt care america wasnt profiteble enough for that and they already hadlots of power i nthe region in the form of brittish canadian colonies so it really wasnt such a big deal for the brittish as the americans think it waas

If OUR colonies had just payed us bk from protecting them for the french all the taxes would of been avoided but they wouldnt pay! Ive even heard so many americans agree that we had every right to tax them!

We didn’t need protection from France until Great Britain started a war, also how did Great Britain gain so much territory if they were just “protecting”? Also we had no representatives in parliament. USA protects Puerto Rico but doesn’t tax them because they can’t vote.
