And actions speak louder than words. When she was jealous of Sara, and when she was upset when he told her she could leave him, it was so clear that she did not like that answer. And the next time it shows her after this scene, you can tell she is so in love, and happy!

What I love about this scene--besides tremendous acting on both their parts--is that it is not really about lust. It is about having that connection between two people. Both of these characters have been rejected by society their entire lives. They crave touch, sure, but they long for love. The ability to be vulnerable with someone. To be seen and accepted as they are. Without judgement or rejection. They are clearly apprehensive but their connection is stronger than their fear.

I love how they kept in Daniel's loud breathing because it made the scene feel so real

I love how nervous he was and the director left the loud breathing. The kiss has sound! That's so cute. Even more bc Mary can't speak. But she can make the "love sounds"

I have literally watched this 12 times lol....everything about this scene is so real and the chemistry between them is so tangible. Beautiful scene

His serius face...breathing...gives the power to the scene. Great actors...We missed Mary in the second season 😢

Best The alienist’s moments for me: The way that Dr. Laszlo keeps looking at Mary while she's in the kitchen; when he says to her that she's free to follow her life alone and she gets angry with him; when he invited her to having dinner with him and when she approaches to dinner room, he gives a little smile… It was so little cute! The dinner scene was best ever for me! It was so sweet and romantic... So beautiful! When he touches Mary’s hand, It’s even possible to hear his deep breath. I was speechless! Daniel was amazing on the scene and Q'orianka was awesome, even hasnt said any word! The whole dinner scene was wonderful!!! I loved it!!!

Was literally about to cry when I saw this, couldn’t wait for this to happen

It's SO unfair that she died! I hated that part. She tried so hard to defend her family, and I was like, "Mary, no!" She didn't deserve that at all. She was such a sweet person and they all loved her. She was so much more than a servant. She was their family.

I am not sure if romance really is a word here. It's more like Laszlo realizing he is alone, after his friend made that comment. I doubt Laszlo is romantically interested in Mary, that seems a bit out of character, although we know very little about their former relationship.

I think romance is exactly the word here. Laszlo has been openly pining for Mary the entire season. I do think that John's comment gave him the kick in the pants he needed to initiate things with Mary. But there's no doubt in my mind that Laszlo has been in love with Mary the entire time. Vice Versa. The showrunners and Daniel have said as much also.

I doubt it. Very little of their relationship is shown to make a claim like that. I am pretty sure Laszlo had more scenes with Sara than with Mary. It's true that Mary seems to have an obsession with him, but we see very little romantic emotional moments from Laszlo. ...and honestly, why would Laszlo love Mary?
