The ALL NEW Camp Chef Gridiron - Full Review, Bread Test, Temp Checks, and Seasoning!

There have been tons of people asking for a Camp Chef Gridiron review, so here it is! In this video, we’ll look at all of the many features of the new Camp Chef 36” griddle, and we’ll go over whether or not to season it before cooking on it (this griddle comes pre-seasoned from the manufacturer). And of course, we’ll do my popular bread test and talk about the temperatures on the griddle.
Fun Fact - The first outdoor griddle that I ever owned was a Camp Chef griddle, so getting the new Camp Chef Gridiron on the back deck feels like a “full circle” moment. And it’s easy to see that Camp Chef redesigned their griddle from the ground up to include tons of new features and to address some common problems that griddle owners deal with.
How will the griddle perform? You’ll have to keep watching to see as we cook on it and get more experience with this new Camp Chef griddle, but at first look, it seems like the folks at Camp Chef thought of everything.

I've always wondered when they would release something with the new griddles that have popped up and making their original "out dated". I'm sure they've watched your videos and utilized their R and D department wisely with this new release. It was because of your channel many years ago that I purchased my camp chef griddle and I still use it to date. Hope to see more reviews from you as you continue to use this one. Thank you for the review.. I was waiting on it to hopefully finalize decision on new griddle. I think I am leaning toward the Weber Slate 36 as quality of the box, led, shelves etc is important here in Florida and ability to withstand the elements. I pulled up KZread and here was my first recommendation. I hadn't heard of this one before, but after this I think I'm getting it! Two Christmases ago my wife bought me the Outdoor Gourmet 36" (Acedemy brand). I've never been fond of it. It rusts in 2.3 seconds no matter how much or how well you season it. It also has a grease tray that runs the entire length of the front edge and goes into another tray that slides onto the left shelf. If you turn all four burners on low, in 10-15 minutes you're pushing 500°. I can't stand that there is no "low". You have to be extremely fast, or heat it up and then turn everything off to cook. If low stays less than 300° on this thing I'm in! Better temperature control, better grease trap, better accessories, and all that for only $100 more?! I'm in. I really appreciate this review!

I have noticed camp chef is pretty thoughtful. They make a product and listen to feedback and then make the changes needed. Awesome customer service too. My pellet smoker had a small ding that chipped the paint. It came out of the box that way and I didn't notice it until I had fully assembled it. I contacted their customer service and after looking at the pictures they decided that it would not affect the use of the product. They gave me two choices. I could go get a bottle of black grill paint and sand that area down and spray some paint on it and they would give me a $300 credit to my account or I could box it up and send it back and they would send me a brand new one.. I decided it was not worth the trouble to send it back if it wasn't going to affect anything. So I took the $300. Is good customer service and they have good products

My first thought was a lot of positive features. I was curious about the lid. They all seem to have that flaw with the heat. I was curious if a smoke/vent type stack would make a difference. Looking forward to how it handles cooking on it. A couple other notes: The first being Utah. I follow The Retirement Nerds" and actually talk back and forth on his channel. He is located in Utah. Of course that also shows you have followers from the 20's to Medicare eligible which is a good thing. The second note is well when you said stale bread the light bulb went off and I told myself that is in no way "Evangeline Bread" which is the number one bread in my state for good reason. Maybe it was Bunny Bread or Sunbeam Bread. I could see that going stale lol. Great Video!

Coming in @ the 500 mark, I think it’s a pretty solid bang for the buck. Can’t wait to see the breakfast cook on this 1. And i agree with the front grease management system with the oversize capacity “bucket”, it can be a game changer compared to my 4 burner Blackstone with the smaller rectangular cup that I have to push grease to the back and over the hot griddle/constantly monitor. Hey bud...so like most things...I only have so much space...each year co come out with more griddles and we try them out...at the time Yes I did like the Halo...and still rank it either 2 or 3 based on the dish or individual....we got rid of it to make room for others this year...i kept the traeger because it was and still my favorite....

This is the comment I’ve been looking for!! Thanks guys. First I was debating w Blackstone. Then debated the new gridiron camp chef vs the original camp chef flat top 600. I’m just concerned on the quality. Gridiron vs 600. Yes everything may be an upgrade on gridiron but is it truly an “upgrade”? (Pricing on the 600 is more expensive than the new gridiron.) Makes me question…why? Is the Gridiron made to be a product to just sell sell sell like the black stone? I’m wanting something w great quality that will last. Based on price is the original flat top 600 just better quality? @Flat Top King would love your input now that you have both.

Hey Neal, loving your comparison videos, I just watched this one as well as the head to head one you did about a year ago with the Traeger, Blackstone and Weber griddles. I've kinda been eyeballin' a Blackstone for a while now but after watching the head to head I'm thinking Traeger. now that you've thrown this one into the mix though which would you say you think is overall better between the two? I really appreciate your educated, informed and down to earth opinions and thoughts on these things, please keep up the good work!

Yeah still traeger as of today...but this Camp Chef is a direct rival to any Blackstone...it was on sale for 450 so that helps with some of the people who dont or do not want to spend a ton of money...I do think there is a gap in performance...but also 3-400 more...

Great first impression, but is it enough to become your daily driver? Only time will tell I suppose, and I'll be waiting patiently for your comparison with the Treager. The Gridirion does seem to have great value no question, and it has some really interesting, well thought out designs. One minor gripe is it definitely looks like a fingerprint magnet with the matte black, but I imagine it won’t potentially chip like the Flatrock. To be fair I’m not really sure what to think after watching this, lol. Nothing is perfect but I think I still like the Flatrock a little more. I’m just not sure if it’s worth paying 300 more though. As always I appreciate your thoughts.

I can purchase the older unit for $430. The new gridiron is on sale for Father’s Day for $449. I do have the camp chef pizza oven that goes on top of the older unit, but I’m sure I can make it fit on the new unit as well. What is your recommendation between the two units now that you reviewed both? Thanks. Great video. Also, I looked on camp chefs. Damn, $499 is pretty good. I thought I got a great deal on the ftg600 with the grill grates, on a sale for $400 (from $600), but retail for $500 and the new features is nice. I like that the low temp holds... that's the big thing with the 600 (and my 2 burner explorer for camping/tailgating), is that even on low it keeps rising. I have to be vigilant if I'm doing something that requires lower temps.

Since you and I started with the FTG 600 about 4 years ago, the griddle world has REALLY changed. It took CC longer than I thought to come out with an upgraded unit, but it looks like they did a really good job. And for the price? It's a wicked good bargain. Quick question about the "guaranteed light" burners............thinking back a couple years.......are they Amy proof? (I'm terrible aren't I?) People who don't know what they don't know will probably jump to negative conclusions on the low temp setting performance, I'm impressed with how low the temp stays on the lowest setting, lot's of versatility added for the experienced griddler. When you did the toast test it sounded like there was a bit of wind. Was it blowing from the side that came out lighter than expected? Even with those minimum sized 3 vents, I would imagine the flame would get disrupted some.

Hi there, I had a couple of questions. Does the flat top come off like the previous version so you can also bbq grill on it? Also, when you showed the grease trap, is there like a chute or something guiding the grease or is it dropping straight into the bucket? It looks like the hole for the grease is far forward and the trap is in the middle underneath. If there is a chute or something, won't food and grease be stuck on there and potentially cause the grease to fall down? Thank you

When you unpack it, don’t think there are missing hardware packets, they are numbered to match the assembly steps. Some steps don’t involve hardware. Not wrong...thats a long answer...i have nothing but problems out of all 3 of my blackstones...rusting and always having to resurface and re season the griddle...typically not having the even heat or low heat either...so that moves it down the list...then weber came out...then traeger then camp chef updated theirs Traeger is still my number one... Weber is extremely close to 2nd... For the price of 499...i think the Camp Chef is better than the competition at that price range...will take some time to really cook on it and Weber to compare...
