The Amazing Beverly "Guitar" Watkins Performs at "Blues at the Crossroads", Salina, Kansas

79 year old Beverly "Guitar" Watkins, unknown to most in the audience, puts on a fiery, funky and fierce standing ovation hour-long performance on the first night of Chad Kassem's "Blues at the Crossroads" Blues Festival Friday October 26th.
The Atlanta, Georgia native has had a long, productive career including two successful singles "Dr. Feelgood" and "Right String But the Wrong Yo-You" as a member of Piano Red and the Houserockers. A later group in which she played included Roy Lee Johnson, who composed "Mr. Moonlight" later popularized by The Beatles. You'll hear Ms. Watkins cover a very similar sounding tune in this incredible set.
She's also worked with James Brown, B.B. King and Ray Charles and remains active. Watch her amazing performance here and remember she's 79 years young! While she plays much of it sitting down, when she stands and plays with the guitar behind her back you may find yourself standing and cheering while watching this on your computer. Everyone in the audience did that too.
AnalogPlanet editor Michael Fremer encountered Ms. Watkins in the hotel dining room the next morning and asked how at 79 her hands remain so supple and her rhythmic drive and musical inventiveness remain so fresh. "You gotta find Jesus" she replied with the absolute certainty that displayed on stage the previous evening.

So very sorry for your loss. She will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have been graced by her gift. I wonder if Steve Harvey know's she passed? Thank you for posting this. If only a few hear this, there will be a few truley blessed today. RIP Beverly...
Wow! I don’t mind admitting that I wept when she jumped out of her chair, descended the stairs, and played the most divine and subtle solo you could wish for. What a fantastic musician and beautiful woman.

I can't believe this lady was not rich and famous. Something is wrong in this world when I didn't even know she existed until 2 months after her death. If Chet Atkins was producing her music in 1959 when I was 7 years old she should have been FAMOUS when I was growing up. What the hell happened. She is wonderful.

I went to "Profiles of Positive Living Image Awards Gala" 11/15/2018 with three white roses to honor her dedication to performing REAL blues. Ms. Watkins was in the hospital so let's pray this wonderful is not done.
I can't believe that I'm just now hearing about this amazing woman!! A buddy of mine actually told me about her today, so I had see what's going on. I wonder if Eric Clapton ever had her at any of the Crossroads Guitar Festivals?! She's as Genuine as she can be!!!

@Analog Planet...Thanks for posting...I've watched this back to back 3 times. Just wanted to clarify the title to one of the singles you mention...I believe it was called Miz Dr Feelgood when she did her version after the breakup of Piano Red and the Meter-tones in the mid 60s.
