They don't spend a lot of time on it or call it out explicitly, but Qimir absolutely proved to Mae that it's not impossible to kill a Jedi without a weapon when he dropped Yord with his bare hands. And then the casual tossing aside of the body, like it was easy, was just brutal.

The reason the sabers were shorting out is because Qimir was wearing Cortosis weave armor. It’s appeared in some books on the fringes of canon, and canonically it’s what Sheev’s lightsaber was made out of (and trimmed in gold), but we’ve never seen armor like this onscreen before. Super dope pull, I think.

"And let you read my thoughts... no" - so many people have heard that line and jumped to the conclusion that the helmet blocks Sol from getting into the Master's head like Magneto's helmet blocks Charles in X-Men. The reality is the helmet physically blocks Sol from seeing the Master's eyes and facial expressions and thus his ability to interpret and anticipate the Master's next moves.

@@boat1280 agreed. I also like that they clearly paid attention to it’s main properties to play into the plot, the fact it’s a very brittle metal allowing it to be broken apart easily. Idk why some people aren’t able to follow Mae’s plotting. She planned to surrender and snitch on the master due to: Osha being alive, and not being able to satisfy the master. That plan changed when 1) Kelnacca was killed, leaving her prime suspect. 2) The master, who she was planning to snitch on, was already there. Plan B was to flee. Cortosis-weave armor (what Qimir is precisely wearing) was an armor which was resistant to lightsabers. It contained traces of cortosis, an ore prized for its ability to create an energy feedback loop which would temporarily shut down a lightsaber. As cortosis weave contained only trace amounts of the ore woven into it, the armor lost the ability to short out an opponent's energy blade. Instead armor containing the cortosis weave would merely be resistant to lightsaber strikes. Cortosis weave was in use as early as 4000 BBY as both an armor underlay and for the tempering of traditional melee weapons against lightsabers. At this time cortosis ore seemed to be much more common, later, however it would become a rarer, more valuable material that would give the user an unexpected edge against a force-sensitive opponent. *Source : Wookieepedia

I’ve really liked this whole show (imperfect, for sure, but still *really* good, well above replacement-level Star Wars so far) but this ep absolutely BLEW me away. Manny Jacinto, LJJ, and Dafne Keen all went NUTS this episode. We have certainly had better *pure lightsaber* fights I think, and certainly more emotional ones, but the overall package of action in this episode was INCREDIBLE - including some of the best live action lightsaber work we’ve ever seen. I would even go so far as to say the action (not just saber, but all of it collectively) was the most untethered, savage action the franchise has ever delivered.

I believe Mae abandoned her plan of turning herself in when she realized her Master was already there. She had nothing to bargain with now. She didn't think the Jedi would survive, so no point in trying to get on their good side or get caught by them (easier for the Master to get her after slaughtering the Jedi). She knew begging forgiveness from him was pointless, so she just wanted to run.

The series is trying to explore very specific philosophical themes around this twisted "game of power" (the force) and who's got the right to wield it and why ; but also that it goes beyond "good and bad" ; and themes such as "the freedom of choice" and things like that... So yeah, I think we delve into the alternate paths that exist beyond the Jedi way, with at its core the seeds of a dramatic outcome for the galaxy in its entirety. This very episode clearly shows the extent of the damages caused by certain specific events (related to the force and questions about its wielders) and their ripples in time... [all the Jedi who die in this episode weren't present during the tragic events of Episode 3, but they pay the consequences of their elders, in a way ; and btw I felt exactly like you when Jecki & Yord's deaths happened] + Mae is now infiltrating the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, the Trojan horse way... + Vernestra's probably gonna take care of Qimir ; but... Always two there are... And Qimir is Koril's apprentice imo. I think this series is powerful in many various and subtle ways [so much so that it's not appreciated by a share of the audience (but I also see many people like me who love it and what it's trying to do/say)]. ...And this episode, of course I really loved, I found it Impactful on various layers and for episodes to come... *And I care about the story and characters, then of course this episode is a huge and devastating punch in the face, even if, again, I really love what the show is trying to tell regarding the consequences of the rules applied to the "force wielding"... PS : I 100% agree with you about the death threats and bs like these... I think in life it's important to chill and relax when you don't like something (rather than entering wars like we see every day on social networks ; with people explaining you why you're so wrong and dumb to love this or that ; like, wtf) and simply move on, because you're eventually gonna find something to love down the line, the way there are people who actually love the things you happen not to like.

Since the premiere... And it kinda caught me off guard initially but i am comfortable with it now.. its felt like an animated show that is in live action.. a lot of the smaller conflict is immediately wrapped up so the story can progress with some layering but still easily digestible for many age groups..

I did think the fights were well done, and I appreciate the cortosis armor pieces. I also appreciated that the Jedi were confused when their sabers shorted out. I get how Basil could be disconcerting, but I really enjoyed that he is just running around in the background doing his own thing.

1:18 THANK YOU, Omni. You are right, it should not need to be said, and personally I think it's terrible that it must be. Idk if it's the anonymity the internet gives people makes them feel freer to say what they would never say to someone's face or just what. But my God, it's JUST a TV show, it's a part of the lore/fandom/breadth of the story that you can take or leave as you like. You do not need to wrap up your entire identity in whether or not the franchise conforms to YOUR way of thinking. This right here is why George said he was done with us, why he sold the franchise off. He got nothing but hate for the prequels, he got nothing but hate for the Clone Wars animated series, hell, he got all kinds of hate back in '83 when he introduced us all to the Ewoks. Ofc, with distance and time and the benefit of nostalgia, there is an entire segment of the fandom that loves Ewoks, and another that ADORES the Clone Wars Animated, and another that praises the prequels to the sky. There is nothing wrong with letting each segment of the fandom have something about it that THEY like, even if it's different from you. My distaste and impatience with the prequels chucking out all the lore that *I* grew up on doesn't stop me from enjoying the franchise with my friend who grew up on the prequels and loves them. Why can't this be the same? If you don't like or want to engage with the High Republic era, guess what...it has no bearing on what you love from the Imperial era. Breathe deep, sit down and have a snack, and just freaking forget about it. Death threats just make you look like an idiot who can't deal with reality. We ALL eat, sleep, and breathe Star Wars. There's no reason to go off the rails if you don't like some of the content.

I don't think that the cortosis helmet blocks the Force, but maybe that Jedi need eye contact in order to read thoughts, without being invasive like a dark sider user would be. His Bracer and Helmet are made of Cortosis. It's a type of metal that can be used to absorb blaster fire and safely redirect the energy leaving you unharmed. The nice side bonus is that it temporarily shorts out lightsabers when struck. It plays an important part in the second thrawn book that is currently Canon.

If it was Star Wars Rebels we would probably not get this level of violence but Disney has show us brutality in the past. I understand many people have their problems with The Last Jedi but we did see Snoke get cut in half and Kylo Ren decapitate a praetorian guard where we actually see the head come off without a cutaway. At the end of that fight he even stabs a guard in the eye before turning off the saber. In Clone Wars Maul decapitates two clones with a metal hallway piece. We don’t see the severing but we see their heads fall off. The Kenobi series showed Vader snap an older kids neck. He looked like he was in the 14-16 age range. The Bad Batch series finale also turned the violence way up than the rest of the series. Clones getting stabbed in the chest and shot up a crazy amount of times

It's so cool they added cortosis into the live-action and we finally get to see it in action. For people who don't know what it is, it's a rare material that is super energy-resistant, and causes a feedback loop when a lightsaber blade connects with it, causing the lightsabers to basically short out. It's energy resistant properties also allow it to absorb blaster fire, which is why the stun blast did nothing. It's pretty brittle, and any sustained attacks can cause it to break and shatter. In Legends it was introduced back in the novel "I, Jedi" which released in 1998.

She's not interacting with someone else but herself. At least I think that's the problem. That cortosis armor was a really nice touch to Qmir's brutal and frenetic lightsaber style and a great nod to legends. Still remember when i first saw it on Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast more than 2 decades ago. Amazing fights all around this episode and i was definitely not prepared to see both Jecki and Yord getting killed like that. Also Master Sol almost gave in to his anger and te urge to strike down a unarmed oponent. Makes me all me the more curious about what he did on Brendok, Guessing Qmir will be the one telling it to Osha while Mae will try to hide from her master amongst the Jedi. But i bet the plant wil be short lived, while Sol may be shocked about all the deaths he did saw the tattoo on Osha's arm.

Mae was smart to disguise herself as Osha and then leave with the only one that seemed to go toe to toe with the Sith who was going to kill her. Since her sister was willing to go against her again, she figured let Osha deal with him, while she goes into survival instincts. Also, this may be the only way she figures our how to kill a Jedi without using a weapon, although she already did by letting Torbin make his own decision. Mae can use Sol's guilt against him. He woke up disoriented from being knocked out, that his guard is down. He didn't sense anything off about "Osha" yet. Bazil may end up dead at the last second before revealing her as the one he was supposed to track originally. Reactors keep saying about Mae "Oh, I thought you were going to turn yourself in. So why put up a fight with Jacki?" And I'm like, did everyone just forget that she was planning on doing that BEFORE there was a dead Jedi Wookie on the premises she was just in? I don't get why everyone seems so desperate to go over this show with a fine tooth comb and nit pick on every minute detail to find reasons to crap on it. Now the people just out right attacking this show, even trying to sabotage it before it even debuted tells me all I need to know about them. They have their toxic hateful agendas of...well, take your pick. It's a great show, and I find it more interesting than the last 2 Star Wars movies. I haven't been eager to see any of the Disney plus shows as of yet, besides this one...except, I do want to watch Obi-wan show. Although I love Pascal's acting, I was not interested in a show about the side character of Bobba Fett. During the og movies he never spoke or showed his face. In the prequel Attack of the Clone Wars he was a clone child. And I am not so heavily into all of the many, many, many shows, books, animations as the diehard fanbase. But this show felt fresh and not all tangled up in the drawn out Skywalker sagas. Plus, it's nice to see reflections of me in a main character of this universe, for once, as a black woman. No doubt another reason the looney fans were trying to sabotage it. This universe consists of aliens, robots and humanoid people from different planets and I still can't believe people are surprised that Disney is giving inclusions of more types of human people. It's like...get over yourselves or just go watch reruns of the older stuff or something. Funny how things are only "woke" when it's not solely about them and their preferences.

🌪️ so when a weird nerdy sort of way, I went out of my way to calculate the actual runtime of the episodes of actual acting in other words, not counting end credits. So the total actual runtime for all four to five episodes would equate to a movie, actually the first four episodes would probably equate to a TV movie. Now, in my opinion just because of the pacing and the way they’ve told the stories so far instead of a season of eight episodes if they did maybe like two or three TV movies to tell the story it may have worked better but that again is all based on how each episode to me has ended each time the structure is just very weird and it’s strange because Headland comes from TV shows most recently so she shared understand how to lay out the structure better anyway we shall see how the last three episodes go, and then I will definitely rewatch everything from beginning to end to see how I feel about it.

I know this show is not peek best, but I have enjoyed it so far. I think what angers people the most is not the show itself, but how Disney has handled their social media and publicity in the face of discontent or rejection of media. This episode really got my attention, and I am very curious how this ends. Because Sol can not report this encounter to the Jedi. We know for a fact the Republic can not have any warning about a "Sith" mucking about. I also like that Qimir has a more grounded vendetta against the Jedi. That his anger towards them is not totally rooted in the traditional friction of the Jedi vs Sith but in his dislike for having to hid himself, his power, and be so careful about obtaining an apprentice. The freedom to exist. I think that was a rather pleasant twist. This was a solid good episode and I like that the saber combat was not just random saber waving. From what I could tell, each was using their appointed form to the best they could and it did not feel like anyone was pulling punches. The other thing I noticed is that it looked like Qimir's movements were sped up during the bigger fight at the beginning. He was moving very fluidly between the rest of the Jedi he was fighting. I really got the impression these Jedi were/are in over their heads against him. Even more interesting to me now that Osha is now in his grasp. I am very curious to see if he turns Osha into his new apprentice and continues to pin the sisters against each other. My best guess is that Sol is not going to last much longer regardless or something else NEEDS to happen before he can report back to the Jedi Order. Unless sol brushes it off and says it Qimir was just a Sith Pretender or something and makes him out to be less of a threat on the assumption he "died" to the bugs Osha pinned on him. I wouldn't like it much if they choose that latter option. If the show is willing to put in a solid punch or two, it needs to keep that brutality and I will be here for it if it does. We will know for sure next Tuesday.
