If Microsoft is prevented from bundling Teams with their Office software, then ALL microsoft has to do is put teams as a bundle with windows and automatically install teams through updates on every windows computer. Which will have more users than the actual office software users, bypassing EU regulations all together. Anyway, I use Linux as my daily driver on a type 1 hypervisor, but my job as a DevOps engineer forces me to use windows at work.

Exactly, but I could see an even more efficient X3D variant of the 9700X and people would wait for that instead. So, up the tdp, beat the 7800X3D, release the none X variant with 65W and finally, release the 9700X3D and dominant all. Although, the 9950X3D could be the gaming monster of this generation.

Yea because it seems pretty pointless when you arent raise core counts at the $300 and $400 skews to stop losing at productivity to your major competitor whos offering way more cores and threads at the same price point while also gimping yourself to compete with yourself in what people buy your product for anyway, gaming. They couldve released with X3D but chose not to either to milk their consumer base or they still havent fixed their X3D chips above 8 cores. That or theyre just stupid i guess.

​@@EclipseWarlordAs far as I'm aware the main reason for buying the non-x3d version of a chip is if you have a program that uses cores on another CCD. The only two cases where that is a thing are the x900 and x950 chips, where only one of the two CCDs can have the extra cache. I'm not aware of any application that does not work better with more cache, though some benefit less than others. With the single CCD processors I'd say the only compelling reason to not get the x3d version is cost.

@@Jtretta The issues with x3d chips is that they clock lower than their non x3d variant. That's why they're slower in productive use cases.

There are workarounds for it. If you setup Windows Pro, select work and school, right under the bit where you need to type in a MS account, there is a a link for "another way" (forgot the exact wording), then select "Domain Join", now you create your local account. You never need to join that domain. In Windows Home, there is the Shift F10 method where you task manager that function away. There are online guides for this. So yeah sucks for Home edition, but that is the way of the world these days (everything needs an online account - Apple with iCloud, Google with Android etc)

The 120w tdp for 9700x should be a pbo option for overclockers. 65w is plenty if its capable of beating the 7700x. How is the 9700x supposed to beat the 7800x3d when it the x3d has more than double the cache. Even the 5800x3d was faster than ryzen 7000 non-x3d. People dont have patience of waiting 4 months for the actual x3d successors. The 9700x is guaranteed losing to 9800x3d when that releases.

I have the same thought process. I don't want to buy a 9000s series chip when I'm building my PC next month if the 7800x3D is not only better; it's going to be half a price 💀

The 9700x should stay in 65w, they should release a bigger tdp on 9800x as has been done before, I like to have the option of a 8 core cpu with 65w

I still use my steam controller. The Steam Controller made it possible to play non controller games with a controller. As for the new steam controller at 50 dollars I would ask WHY? Buy an xbox series x controller and you can play any game on your PC.

Gamer Meld has come up with some interesting ZEN 5 leaked benchmarks, if this is true, it's going to be insane. Still, no need to rush for an upgrade, AM5 isn't going anywhere soon 😁

He is mostly a clickbaiter, he along with others were hyping zen 5 to be a 40% IPC uplift which it isn't. 9700x is going to be faster than 7700x but it doesn't need to be faster than 7800x3d.

Kinda pointless, games that don't need 8 cores won't use 8 cores, and the CPU will clock the cores that do perform work. The same is true on x3D

The 9700x having a 120w TDP isn't an issue. People can always reduce power consumption, and the 120w TDP likely only applies to very specific use cases that are uncommon.

I like thay Bitdefender's family license also allows me to install across not only multiple machines, but multiple platforms, so while Windows Defender may be good enough, I'm also able to install it on my kid's tablets and our phones, which includes features beyond the standard detection, such as app and content blocking. Not for everyone, but def useful for our fam.

My mouse is a Redragon with 12 buttons on the side. Only thing could make it better would be that angle changing system.

As always, READ THE ARTICLE. AMD says that the 9700x doesn't outperform the 7800x3d AT GAMING. That doesn't necessarily mean that the 9700x will be worse at everything, the 7800x3d is just perfectly optimized for one specific purpose, GAMING. However gaming doesn't mean everything as even the 7700x beats the 7800x3d in rendering tasks and 3D work station tasks. If you are ONLY gaming you're probably better off waiting until the 9800x3d comes out.

Weird defense for AMD where you think people dont understand the obvious. People dont care, they arent raising core counts for the R5 and R7 so theyre gonna get stomped by whatever Intel puts out with E cores anyway because AMD still thinks 8 cores 16 threads should be $400 and 6 cores 12 threads should be $300. In other words, the Zen 5 is fucking pointless till Zen 5 X3D or just buy a cheaper 7800X3D a cheaper 13700K/147000K, or intel’s next gen. It’s a waste of sand but you know what, atleast their’s a demographic of fanboys and/or technologically ignorant people out there that they can rely on to buy their wastes of sand.

To be fair, intel was selling 2c 4t on the low end... 6c 12t now is fairly usable at least atm until more apps can use more cores. In terms of generational increase, amd has been fairly consistent in their IPC increases gen to gen. Intel has very small IPC increases in between motherboards, but high increases when they swap boards. I do think that eventually we will need more cores, but not yet. The 9700x losing to the 7800x3d more shows how good 3d chips are at gaming.

Also, if AMD just increased the clocks by 0.1ghz on non X, and 0.2ghz on X, with that IPC increase we would see incredible gains. (Imagine a 6c/12t Ryzen 3 93003D [non X but 3D], with 4.8 base and 5.4 boost for $150, killer budget CPU) Things we need to start moving on from, 4 core CPUs, 1080p (Monitors that adopted 1080p had much higher ppis, kinda like how 768p lost it's way because monitor sizes rapidly increased, 100ppi min), sub100hz, Less than 8GB of VRAM (RTX 4050M & 6500 XT i'm looking at you), 256GB SSDs and 8GB of RAM. Some of these things are ok now, but in 5 years we have to kill off at least two or three of these things. 1080p can stay on sub 22" monitors like Laptops and 21.5" office monitors, high refresh eSports displays too. sorry for the text wall btw, I rambled for too long in this one XD

@@KevinEF As an i7-4770s enjoyer, 4 cores is enough for a lot of tasks, as well as games that don't make heavy use of threads (a lot of them don't). 6 cores on the low end is incredible. Kinda wish Ryzen 3 chips were real on launch, though since 8 core CCXes in Zen 3, they would have to start specifically manufacturing 4 core CCX dies just for 4 core CPUs, which is pointless in a world where previous generations already fill the budget niche.

"Shame the 9700x is underperforming," I think to myself as I look over at the 5800X3D I got on sale last October that I will almost assuredly still be using five years from now.

9700X should be 90 or 105. it would only make sense. IDEALLY bios have all the 35/65/90/105/120W power settings. (and maybe windows power plan might finally use them?) want quiet? oh maybe I will set cpu to 35W?, balance ? 90W, gaming? 105W it is. this sounds like something that should be here since 90's when power plans were added to windows, and yet, its not here.

That just sounds like Eco mode of any AM5 CPU . They already exists. Automatically drops TDP to 105W or 65W when Eco mode is enabled.

The 9700x price performance depends on how much 7000 stock remains. If AMD times this right perhaps 7800x3d stock will be gone by the time 9000x3d comes so buying a 9700x will be the closest equivalent for that performance.

Yeah the phrase you bring up is something I heard in the South a lot. "It's only illegal for the poor if it's a fine."

Id expect it slower in gaming. But TDP isnt the issue really. The reality is that these new chips boost based on thermal throttling forcing up to 85 degrees. Increase the power draw, increase the heat and hit thermal throttle....Which would likely mean no benefit or little benefit based on their current method of boosting.

By the way not sure why anyone was surprised when the first announcement for the 9700X was placing it behind the 7800X3D. X3D gives roughly 20% extra performance, so when AMD claimed 16% IPC boost at roughly the same clocks that means the 7800X3D would be slightly faster. It helps to pay attention. 7700X was ~5% faster at launch than the 5800X3D. Nothing new guys.

The EM01 NL looks like a direct copy of my Logitech mouse.

If I can't get my i9-14900k working properly in the next month I'll be biting the bullet and getting an AMD CPU+MB.. and even though I just finished paying for it I'll be going all office space on that Intel POS. I've built and provisioned 8 PC's in the last decade for both myself and friends, but NEVER have I had this many absurd problems. Hell, I was MORE stable prior to these latest 'fixes' released by Intel and Gigabyte.. all while Intel still acts like their poo don't stink. That new steam controller looks almost identical to a Switch controller. Why not just use a switch gamepad on your PC? That's what I do. I personally don't care about the new 9000 series CPU's because my 5800X3D does everything that I need.

Depending on how it's priced, if you're after desktop use, why wouldn't you just pick up a the R9 7000x3D chips if you're after productivity. It's also not like anyone who buys productivity CPUs buys a 7800x3d when they can get a threadripper or a high core ryzen.

AMD needs to end the production of the non-x3d parts, honestly. x3d should be the new AMD standard.

I always brought 2 GPU's and SLI'ed them up till the GTX 1070 when I realise one good igpu can do most of the games now at low end 1080p. I might buy a £500+ card one day for another gaming rig but for most of my PC use watching media etc my 25w PC is good as the iGPU in 12th gen has all decoders you need. Going on the price of the 7800X3D. I would go AM4 5800X3D or 7900, as the weaker compute on the 7800X3D as it low fixed clocks it over priced if gaming isn't you PC's main task. And if you PC is only for gaming buy a console way cheaper and cleaner gaming. And you don't have to care for the spec as all game are customised for it. Not my personal ways but to many it will be. Like my nephew, hardcore gamer. has a 3090 and i9, the I9=64GB ram pointless, he play fortshit on a 144hz screen. he is never going to use anywhere near that Ram, nor tax the CPU. I think that is the same for the 7800X3D that unless your rocking a £900+ dGPU you not going to use the extra Ghz and extra V-ram. I would say the £150 premium that a X3D costs and buy a faster dGPU with the £150 saying as that could make the difference between a 4060 and 4070 TI which is a down scaled 4080 super. V-cach is just a gimmick for gamers it make them pretty shit for non gamers doing work tasks. I hoped they wouldn't make another gen of space heaters.
