The Airgun Show - hunting farmyard rats with the NiteSite R-TEK, PLUS the Brocock Bantam on test

Спорт

www.theshootingshow.tv
Winter ratting is not for the faint-hearted, especially when the rain is lashing down. Mat Manning heads to the farm in search of shelter as he heads out after scaly-tails on a stormy night. It’s a tough call but the stealth provided by the NiteSite Viper R-TEK enables him to make the most of any chances.
And we’ve got the Brocock Compatto Bantam on the test bench. The latest version of the British gunmaker’s innovative semi-bullpup boasts new features including a high-capacity air bottle - and that means more shots per fill and some awesome high-power options.

Some times the Rats cooperate, and sometimes I guess they don't. Seeing and hearing that rain pouring down and knowing it was likely cold there sent chills up and down my spine. I spent far too much time out working in that kind of weather, and the memories of that kind of chill hang on for many years... A very Happy New Year to you and yours Mr. Manning, we will see you again next year. Bionicycle aka William C. in the U.S.A.

Hi good review, I'm not a great PCP lover (just the thought of needing a recharging cylinder, rather than infinite shots with a springer) I'm off to Stonleigh Park in a couple of weeks so might check the Brocock out to go along with my HW 97kt ,cheers

Don't know how I missed this video ;( but I have just bought this rifle with the 400cc bottle in black soft touch and couldn't be more pleased, its basically a daystate but much more affordable for a lot more air gunners. great ratting Mat but shame about the rain but that's pest control for you ! atb phil

Hi Gary. I didn't notice it to be exceptionally noisy - apart from the 'ping' of the safety catch. The review was shot using a directional mic, which make have enhanced some of the sounds. All the best. Mat

Good to see you back at the helm Matt. The Bantam seems to be getting a good bit of coverage. I'm sure it will do a bit better than the initial Compatto here in the states due to the higher shot count of the high power models. Looking forward to more episodes. ATB, Michael

Other than ratting, ratting, ratting the same old farm buildings, why doesn't the farmer concrete up many of the more hidden rat holes, forcing the rats to use more open entrances that can be rat-shot. Can't believe that you can't take down an entire population, ground crawler as well as flying critters.

  • @johnlord8337

Seems more of the island problems are that the farmers don't stack their bales and other farm products upon on 4-6 wood platforms, keeping all the dirt and rot from festering the outside materials. Same for such rat holes in all the sideline brush and stinging nettles. Rototill or have a dirt plow these strips ripping them up, filling up the holes and compacting the dirt preventing occupation. And having higher sided cow feeding troughs, not allowing the animals to toss outwards their feed and straw onto the ground.

I try to make use of whatever I shoot, but draw the line at rats. They either end up on a fire site or in the slurry pit, depending on which farm it is. All the best. Mat

I love these videos - but I turned this off after 7 mins - nothing happened. I watch these to see how Mat shoots and pick up new techniques. If you've not got a decent shoot for the start, I think viewers would prefer it want there. Dragging it out for almost half the video to eventually say you've seen a rat is a little annoying and spoils the reputation and excitement of watching these otherwise awesome videos! 😀

How will this nightsight system work with a high recoil rifle like a 30.06 or a .300WM where you don't have a shoulder to stop the recoil?. Or is this system designed only for low recoil weapons like pellet guuns or .17/.22 cal weapons? Oh, and on a minor point....Whoever the person is that's does the voice over work for your "Shooting News" segment. Tell him to change his voice tone, or find a new person to do it. Damn that guy always sounds angry and pissed off about something, he's always growling even while delivering good news...Total turn off to your cause. He's not really helping you promote hunting and gun possession, most non-hunters viewing this channel would think the guy wants to rip someones headoff. State your point...But don't sound evil about it dude.
