DRY ROUX INGREDIENTS:
- 1 Cup All Purpose Flour
- 1 Cup Vegetable Oil
- 2 Cups Chicken Broth
GUMBO INGREDIENTS:
- 1 Lb Large Raw Shrimp - Peeled/ Deveined/ Tails Off
- 1 Tsp Onion Powder
- 1 Tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 Tsp Creole Seasoning
- 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper
- 2 Cups Frozen Seasoning Blend OR:
- 1 Diced White Onion
- 1 Diced Green Bell Pepper and or Red Pepper
- 2 Ribs of Celery Diced
- 1 Cup Frozen Okra
- 1 Can of Stewed Tomatoes
- 1 Cup Homemade Roux
- 4 Cups Chicken Broth
- 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
- 1 Tbsp Onion Powder
- 2 Tbsp Creole Seasoning
- 2 Bay Leaves
- 1 Tsp Dried Thyme
- 1 Tsp Black Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Gumbo File'
- Louisiana Hot Sauce to Taste

I made this last night for dinner! It was deeeeeeliiiccciiooouuusss!!!! The only thing was that I let the pot simmer for like 45 minutes. I couldn’t see how the crabs would cook in only 15 minutes. But the crab meat came out realllly tender and juicy. Next time I may use a different type of crab because the blue crabs legs were sooooooo tiny. We were barely getting any meat out of them. But overall, it was sooo yummy! I’m learning how to cook so much stuff with you!! 🥰🥰

Thanks so much Bee! I’ve found that most people won’t make gumbo because of the roux. The biologist in me led me here to the easy way that still gives the same results lol. I’m glad that you enjoyed the video!
My absolute 1 favorite takeaway from this video out of every video I have watched on YT about gumbo, is the baked flower for the roux. BUT, I had to exit a little while after that. The precooked shrimp because you don't like adding raw shrimp to your pot. I just don't understand the logic. But to each his own. I ended up returning girl. Yeah yeah, I know!!! You did ya thing frfr tho, it looked amazing. But that seafood flavor you mentioned from the can of crab meat would have been achieved with the raw shrimp being added.

Crayfish would work great! The blue crab can be bought frozen in Walmart if you choose to use them, or you can buy canned lump crab meat . Either way, I’m sure you will make it delicious! Thank you for watching !

How do you save save your roux and how long can you store it?

I usually place it into freezer safe containers that seal well. It can be stored in the fridge for up to 6 months if made with broth or butter. If it's made with only oil, up to a year with proper storage. The way the one is made in the video, I usually put it in the fridge and store it for 2 weeks or in the freezer for 6 months. It works like a charm every single time.

My roux isn't thick like urs. I added the oil and 1 cup brother same time...then mixed and added the other cup broth. But it's not thick like urs but it's deep chocolate. And there are some bits. How can I use it without throwing it away? Can I strain it?
