China’s leading internet authority has introduced a sophisticated language model (LLM) that is based on the political philosophy of Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing it as a “secure and reliable” closed AI system. This machine learning language model was initiated by the China Cyberspace Research Institute, a body under the jurisdiction of the national regulator, the Cyberspace Administration of China. The LLM’s core content is composed of the philosophy and other chosen cyberspace themes that align with the official government narrative, as stated in a post on the administration’s WeChat account. The administration emphasized the professional quality of the generated content, attributing it to the professionalism and authority of the corpus.
In February, the Communist Party’s decision-making Central Committee issued a national notice mandating learning activities for all party members to familiarize them better with Xi Jinping Thought. The notice also instructed party groups to motivate members to assist the party in further dominating China’s cyberspace to ensure that “positive energy” remains the prevailing trend in national internet traffic.
