From Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire to The Lighthouse to Batman, Robert Pattinson has carved out a career as an actor that's very unique. Going from the teen idol of Twilight to the star of Chris Nolan's next film. In this video I try to look at his movies in-depth and talk about what has changed through the years.

If it's successful, he'll be the face of that franchise and that comes with its own issues. Robert Downey jr, for instance, has done barely any movies outside of Avengers stuff in the 11 years since he became Iron Man. The only good one he did in that time was Tropic Thunder (Sherlock was alright, I guess). In the 10 years before Iron Man, he was in movies like Bowfinger, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Goodnight & Good Luck, A Scanner Darkly, and Zodiac (and of course the masterpiece that is, The Shaggy Dog). I'd say that's quite a drop off in "good" movies. I just hope that doesn't happen with Pattinson.

Yeah those people, in my opinion are part of the problem. They refuse to watch good films out of their comfort zone (like Good Time, High Life, and especially The Lighthouse) so they dismiss it only because of Twilight, which Pattinson infamously hated with a passion. I honestly think his performance as Batman will be a walk in the park in comparison to his performances in the aforementioned. What I'm most excited for, however, is Paul Dano as the Riddler. THAT is a brilliant casting choice if I've ever seen one! That man not only looks the part, but he has not had one bad performance! He was honestly incredible even compared to Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood. Also excited for Matt Reeves as the director, since he's made some really solid movies with the second and third Planet of the Apes reboot movies even though I stand by the opinion that Cloverfield is overrated.

It makes sense that a lot of people want to see Batman as a more complex character and its easy to be influenced by the comics that intended to be about the psychological aspects of their characters and not just another "hero saving the day" type of story. I think its really hard to tell the most accurate representation of his character... I mean. Im not a big comic book fan but Im aware the character changed a lot since the 40's and the he was written back then may differ from (or even contradicts) what the character has become now. And honestly, the same happens with Joker. We see mostly in the movies like Batman TDK and the new Joker movie. They added philosophical aspect to make the character feel complex and even relatable at some level and make it less about hero vs villain and more about different perspective clashing against each other. It just makes thing more interesting and adds some depth to the characters. Even if it means a not-so-accurate representation of the character, that again, is already hard to define.

Hans Michael Fanunal Yes, which means every superhero and villain in the comics is psycho for wearing underwear outside their pants, super tight spandex, capes, and masks that only cover half or less of their face sometimes. Of course this is malarkey. Batman has only been viewed as a slightly unhinged character due to his childhood trauma, but when you look at his external appearance and performance as Bruce Wayne or the Dark Knight, you’ll see that he is professional, classy and even a little bit meek with a more subtlety placed on his confidence. Whereas the Dark Knight is essentially the same but for removing the meekness, bringing the confidence fully out and giving his attributes a darker edge. This is the character. Where we see conflict with Batman is when he is pitted against a particularly psychological villain, like the Joker or Penguin. Pattinson will be able to play on all of this perfectly. I just hope that CGI will be minimal and instead just see some good lighting and angles on the set. And yes. The script will determine the success or failure of the film

what sucks is that twilight was loved by young girls, and written by a woman, so then most men (and the women who like to look edgy to appeal to these men) instead of ignoring the whole thing, started to act like a bunch of 14 year olds bullying a younger girl to seem manly to their own friends, saying that everything those girls like is shit and their own stuff is much better. Doesn't help that those teen girls thought that the guys on the movies looked good, that's even worse for some male egos. The movies and the books themselves aren't that great but they managed to appeal to teenagers the way they were intended to, but since their audiences were mostly girls, everyone decided it was the worst movie ever. Now, if it was appealing to white dudes, no one would bat an eye about Pattinson being Batman.

People are a little confused by Rob's taking such high profile roles in Tenet and Batman. He isn't doing it for the money. His next film after Batman is another indie with his High Life director, Claire Denis. He's doing 2 high profile movies because it will make it easier to raise money for the indies he wants to make. He's been riding on his Twilight fame and name recognition since 2008. He needed to prove he could be in a big box office hit and raise his profile to keep his indies funded. The best part is, he views both Nolan and Reeves as art house directors who have convinced the studios to let them make their auteur films with a big budget. So he isn't selling out or going Hollywood. He's still an indie artist at heart and he always will be. I can't wait for him to work with Robert Eggers again.

She's a high school girl who just wants to have sex with a vampire who could kill her, and then when he finally agrees to marry her, she doesn't want to go to college or continue to grow as a person, she just wants to be turned into a vampire so she doesn't look older than Edward. How shallow and vain can you get? She's a horrible role model and he's a controlling creeper. That's why people didn't like it. Rob didn't even like it. He said Edward was a psycho and I'm sure he thought Bella was stupid. She was stupid, she kept doing dumb things after being told over and over not to do them. To answer your question - if Pattinson is still seeking out roles in low-budget films like Good Time - I can say that it seems like he is. I have a rumor I'd like to share with the public. I'm an actress and director associated with the New Jersey indie film scene. My good friend, Chris, and a man he knows named Arthur made a low-budget short film last year called "Slow Burn." It's a thriller about two plumbers who decide to kill and rob a rich man they're working for, and, kind of like The Lighthouse, one goes crazy. I was one of the few who got to see the short in its early stages, and I can tell you it's incredible. When I saw the rough cut on Chris's computer, he told me that before Arthur moved to NJ, he had connections with people from California. Time passed, and Chris didn't hear from Arthur for a while. Then one day, they reconnected. Chris told me at a restaurant that Arthur revealed Robert Pattinson had seen "Slow Burn" and loved it. (Chris showed me Arthur's texts as proof.) Rob saw the film through a mutual friend him and Arthur share in Cali. Arthur then texted that Robert reached out to him about a feature he wrote: a heist film set in NJ. Arthur sent him the screenplay, and Rob apparently agreed to read it, saying he'd consider it if he had time after shooting the Nolan film. (Arthur said his goal is to get Jake Gyllenhaal and Dakota Fanning in the movie if Rob agrees, as they are good friends of his.) NOW...again, it's all technically a rumor to me. But if there's one thing I know from Rob's decision to work with the Safdie Bros., it's that he cares about good stories and good characters. Apparently, he is a huge cinephile. That's why I respect Robert Pattinson: no matter how big he gets, he still cares about the little guys and understands that a low-budget story can be just as good as a big-budget one.

I'm going to say it. . . . I love Twilight. Is the relationship terrible? Yes. Is Bella as bland as a turnip in 1% milk? Yes. Does Edward need to chill? Absolutely. Are sparkly vampires stupid? I have yet to decide. It was also so funny and so quotable. Watch the first movie. It's a camp classic in many ways. Remember when Eddie boy gets out of the car in cloudy ass weather, pulling a James Dean in sunglasses vibe when he and Bella go to school?( Cuz he's going to hell anyway, am I right?) Remember that shiny Volvo swerving like in a car commercial to save Bella from rapists? (It was quite a maneuver.) Perhaps, you remember the apple bounce? (It matched the book cover. The Bible, anyone? Subtlety, anyone?) OR THE VAMPIRE BASEBALL SCENE? JASPER TWIRLED THAT MOTHERFUDGIN BAT LIKE A BABE! The soundtrack is also bitchin, just straight on bitchin. Back to Mr. Pattinson. Anywho, Robert Pattinson delivered. He did everything that was asked of him. Edward in the books matched wonderfully with his movie counterpart, which is why everyone thinks he wasn't good because Edward is kinda an asshole. Well, not kinda. He is an asshole which Robert Pattinson understood. He performed seriously which honestly made the films so much better because it added to the humor. The man is a very talented actor. He will make an excellent Batman. Everyone who has enjoyed Twilight already knew that but so many people take their misguided hate and project onto his whole career, which is ridiculous. Name one actor who hasn't done a bad film. It's basically a rite of passage. Look at Movie 43, for instance. Kate Winslet is in that movie. Naomi Watts. Julianne Moore. Hugh Jackman. It's hysterical. So, yeah. Good actors do bad movies. I love Twilight. I don't mind if others hate it, but don't let that cloud your judgement on RPatz because he's bitchin.

I appreciate Rob’s hard work. Both in overcoming the Twilight hate, and in mastering and exploring his acting skills. I admire people who pursue what they love and don’t give up in spite of difficulties, change their plan and better themselves. Can’t wait to watch the Lighthouse.

In reference to casting Pattinson as Edgar in Twilight: "For it to work at all, Patton needed to convince us that Edward could be this soulful loving guy but also carefully balance the idea that he's capable of snapping into violence at any second." Sounds like you're describing Bruce Wayne/Batman.

I actually never thought of him as a bad actor. I knew when I casually watched the twilight series, I thought that Robert Pattinson kind of got better and better through each movie and that he got potential to star in bigger productions such as Tenet (HE PLAYED GREAT!!!) I think actors who star in teen movies or romance movies, have a hard time to get off that image, so I'm glad he starred in indie movies and kind of got under radar, while doing his indie stuff. I'm also 100% sure he will do a great job as the new batman.

Robert Pattinson is an excellent actor of this day and age. All his roles have a sense of purpose. No two roles are the same. Every character he played has depth and meaning. His choice of films just proves he can play any character.

Honestly, I'd like to see Pattinson explore one of the more chilling aspects of Batman. Because while Bruce Wayne may be a hero and an overall good person, he's also a guy who's always playing everyone around him, who has little problem manipulating whoever he needs to to achieve his goals, even is those goals are mostly for the greater good. I mean, in the Injustice universe, he inserted Cyborg with a virus capable of disabling most of his systems the very first time he met him. It's an aspect of Batman that I think has never been properly explored and I think Pattinson might be the perfect guy to pull it off. Dick Grayson and Barbra Gorgon would probably be good candidates and it would work as a way to introduce them to the DCEU.

The Rover should be up there with his best performances. He completely disappeared into the role as the simple-minded, guileless Eric. At the time, it was Rob’s furthest departure from the sparkly clean, well-spoken brooding vampire intellectual. Audiences were given a first taste of the chameleon-like talents he possesses.

I used to hate Robert Pattinson growing up. I was a teen during the Twilight era and my twin sister made sure I had every reason to hate this actor. But after I saw him in Lost City of Z (one of my all time favorites) I fell in love with him. I watched the Harry Potter movies as an adult because of him and he played the priest in The Devil All The Time so friggin well. He was great in the Lighthouse as well. I can't wait to see what movies he will do in the future, I love this guy.
