I just realized that this common 'abyss' color palette which a combination of dark black and glowing cyan also somewhat similar to to a 'negative' color, makes me think of an inverted world or a limbo

Don't think you can. They spawn quite commonly in vanilla biomes like plains and forests. Hope that helps!

I have a problem with this mod. Whenever I press the Radio to enter the Abyss, or when I'm in the Abyss at all, all of the blocks are completely dark and I can only see the Loran plants. Is this a bug or a feature?

There's an alternative type of Obsidian block you can use along with a separate activator that you can craft. If you've got JEI it should be easy enough to find :) Hope that helps!
