So many sitcoms were based on the premise that the husband character dislikes his wife/kids or at least barely tolerates them. I always enjoyed how devoted Gomez was to his children and loving he was to his wife.

Seeing the addams here and then in wednesday, i don't get why they are made so evil and scary in the new versions when these people are literally the sweetest people you'd ever meet. Sure they like dark stuff but they still treat thier guests with kindness

Yeah that was the whole premise of the original sitcom, it was the juxtaposition of them being morbid but being healthy and happy and kind people. Nowadays because of the popularity of emo and goth subculture, they made them more edgy, especially Wednesday for some reason. It all started with the Addams Family movies from the 90s.

Best thing it was a role reverse for men and women! Instead of Mortisa being "lost" with out her children - it was Gomez! He was against having the children leave not Mortisa! Mortisa wanted her daughter to play with other children! Excellent show!

This show emphasizes how looks can be deceiving. Families that seem so functional to the outside world tend to be the most destructive. Parents who seem “normal” to the outside world tend to neglect and abuse their children behind closed doors. The Addams parents are so loving and care about their kids regardless of them coming off “creepy”.

I was 12 when The Addams Family was first broadcast (yeah, I'm that old, lol), and I was the perfect age to appreciate it. It was scary, creepy, kooky, mysterious, and whooky. Their house was a museum when people came to see-um, they really were a scre-um. I crawled on my broomstick, and I always loved to call on, the Addams Family.

I love Gomez saying “Why have kids if your just gonna send them away?” It not only shows Gomez loves having his kids around, but also calls out the REAL intentions of sending your kids to school.

This is an incredible pilot. The writing is excellent as the overall concept and all the characters are introduced to us in a very natural and entertaining way. I also really like the overall art direction. An instant classic for me, as I'm already re-watching it again, less than 24 hours after discovering it...

They really r the best family 😭 Gomez and Morticia deeply respect and love each other, Gomez loves his kids and loves spending time with them unlike many dads in the 60s, they’re incredibly polite and not spoiled despite being rich (having a butler but not making him do things they can easily do themselves), and being concerned not only for their kids but for the other kids at the school ugh 😭❤️

@@elijahlivingston9477 yeah this is my favourite version. They have a love for the occult and the dark but are passionate, kind and loving not only with their family but people in general. They believe they are normal and try to make others feel at home and are concerned about others. Even Wednesday in modern iterations doesn't really have her childish charm. I enjoy Addams family values but it doesn't have the same charm as this one and we'll probably never get anything similar again which is a shame.

Morticia Addams is always played by such beautiful women.😌🖤

Fun fact: Fairytales were originally told to adolescents and young adults as coming of age stories. They didn't become associated with children's literature till the early 19th century. It's partially why they're so dark and gruesome.

This show combines my two favorite things: classic horror archetypes and silly gallows humor. It's so charming.

The irony is the Addams kids ARE even more educated that most kids their age. Wednesday is polite, kind, sweet, and charming for just being a little girl, and Pugsley is a loving little brother who can come up with some crazy inventions kids his age could only dream of doing.

The funny thing is, the Addamses are super friendly and polite and not actually creepy or dangerous at all, just peculiar. I'd love to hang with them.

Really speaks of Gomez and how he utterly love his family (especially his kids), he wants to spend just about every single waking hour with his two kids, learn of their interests and encourage them to do better than ever. Could even see it when Wednesday and Pugsley were getting dragged off by the teacher, Gomez almost couldn't bear the thought of his kids leaving him.

​@@ginoborrero2222 this! my parents would put me on lock down and i had zero freedom when i was a kid but now that im an adult, i feel like they don't care about me at all. my little brother is still in school and he gets in trouble all the time and even got sent to a different school and he doesn't get in trouble at all. parents who neglect their kids don't deserve them in the first place

I LOVE the scene at 18:00 where Wednesday and Pugsley run to Morticia in her chair, and she takes Wednesday on her lap and calls her "angel." Very sweet.

Actually yeah, loving parents, that don't seem to fight much.

Addams Family versions come and go,some better some worse, but the 60's show will always be my favourite.

I love the Addams family. I think they’re such wonderful people. I think it’s funny that they were designed to be the opposite of what a normal American family would look like, and that includes a father that is madly in love with his wife and kids.

*one of the most lovely family in tv history and now with the wednesday serie this is more evident*

Morticia's perspective on Hansel and Gretel here, it carried over into Addams Family Values, when Morticia made the children sympathetic to the witch who was killed. I enjoy the 2019 animated version of Wednesday Addams attending school. Initially she referred to homeschooling as cage schooling. Then she got to the public school and called it a children's prison. HILARIOUS!

Knights killing a dragon is barbaric. Such powerful creatures should be preserved and made friends with rather than just outright killing them. The Addams were right about this.

That sounds like my dad. The characters have great family values. Better than some of the normal people in the show!

Gomez and Morticia are such a beautiful couple. They love each other so much. They’re also amazing parents to Wednesday and Pugsley. Even in later adaptations, this doesn’t change. One of the best things about the Addams Family. No matter what interpretations of them, the 1960s series, the 1990 movies, even the recent 2019 movie, Gomez and Morticia are the best loving couple and the best loving parents.

Can we just talk about how beautiful Morticia is? Like every time I look at her, I just go wow

Call me crazy, but I think society would benefit from taken the Addams family approach in restoring nuclearfamilies, especially when it comes to the modern public school system.

A loving father/husband, a loving mother/wife, two well-mannered kids that respect their parents/elders, and a family of good hearted people. And these guys are considered “strange.” Pretty sad when you think about it.

Until they are college age, the they turn on you and blame you for them not be socialized. Then they get to college and find all the 'socialized' kids are cracked out on anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, ADHD meds, and traumatized by their time in public school, just like you always told 'em.

I actually prefer shows that have a story arc and character development. That's not to say that I don't like shows like this. And if you only have the odd episode to watch, it's certainly easier when every episode is a standalone. Have fun watching!

I could only wish there was parents like this nowadays , so well rounded! I was raised with this series

This episode is hilarious! I love the scene with with Miss Comstock agreeing with Morticia and Gomez about Mr. Hilliard! 😂
