The Alien franchise has been something of a mystery to me for a long time. I had seen a few of the films, out of order, so I’d recognize something in one film and say “I think that’s from another film in this franchise, but I’d end up being wrong about the timeline and that movie actually happened after, so after all this confusion I sat down and actually watched through all of these films. I now have a concrete understanding of the ins and outs of the Alien franchise, the order of them all, and even the theories of what comes next.

The cat aspect nearly cost Sigorney her role. It was played by several cats trained specifically for their stunts and was very costly. She showed some signs of serious allergy to them and later stated she knew if it came between her and the cats, they would have chosen her to recast. They were not about to eat the cost already sunk into them and rewrite the script for that so she was grateful to learn it wasn't the cats that she was actually allergic to. Apparently it was a combination of the glycerin they used to immate sweat along with the cat hair. Once they stopped using the glycerin, her skin reaction died down and she was fine filming with them.

Mistakes about Aliens: -Ripley was in cryosleep for 50 years -the planet is the same planet. While Ripley was in Cryosee, the company built a colony on that planet -watch the director's cut. Ripley learns her daughter grew , lived a long life, and died. Also, after she tells the company execs oncwhat happened to the Nostromo, Burke contacts the colony and asks them to check out the nest. That's how the aluens killed the ehole colony

Regarding Aliens: The reason why she agrees to go back to lv426 is NOT the prospect of getting her job back. The reason is to face her post-traumatic stress disorder (she has nightmares constantly), hence the midnight call to Burke. She agrees to come if they destroy the alien(s).

He got several aspects wrong on Aliens. First off a Salvage Ship finds Ripley and brings her back to the base. Second- It IS the same planet, LV-426 from Alien. Ripley’s take of the xeno is what motivates the WY Corp to send someone to look for the derelict ship and what they find is death. When the colony stops transmitting is when they decide to send the Colonial Marines and Ripley as a guide. There were more errors but I pretty much lost my will to listen to much more.

Everyone always criticises the 'prometheus academy of running away', but rapace's character DOES go to the side, and nearly gets crushed when the ship falls to the side. I blame the huge amount of memeing on this scene mostly on the editing, there are sooo many cuts in that running scene. I've been watching alien and aliens for longer than I can remember, it was interesting to hear a kind of 'first viewing ' perspective on them, and I learned some bts things I didn't know! 👍

One of the greatest missed opportunities in the Alien franchise is Weyland-Yutani. "The Company" is the over-arching background antagonist in the entire franchise. The original trilogy seems to be building to some kind of confrontation with Weyland-Yutani but they seem to go a different direction for no logical reason in the third act. That script literally writes itself given what we see in the first two films. Seeing the results of a military-industrial complex taken to extreme limits is as terrifying as the creatures. Moreover, the concept of "they've been here all along" beautifully ties together the Alien and Predator franchises via the first Alien V Predator film. In many ways, the creatures and Weyland-Yutani are EXACTLY alike......

I always go back and forth whether I like Alien or Aliens more. Alien is definitely a master when it comes to suspense and it absolutely clears when it comes to the Sci-Fi/Horror elements, meanwhile Aliens in my opinion has stronger and more likable characters like Hicks, Bishop, and Newt. I really love those first two films and can't decide which one I like over the other. When it comes to Alien 3 I prefer the Assembly cut since it fills in a lot of the plot holes. Also killing off Hicks and Newt in the opening still leaves a sour taste in my mouth, and what they should've done is maybe have Ripley's pod be completely separated from the Sulaco. Despite those complaints I think the Assembly cut of Alien 3 is kind of underrated. Alien Resurrection was a guilty pleasure of mine when I first watched it, but it is absolute dog water, and I probably won't watch it again. I really like Prometheus and Michael Fassbender is absolutely amazing as David. Also speaking of Prometheus, the film was titled "Alien: Engineers", and it originally was going to include xenomorphs in it and it would've taken place on LV-426, making it a direct prequel to the first Alien film, but Ridley Scott didn't want to include the xenomorphs in the film. I have very mixed feelings towards Alien: Covenant but the ending is absolutely chilling.

You are missing one core story and that's the one from Alien Isolation. It's a direct sequel to the first film and features Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter, while Ellen is still in cryo-sleep. It is a great story and continues the extended lore but is obviously separate from the original 4 films. There's also a lot of comic stories that are canon to the overarching plot so, I highly recommend checking those out too if you get the chance!

However she only cared for the whereabouts of her daughter. Burke reluctantly revealed that Amanda had passed away 2 yrs before Ellen returned home. This explains why Ellen was so eager to save Newt. A way to raise a daughter she never got to raise. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eYR91tGGlrOufLQ.html

While no series is defined by its directors, the pedigree and effort in retaining the detectors that it did is perhaps unparalleled.

People that actually have cats treat them with the same kind of love as they would a dog. It’s not difficult to understand that relationship. If you would go back for your dog in that situation then you understand why Ripley went back for her cat. The scene also does more for her character, showing her strong empathy. She doesn’t want an innocent creature to be killed by that monster.

The replicants in Blade Runner are not androids like Bishop and Ash were. They were flesh and blood people basically grown in a lab. But their internals were all identical to a human. If you took a replicants brain and put it by a humans you would not be able to tell the difference. Now the replicants were engineered to be A LOT tougher than humans as you know if you’ve seen Blade Runner. The first one is way better than the sequel. Alien scares me to this day. Something about being literally trapped on a ship in interstellar space with an aggressive alien on board is just terrifying.

Thank you so much for this incredible nostalgia trip. As a fan of science fiction, one of the things The Alien movies do for me is combine my nostalgia for the franchise and the feeling of infinity in space. And this video captured that feeling perfectly. I didn't know about the Audible Alien III podcast and I am really glad I found it because after years of waiting I will finally have something new from The Alien franchise to enjoy. No. That's what they _attempted_ to do. Look, Scott makes stories that can't be captured in any single movie but refuses to make them into mini-series that would MUCH better suit what he's going for anyway. The Hollywood market would never have paid as much for those, but that's what he needs. Without that extra room much that would make things make a little more sense _AND_ explore the themes as he wants to. As it stands we need Yt channels that show us deleted scenes without which much of his stories make Zero Sense.

As far as the cat in the first movie, I dug it because it knew a predator was there even though the people didn’t. To me it gave an extra sense of “oh fuck”. For instance the budget for aliens 2, was significantly lower than the 1st movie and they had to show some practical effects in order to get more money. Or that in the scene with sigourney riding the yellow machine there was a very strong man lifting her in order to perform, and for a prank (kinda bad prank) they put a cucumber in his pants to make her feel uncomfortable. At the start of Prometheus we see the first engineer kill himself - I think he is Prometheus: the figure from Greek mythology who steals fire from the gods and gives it to humanity. He is marooned by the other engineers for giving humanity access to technology they don't want them to have. The Greeks gave condemned people the option of killing themselves, so that explains the first engineer/Prometheus character using to poison to kill himself. The other engineers resolve to wipe humanity out. Meanwhile, using the technology that the first engineer/Prometheus character gave to them without permission, humans come to find the engineers, erroneously believing they've been "invited". Moral of the story: a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

But the Alien colony that we see on the commercial ship in Alien did not originate on the ship. It was the result of an embryo making its way onto the ship from the surface of LV-426, likely from a face hugger impregnating a crew member. LV-426 is in the same system as Paradise and it is likely that David would disperse his impregnated human subjects across this system after the events of Covenant. The “original” Alien in Alien absolutely can be traced back to the events of Prometheus and Covenant without decanonizing anything.

@@AnotherNormalYorkshiremanit was definitely a great movie experience. They Re release it for Halloween night that year along with The Fly. I saw ALIENS before I saw ALIEN. Saw the it the next day on VHS
