I feel for you brother. My Aces have been getting cracked for the last 5 months, by the worst hands, J2, 64 off, k7d and 23. They have finally been holding up this week. Stay strong.

The fact that you still cashed out with anything shows more discipline than I ever had chasing the wind down easy street while trying to fulfill my delusion of grandeur of being a good poker player. My best advice is to remain the same because in my experience you can tilt going up just as much as down and you seem to be pretty even keeled in spite of this swing which shows a lot of the character needed to survive this silly game.

It’s called variance… It’s the toughest thing to learn when playing poker, you can play the hand perfectly and lose… 1/3 can be a fun game, the $500 buy in is very appropriate because it will allow for actual poker and not people jamming with a lower buy in… Variance can drive the best poker players insane, even when you had the nuts you had to chop… it sounds insane but 2/5 and 5-10 are more purer games… more standard 3 betting that the players will respect… your tight folds will pay off in higher stakes

  • @NorCal_Poker

Just sick cooler spots where I was sooo ahead or pretty much effective nuts on flop and then f*cked by river. Keep sticking. It's the mental game that most can't deal with. Stay up! i see this alot with players but u r correct, a check raise on the river usually means u r beat. i would say this player had a flush something like 3-4 of clubs or 6-3 that contained a pair and flush draw. these holdings would most likely limp in oppose to raising preflop. good laid down on your part.

Thing I will say is that it doesn’t make since to go for thing value when the river card completed most of the draws he would be calling the flop or turn with. Also betting half pot on the turn is just giving him better odds to call with the draws he has. If he had Q 10 I don’t think he calls the turn anyway. So it would make more sense to check the river.

Better get use to it cause these swings are standard at these games even with a 30bb/hr win-rate you can still lose 3000$ in one session and -1k swings within a single session is standard. This match the stack 1-3 you’re playing plays bigger than most 500-1000$ cap 2-5 games so it’s a bigger jump from 1-2 than u would expect. Raise larger with 4 limp in this game u need to raise to 30. 6 way pots AA go way down in value and you need lazer accurate reads when stacking off in with them in multiway pots. Your hand has less than 50% equity vs 5 opponents it’s standard to lose half the time. Obviously you did run bad and lost more than that but focus on what you can control not what you can’t. Having an attitude of I’m running bad is going go hurt you in the long run, always have the attitude of I suck, how can i get better, i got unlucky and lost 2800$ but if i had played better maybe i woulda only loss 2400$ should be your mindset. Good luck I am rooting for you.

I personally hate pocket A’s because it can be such a let down lol also I feel like a lot of people put way too much much equity on them when you don’t hit a set that is my stance on a lot of pocket pairs actually. You can only get 2 outtered so many times before the math catches up. Those were the biggets pots could have and usually will go the other way. You should probably buy in as deep as possible since your not playing alot of hours and cover everyone since your one of the "best" players in that pool. Your roll isn't infinite but you can easily manage these swings. Look forward to the 2k and 3k pots that go your way.

AA first hand: Mistake was the tiny turn bet. I'd overbet this spot bc villain capped on the flop, and the K does not likely uncap villain's range. Just fyi: The river 9 completes two straights, the K-high and 9-high. Your turn bets in general are too small IMO.

Hi first time seeing your video or volg. Sure you get enough advice but I use to play for a living 25 years ago now just play for fun once in awhile. I made a good living. Unfortunately we all have down swings where nothing seems we do to be fight. Cannot commit if other players are showing you tells as you don't show those or reactions. But one thing I do know is you want to isolate not have multiple people in the pot more in less chances your aces or suited connectors going to win. Example if 5 people are calling a 4x bet of 25 clearly your not raising high enough before the flop think about going 6x or 7x to just get that one person. Second thing your follow-up bets on flop and turn way to low I know your trying to keep people in to make more money but your also putting one pair at risk with multiple people if your pricing them in to call. Lastly sometimes it's ourselves we are trying to hard or not getting enough sleep or just in a bad down swing I always limit to one rebuy so start with 500 rebuy once I know it is hard even if the night just started but also some days just not your day better to walk away come back the next day or take couple days break start fresh and rested and clear than to keep rebuying going deeper. I will say one thing that helped me a lot back then is I kept a separate account for poker this way I knew no matter what win or loose my bills were always paid and didn't add stress to myself or family. I would take half my wins and put in my poker account so when I did have those down swings no matter how long they are I was always making sure my bills were paid. Plus allowed me to watch my account grow with my wins which was nice. Believe me down swings are hard I once had one last three months buying in same as you did and rebuy once each time no matter what I didn't couldn't win it hurts and also makes you think is it you or should you just stop playing the game ect.. But that's also where that separate account helped too. You will come our of it we all do. I would also say during this time use it to pay more attention even though it's hard when frustrated but pay even closer attention to players tells so helps you read them better as well learn more how they play or there tells even better to not make future mistakes. Even today when I play I still do when I sit down at a table fold two full rounds of cards gives me a sharp advantage to watch the players closely and zone in on tells or there bets as well. I wouldn't even look at my cards because I didn't want to be tempted at first later when better control of my actions I would just look at them to not draw attention and still no matter what fold. I made a very good living back then my only big mistake was I was young I spent 15 hours on average every day in a poker room for three years which if could do it again would never spend that much but I was obsessed with winning and making money but unfortunately I had teanage kids lost a lot of time with my kids and then wife which did a lot of damage and missed a lot as kids grow up fast. If I could see how other players are reacting to hands, bets and folds I could tell you there tells to help you find them but like I said you don't show that. But I will tell you to always stay consistent if your not on time you take to bet, fold or call so your not giving off any tells. Hope some of this helped. Wish you the best of luck. Jay from Tennessee 😎

I watch Doug McClusker's Vlog also. You guys play at the same casino in the same game....and I just keep thinking to myself how mostly great he has run this year in big spots...vs how terrible you have run in the same game at the same Casino in a lot of your big spots. I do think Doug is a little better player than you are, but the huge difference in his results vs yours in 2024 really does show how the variance in the big pots greatly affects results....run good versus run bad in the pots that make or break a session. Good luck the rest of this year... but running on the wrong side of variance can go on for a long time within normal statistical variance, so I hope it turns for you soon. The cards are pieces of plastic with no memory and no preference as to who wins...and they can be cruel. I would be surprised if McCluster has any issue with amymore than maybe one of those five AA hands the way the board flopped and the hands played out, accounting for your pot odds when calling vs other inferior hands you could have been up against. Mariano is a great example of a guy who's made it big as a vlogger and he is a really good player, but he has also been so incredibly fortunate to run on the massively positive side of variance in huge pots as he built his vlog and his bankroll....hands that basically play themselves win or lose.

ok i have to say i am not a fan of you folding ace-king there. sure you knew you were behind, however, u have a hand that can improve to beat ace-deuce. if you were holding ace-queen or under in this hand, i like a fold giving what you said about the player. the other dynamics in the hand are that he is all in. if he had more chips, then folding is not a bad play giving what you know about him. the other dynamic is the other player in the hand. if u called the all in and he calls, u may be able to make money off this player in case u r beat with the all in player. its all a gamble depending on your stack.
