I believe the treasure should return to India and led the Indian tell the story of there heritage will make the gem and jewry more alive and meaningful to each and every piece of jewelry. This looks like they one the stolen items to be legal belong to the new owners and it's already done, stolen is considered dirty, there is nothing can make this gem shining or sparkle to clean is shine against.

because this is not supposed to be educational, but a propaganda piece for Qatar and its oil-enriched Al Thani rulers who buy up art and history for their various collections, without having a clue of culture or history. THAT is what hitting the jackpot of oil does: wealth of cash, no wealth of urbanity or civilizaiton

Make no mistake these jewels were never belonged to ordinary Indians. Before the British India was divided into 800 kingdoms, fighting with each other. To win their selfish battle they often taken help of foreign invaders .They must have paid them in jewels, their treasury were depleted due to fighting . Thanks to the people who saved them for us to see & to understand what cruelty was meted out to the ordinary Indians.

I just knew there would be some comments about stolen culture and the responses from nimrods who don't want to own their culture's role in that theft. But it is also interesting to see comments from Indians who have a "different or non-popular viewpoint". I'll never forget having a teacher who lived in Italy during Mussolini's rule and had a VERY different opinion of him from what is normally published.

British declared war on us and defeated us in the war. Though their means of warfare were questionable from an Indian cultural perspective, we never stood a chance against them with their well organized military and guns. Our rulers should have tried to open themselves to cultures outside India and keep up with the world. India lost its war because of Inefficient rulers and it's citizens sunk in superstition and caste divisions.

@@abhin.v4981 That’s not what happened. The east India company traded with small princely states and traded with them, moving closer and closer to the Mughal empire when it was at its weakest. The EIC then declared war on the Mughal emperor which led to the collapse of the empire. The empire then broke up into many princely states which made deals with the EIC and then later the British empire for protection in exchange of indirect rule.

It really is a tragic double edged sword, admiring these priceless magnificent jewels... while there is no denying the exceptional skill required to create them, one simply cannot forget that for hundreds of years, millions of exploited and starving people slaved away in absolute squallor and died tragic deaths, just so that a select few people could swish around all day, every day, playing with priceless jewels (that could have fed, clothed, sheltered and educated hundreds of people, for years!)
