The worst part about TASM 1 is there was a bunch of deleted scenes which really improved the film, including a few that better developed Conners/Lizard as a villain, like him giving his condolences to Peter after Ben's Death and transforming back in the school so Peter has to save him from Police by bringing him into the sewers, compared to the finished film where Peter just follows him down into the sewer

7:59 this bit was almost great. Peter blindly catching a football and then casually launching it down the field while kissing Gwen is a really fun idea for a scene, except then someone was like “what if the ball dents the goalpost” and that just ruins it. It’s too much, adds nothing that wasn’t already there, and breaks suspension of disbelief

The love story between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy was one of the few good things about this movies. Maybe the second costume and some swinging sequences as well, but that’s about it!

I find it interesting that people enjoy their romance so much. I personally think it’s the weakest part of both movies. Uninteresting. Googoo gaga kissy face talk. I think it takes up space unnecessarily. I think it drags the story to a crawl. And i don’t enjoy their on screen chemistry it’s always given me the ick. Also you just can’t do Gwen Stacey anymore. No one’s invested in a character they’re waiting to watch brutally die to further the protagonists arc.

I am once again on my knees, begging for the fifth element caravan of garbage!!

The original clip you guys did from the review of the movie where Maso reenacts the bit where Peter realizes who the lizard is, is what got me onto your podcast.

I think these movies would have been better off keeping a loose continuity with the Raimi films. Change the visual style, swap out the actors, and introduce new villains but don't re-do anything those movies did. Ya'know like how they do in the comic books.

In retrospect, in my one attempt to watch the movie I think I turned it off precisely after the "your father believed that power was great, but doing great things for others is more great, and if you're great enough to have power that's great, but it's you're moral responsibility to be grateful for your great power and use it responsibly!" part.

Knowing how much Andrew Garfield genuinely cared and knew about Peter and what his origin symbolized, it's so hard to watch the deleted scene with Richard Parker returning. Like, good God, the pain is real in his face. He is driving a truck into a wall and knows it, but still gives it his all. His rage and denial is palpable though.

Ah, my favourite duology of totally fine Spiderman movies.

My favorite part (other than the electric chemistry between the leads) was the scene where Spider-Man makes an actual web trigger matrix in the sewers. Ya know, like a real spider would do. Great

The chemistry between Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield and the romance between their characters is well done and I was actually invested in their relationship. And Gwen's passing did bring tears. Its a very flawed movie. But I enjoyed it for what it was. Not the best, nor good but the actors did great.

Well I absolutely loathed TASM2 when I saw it in theaters. It did teach me what bad editing was so I am grateful to it for that.

An ad came in at 19:37 so it sounded like this “Avi arad’s like - there comes a time in a creator’s life where they have an idea. I have an idea for a t-shirt! I have an idea for a coffee mug! I have an idea for a poster!” That’s the most Avi Arad thing I can’t even explain

This reportedly made Kevin Feige very sad, or blue you could say, resulting in the working title for this movie to be called Blue Harvest which was also the working title for the original star wars movie.

Aunt May's breakdown scene was very good

Andrew Garfield, of the three live action, was the best “in the suit” Spider-Man, his quipping and jokes were perfect for the character

Sympathy for Andrew's performance for spidey is not the same as sympathy for this series. The whole point is that he should've got a better shot at playing spidey BECAUSE these movies aren't good.

Fun fact; Most people would agree that Pete realizing that he could have stopped the guy who killed Uncle Ben is a pretty big part of the big 'power-responsibility' bit. In the tie in video game for the second movie, one of the first missions you do is tracking the guy who killed Uncle Ben, and it's heavily implied that Peter wants to kill him when he finds him. Of course, the guy runs into an alley and is then killed by Cletus Cassidy. This version of Spidey didn't get a way to reach that conclusion in almost any version of the character and I find it, personally, to be one of the biggest reasons why I don't love this interpretation.

He obviously does realize he could've stopped that guy: How else would he know exactly what the guy looked like? (Did you seriously think it was just a coincidence that he was looking for a guy who looked exactly like the man he was looking RIGHT AT in the convinence store?) Are you one of those people that have to have really obvious plot points pointed out to them? Not to mention: Uncle Ben getting shot happens almost immediately after Peter let's him go. It's not really a mystery of who shot him the way it is in the Raimi movies.

If he doesn't, and just goes his whole career wanting to kill that guy, it undermines the character.

What's funny is they say we hope No way home doesn't have funeral scene near the ending (it was done before 2021) but it HAS 😂

Here's an idea for your Caravan of Garbage-es - I just rewatched the Die Hard commentary and it occured to me that I don't think I've ever seen you guys focus on actors, just on franchises or movie themes. I'd love to see a Schwartzenegger series (e.g. Conan, Commando, Terminator, True Lies, etc...), or a Stallone series (Rocky, Rambo, Demolition Man, etc)... or a Van Damme series (e.g. Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Universal Soldier, etc), or even folks like Corey Feldman (e.g. Stand By Me, The Lost boys, Goonies, etc.) I think there's some longevity in a focus on an actor's career.

I know who the real fans are every January when we all collectively listen to and leave a like on the same shit we already heard 17 times.

I can't wait for the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters cog compilation that will inevitably in a few years

Andrew's performance in the 2nd one when Gwen dies is amazing, and even more amazing when he is in No Way Home and talks about the after effects.

Something that I rarely hear people talk about is the music for these two movies. The intro of TASM 2 to me still the best Spiderman theme that perfectly encapsulates the hope and optimism that you can only find with Spiderman.

The lizard in the original comic was flat face. Was like a green thimble on shoulders. So they actually made this comic accurate. But I agree, I like snouty 90s cartoon lizard.

My favorite line in the amazing Spider-Man is when the lizard says “I’m the lizard king, I can do anything” and then lizards all over the ground

12:00 - So in the novelization of Spider-Man 2, the Tobey Maguire suit was explained as that wrestler getting carried away on a stretcher in the first movie screaming about how he can't feel his legs apparently hooked Spidey up with a guy who makes costumes for wrestlers.

i haven't watched this movie since it came out, but the thing that i remember thinking when i first watched it was that the lizard was essentially right-- iirc, he explains that turning everyone into a lizard will make them smarter, stronger, faster, and regenerative. the only real downside is that they're ugly scaly people. they're like weirdly berzerked towards all non-lizard-people, but his plan is to turn everyone into a lizard anyway

Legit listened to the Raimi trilogy CoB earlier tonight.

I like these movies overall. They needed editing bad, but there is 2 1/2 good movies in there somewhere. My favorite part was bring in Spiderman's snark which was left out of the original trilogy. Maybe Gwen's death could have been directly related to Spiderman wasting time cracking jokes and showing off, so the final scene he shows up and just downs the Rhino in seconds and walks away without saying anything. Third movie second story line could be meeting Mary Jane and her helping him get back to a place where he is happy.

You're wrong - there is no such contractual obligation It is sadly just poor and uninspired writing There has been mild "studio pressure" to do so but not any obligation (The kind of pressure akin to "Hey, how about this?" - more of a "suggestion" than actual pressure)
