    Minimalism is simplicity. The simpler you can make a system, the greater chance you have of optimizing that system to get the results you want because there are less variables to account for and less opportunities for things to go wrong. Might be weird but that’s how I often think about it.

    "less is more". coming from a culture that put sentimental value to almost everything it pretty challenging. Say keeping a broken mug or toys that were given by a person close to our hearts is very common. It took me a lot of courage to start sorting things that I need to trash to give them away. But once, I've done the 1st step, the succeeding actions is easy breezy. :) now I have so much space and time to do things I love/like.

    The joke of "take a picture, it lasts longer" has been weirdly helpful. Still a few bits of memorbelia that I have kept, but snapping a few pics of sentimental items and pitching them has been a good call on a lot of otherwise useless things. Hard drive space is cheap... You can take a lot of pictures and videos that can be rummaged through later, or put through a photo frame, but not take up mental or physical space around the house. I use to be hesitant about it, but even phone cameras are so good now, that it is good enough for the personal archives.

    A new trend is the "minimalist lifestyle." Living by bare bones. A way to not only cut many expenses but also to save money which will grow wealth. But is this good for you? As I told my own subscribers, I contend that instead of having an existence of "minimalism," living in a shack and a sleeping bag, you should adopt the mindset instead. In other words, you don't have to deprive yourself and suffer to have the minimalist mindset which will give you money to invest. The minimalist mindset person will buy only what he needs. He won't go in the winter without a coat but will by the cheapest one that does the job--not the designer label. He won't buy a 50K car when he makes 80K a year. He'll buy the 15K Honda Civic used one and save money on a lesser car payment, insurance and gas. He doesn't go to TGI Friday's every week--he goes once a month and grills at home the other three weeks. He brings his coffee from home and doesn't spend 4 bucks twice a day at Starbucks down the street from his office. See the point? You don't have to live like a monk. The minimalist mindset just cuts down on the unnecessary. If you do this you will find that not only do financial problems disappear but you will grow a ton of assets on the side. Hope this helps someone out there---Charles

    Plus less chances of theft and burglary to happen in your house. House cleaning and other chores won't be such a drag. If there are calamities like fire, land or mudslides, flash floods, sinkholes, volcanic eruptions, etc., you could save your lives and have the time to quickly take with you your household's go bag( important documents, clothes, money, medicines, emergency phone number lists, etc.), that you have prepared ahead, by the way, while fleeing. Less anguish and distraught feelings if your house is destroyed by those calamities, natural or man-made because you didn't purchase expensive items.

    This is why poor people are generally more happy than rich people. They have less material things in their lives to worry about. The rich stress over maintaining or loosing their material possessions where as the poor don't have those worries. More things, more responsibilities and more worries.

  • @CaedenV

    @CaedenV

    2 жыл бұрын

    Factually just untrue. Poor people have chronic stresses and problems which show up in shorter lifespans and worse health. And most anti-minimalist people are dirt poor because when you are so use to having nothing, you cling to everything well beyond the point where they are helpful to you. Simpler people are happier, but they tend to be in the middle class of a given society. They have their locally expected needs provided, they don't have the bulk of society after their stuff, and generally have the free time for leasure. The poor have very hard and real problems. The rich have weirdly complicated problems. Average people with low ambitions, and focus on what they like rather than what they think they ought to like... That is happiness.

    The terminology is fairly new (it really sounds like something from out of the 1980s), but the actions DO speak louder than words; I must be [way?] ahead of myself because all I have is a storage unit where there's stuff I salvaged from my [Grandmother's] house before it got sold due to foreclosure (my major home city was engaging in the latest financial and irresponsible turmoil), and a work altercation from a former job (I won't go into detail, but it WAS 'a few choice words' that planted seeds of destruction); it took little, big, and bare tasks for 7 years to clean out the place quietly until issues surfaced ONLY to realize material possessions are distractive, yet, issues alone remain because it's about people; legitimately, people ARE eternal and (" ") we can't take anything to and/or beyond the grave anyway. . .on my end, I still remain disheartened at the way things turned out for the past 15 years (not out of the woods yet: I have a real estate problem, although I do have a second full time job-not thrilled about the current muscle movements-and renting a roomspace), but I have moved on in the described years: only music-n-ministry is working out as I was doing per decade (1990s, 2000s, 2010s. . . ) before the reality earthquake came along-I will not say it's God's plan because that's spiritualizing with blind eyes and lying tongues; currently I do have good days when I'm allowed to pay close attention but not allowed to see what's up ahead. . . Minimalism is another code word for decluttering, downsizing, finding contentment, yet, this was a very good video though.

    I disagree with your logic and it really has nothing to do with having possessions. I'm single I have no kids I'm not a homeowner and I rent and I have more stuff than anybody. My house is loaded my attic is full I have a 10x14-ft shed just loaded with stuff. I am a pack of that hoarder but I have good things I have antiques and collectibles. So by avoiding marriage and not having kids and renting has nothing to do with how much stuff people can collect. The people with the most stuff are single because they have more money and freedom. I wish I did get married and was a homeowner and had kids because I would have less stuff.

    I appreciate being minimalist with clothes and "stuff".. but I have started prepping foods and emergency items in case crap happens.. The C., freeze in TX last winter, storms, ect... And this gives me peace of mind just as much as cleaning out closets. Don't forget hobbies aren't cheap or minimal... The example of painting requires expensive paints, brushes and other painting tools.. and let's not even start on cost of canvas. BUT I do get the point.. hobbies make life enjoyable.. so they are good. But best advice is to not accept negative people in your life... This might mean not answering when Mom calls.. and move 500 miles away.. holidays only.

    In life, we really don't need a lot of things in order for us to be happy. There are a lot of people who keep on following and buying the trends and spends money over things they don't really use every day and some can even burn themselves with debts for it. It's so sad that not all can really care about having a financial freedom and financial stability nowadays.

    I think being frugal has been a tradition for a long time, it's just the current generation is rediscovering it due to the increasingly bad economic situation.

    With Biden in office I have become a minimalist and it was not by choice. Working harder, own less and less time for hobbies. Never been greedy but , this is a real struggle. This is all BS when your lacking the basic's.

    I think this video means having things organized and keeping only what you feel you need. I don't think it means having one of something. It just means reduced clutter inside ones home.

    The Japanese set their sleeping quilts on the floor when it's time to go to bed. Now if she leaves, it's her loss, not her partner's. Are you familiar with Guy De Maupassant's short story The Necklace? The moral of the story is learning to be content with what you have. Otherwise, you will end up more miserable than before. You can research about that short story penned by that French writer.

    Minimalism has also drawbacks 1. No shopping-related happiness. 2. No possibility to show off. 3. It curtails living standards. 4. It makes children envious of peers whose parents don't impose minimalism 5. It's basically a voluntary form of poverty.

    Says who? About kids, proper and Biblical values and morals should be inculcated to them. Each of us must be taught to cut our coat according to our cloth. We should be contented with the available clothes we wear and food we eat. After all, God never abandons us in any way. Shopping? Window shopping is fine or tweak the shape and form of our clothes then mix and match. A little innovation and resourcefulness go a long way. Showing off? Why? That's nonsense! Poverty? Real poverty is not giving creativity and resourcefulness a shot, instead we just buy unnecessary items that were never helpful to us from the start in the first place. Minimalism helps us in boosting artistry, individualism and productivity. Look at Marie Kondo.
