Well, I remember that someone pointed out that Taako has long ears cuz he's an elf, but he also only attacks when attacked, and he had that whole bit with Leon where he stole the candies using 'blink' that involved him eating a carrot, not to mention his buck teeth, and his breaking of gender norms by wearing feminine clothing, so by that evidence, the person was able to deduce that that character was heavily inspired by none other than the mammalian god of chaos himself, Bugs Bunny.

I feel like Cassidy probably reminded Magnus of Julia. Being the daughter of a blacksmith she was probably pretty rough'n'tumblr too, y'know? I just want Mango to be happy man

Misha Shivers I'm sure it comes from a good place, like trying to respect whatever term might make sense that they don't know. Once you start getting farther away from humanoid, it gets weird, right? "Woman dragon" doesn't sound right. But what if it had humanish intelligence and a concept of gender?! As usual, these choices in fantasy are proxies for issues we encounter in reality. It's no accident that Roswell was consistently referred to as "they". That was a small normalization of different kinds of pronouns. I bet there's a lot more critical thought about this from more dedicated fantasy fans. I'd love to learn more.

so "woman" as a term meaning female human does have sort of a linguistic basis. the word derives from the Old English "wiffmann" meaning "female human" as opposed to "wermann" meaning "male human", "mann" being human. the consonants gradually shifted together to become "woman" while the gendered prefix narrowed down to "wife". so technically as used in English, woman implies a member of the genus homo sapiens. we don't have a lot of language for non-human personhood and subjectivity in English. "woman" in fantasy seems to work for humanoid figures, it feels intuitive to us to say "elven woman", but as someone pointed out "dragon woman" feels wrong (or at least describes a woman who is draconic and not a dragon that is a woman) but "female dragon" does not. the phrase "the dragon turned into" or "took on the shape of a woman" feels correct though, this seems to imply that we have trouble envisaging human-like subjectivities without humanoid bodies.

"yep got it in one..." Capturing that perfect moment of a little bit of yourself dying inside
