Ive tried a few different systems. Kasa gets it on 3 levels. 1: cost effective, 2 : ease of use with reliable app that works, multiple devices for different needs such as a full array of switch variations and even basic switched "plug in " type outlet .

Thanks for your timely review! We're remodeling a bathroom, so I'll be getting this switch to control the vanity lights. One Kasa feature you didn't highlight: If you want, the app will lead you step-by-step through the installation process. I bought a Kasa smart dimmer switch. I had never done any wiring and was uncertain (neutral wire? whazzat?) but I decided to try the app's "Wiring for Dummies" feature. It really is idiot-proof. I bought a $10 voltage detector as they recommended, and installation was easy. Now I can use Alexa to control the sconces by my bed without walking across the room to the switch.

Just went through several ES20M switches - NO MOTION DETECTION! If your motion detection isn't working follow these steps: 1. Remove the device from your Kasa app, 2. hold down the reset button found on the front bottom of the switch for about 10 seconds to reset the switch, and then 3. re-add the switch to the Kasa app and motion should now work. Did this multiple times today after talking to TP-Link support.

Motion switches have been around a long time for turning a light on and off. Remember those annoying floodlights outside that use to get stuck on during the day :) The thing smart devices can do is have different schedules, so if you get up in the middle of the night, the light can come on dim and not blind everyone, can be bright during the day when you need extra light and if it has a humidity sensor can turn on the fan. That's when things just start getting smart. Anything less is just a glorified remote control.

Do I only need 1 of these dimmers and link them in the app to the other smart switches (already installed) or do I need 3x of these dimmers? Nice thorough, quick review of Kasa motion sensor. (Subscribed!) I see Kasa is sold with a thicker (or deep) cover plate and you replaced it with a double plate that is deep. • @TechWithBrett

That's a good question. Are you doing this with a similar fan or a ceiling fan? I haven't tried linking separate light circuits to one switch so I'm not sure how that operates. If you are trying it with a light/ceiling fan combo you might run into some issues with the dimmer. There is a model without dimming that might work better.

@@TechWithBrett I was thinking that you have yours installed in the bathroom and you most likely have an exhaust fan switch in the same gang plate. Since the exhaust fan is not a variable switch, I wonder what would happen if you just put it in the same load line with the light. Theoretically when the light comes on from the motion detector, then the exhaust fan would go on too.

I am using a TP-link Motion activated dimmer switch KS220M, ES20M in my bathroom. I would like to set up a routine using my Alexa Voice activation to communicate through the switch using the word “shower”. What I would like the routine to do is when I am ready to take a shower, I would like for the light to stay on for at least 15 minutes or longer. When I'm in the shower the light keeps going out after one minute, and I must constantly wave my hands to trigger the motion detector to get the light to turn back on while I am in the shower. Is there a way that I can create a routine to trigger the light for the light to stay on while I am in the shower for at least 15 minutes or longer. I am also using a Smart Things controller as well as Alexa.

Samsung has discontinued their SmartThings hub. Although, the Aeotec Hub is essentially the same product. It is able to connect with zigbee and zwave devices, and use the SmartThings app. I have been using it for two months and I love the reliability, and the ability to work with different devices like the ikea tradfri button which is very cheap. The smartthings app is also very easy to use, and you are able to add wifi compatible devices with it if you already have a few to create automations completely in the app. Also, it works with google and Alexa, so whatever devices you add, you can control via Alexa or Google Assistant. Overall, I think it is a great hub.

no but there is a work around... If your switch wire has a ground wire with it you can in fact tag off to the ground with the neutral and if the ground is truly grounded back to panel it will work just fine. Not recommended of course but will in fact work in a pinch. The good thing is that the smart switch uses very little power to operate so theres really no threat .WOULDNT RECOMMEND on an average install but if theres no other option it will in fact work reliably.

I don't like how these lights automatically go off in like 30 secs. I'll be cooking in the kitchen and it just turns off. There is no way you can edit settings

Do you have them connected in the Kasa app? You need to go to the Smart Control Settings and adjust the time when they are on for longer while it is cool time.

We are all sinners in need of a savior. You may reject it but it's the truth, God exists, our consience proves it. Jesus Christ suffered in your place for your sins so that you could be forgiven and have everlasting life. You can only obtain everlasting life if you put all your trust in the only one that can save you. You have free will so if you wake up in hell one day, don't blame God. Repent from your unbelief and trust in Jesus Christ as your lord and savior.
