The 8 Jhanas: Ancient Meditative States To Escape The Simulation
The eight jhanas of Theravada Buddhism represent the discrete stages of meditation that a practitioner must progress through in order to reach enlightenment. In Therevada Buddhism, this perfected state of being is called Nibbana and is characterized by the end of samsara, meaning the cycle of rebirth, and the elimination of suffering. Due to their significance on the path to liberation and spiritual purity, the eight jhanas are a major focus of study and contemplation for all students of Theravada Buddhism.
Chapter 1: Roots of Theravada Buddhism
History: Theravada Buddhism developed out of the Sthaviravada branch of Buddhism around the third century B.C.E. and is widely accepted as the oldest form of Buddhism. It is also considered to be the most traditional, being that the sect only accepts the teachings of the Pali Canon which is believed to contain the earliest recorded teachings of the Buddha. The practices of Theravada monks are said to be the same as those of the original “sangha”, or monastic community, that the Buddha instructed while he was still alive. This strain of Buddhism evolved and got its moniker in Sri Lanka before eventually spreading throughout the East and becoming dominant in Myanmar and later Cambodia and Laos. The goal of a Theravada Buddhist is to become what they call an “arahant”. An “arahant” is a perfected sage who has attained enlightenment through strict adherence to the Vinaya Pitaka, the monastic rules as determined by the Buddha. This way of life that the Buddha claimed led to Nibbana was called the eightfold path.
These eight necessary elements of Buddhist practice consist of right view, right aspiration, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. It is within this final step of right concentration that the eight jhanas come into focus.

I love meditation nothing on this Earth compares. The possibilities are endless with it. Go from the worst mood to the most happiest joyful mood ever. Connect with God and the divine. Leave your body and travel other realms. Feel bliss like you’ve never experienced before that can last for days on end. Meditation cultivates healthier habits. It cleans out the subconscious mind. It keeps negative thoughts from being able to enter your mind. You develop discernment, truth, and wisdom from it. You get amazing downloads from the universe. It helps you live a better life. I could go on and on but yeah meditation is the best :)

And what about the thoughts of trauma, past life miseries and bad experiences? When I meditate, the past hovers more rapidly and painfully just to give more misery... When is one able to get rid of it through meditation? And I meditate on Anahat naad for your knowledge

@@ThoughtCriminalMusic For meditation I sit still as possible with my back straight and relax everything. With my eyes closed I focus on my third eye and concentrate only on the breath. How fast it is how slow how soft. When thoughts arise I let them pass by giving them no energy and go back to focusing only on the breath. As the time passes thoughts get less and less and you reach a state of pure awareness with zero thoughts at all. That’s the space where you want to try and stay at. I usually always do the Wim Hof Method or some other breathing exercise before my meditation session it’s a must to get the mind ready. Hope this helps.

@@Wow_serendipityYou should try dealing with things like that by doing hard challenging yoga. Do yoga first then meditate afterwards whenever in that day. It will make everything much easier. You want to face your past and trauma like a warrior. You want to confront it willingly with the yoga and meditation and let it all come bubbling up to the surface. Through consistent daily practice you will gain power over those thoughts and emotions instead of those thoughts and emotions having the power over you. If those things ever come up again they will seem like a little fly that you can easily swat away. It won’t bother you anymore. But daily practice is a must.

@@Adam.0777 Cheers and NAMASTE to you MY DIVINE FRIEND ! not often one see such uplifting comments... sounds for sure that you have tasted Meditation ! i was inspired to start meditating by Lord Buddha.. when i heard in his sutras once that he called 'normal people' that do not meditate, as 'insane'... simply if one does not meditate - can not be called Sane.... it blew my mind ! 15 years ago i started , it led me in my case to my Guru and further initiations in Yoga. But Meditation is simply Nuclear Bomb of benefits... one can only taste it to understand... words fail miserably, but they are needed in todays word too. NAMASTE TO YOU AGAIN !

Excellent intro into 8 Jhanas ! Very well done
Hi thanks for such an amazing video❤❤ I would like to remember that the Jhanas alone dont take you to the state of an Arahant. It has to be done through the understanding of Upekka, equanimity, and Sama Sati that has to be done through Vedana sensation in orden to break the cicle of dependent origination(paticcasamupada). As taught in the Sati pathana Sutta. Even the budha before becoming enlightened achived the 7th and 8th Jhana, and understood that he had not erased the anusaya Kilesas, deep rooted impurities. It is only through equanimity that you can clean the old stock of impurities. I hope this helps🤍🤍 Much love to all who have read this message😊😊✨✨💜
I feel excited whenever Asangoham releases a new vid! And after one like this, I feel motivated to deepen my practice. So many of your vids end up in my ''favorites'' file for future re watching. It would be wonderful to see Asangoham investigate Vipassana meditation.

As A former monk, Buddhist Scholar and jhana practitioner. there is so much about this video that is a very inaccurate portrayal of the teaching of the suttas and how enlightenment is viewed. Its also very inaccurate in terms of how jhana works in practice. That part of the video is absolute nonsense. Totally inaccurate and shows the write is not an actual practitioner. This video is like learning how to play guitar from someone who read about playing guitar but has never actually played a guitar. There is so much really off here its too much to explain in the comments however, Right from the opening its incorrect. I live in Thailand, a Buddhist country where Jhana is still taught and practiced all over the forest monasteries. As Buddha had the practiced the jhanas for a long time and left them for a time to practice other austerities. He left them because he saw that by themselves they did not eliminate karma. Later he came back to them and discovered various ways of vipassana- ways in which he could use the consciousness amplified by the jhanas, to eliminate the self concept. The Jhanas are 1 side of the Samatha Vipassana system that Lord Gautama taught. Also Theravada is not the oldest school of Buddhism, as after Buddha left the physical world his teachings split into different sects - 14 actually. The only one of those 14 that survives today is what is called Theravada but even that has many variations in Asia now. There is so much inaccurate oversimplification in this video Of the teachings that incorrect, I really recommend you do not use this as a source of understanding of the jnana's. The Buddha never taught that Jhana leads to nirvana/enlightenment in any of the suttas. This extrapolation shows this writer has never even read the teaching of Buddha, in fact his view in this video is a Bhramin view of Jhana, not a Buddhist view.. You'd be better off watching Samaneri Jayasara. Ajahn Brahm or Ayya Khema or someone who actually practices the jhanas. Read the Pottapadda Sutta if you want one of the clearest expositions of the jhana teaching from the Buddha.

You sound quite spiteful for a former monk. Of course you won't get to learn all about the Jhanas from one video. Stop nitpicking. And this is just an introduction, serious practitioners will seek their Sangha. Good day.

Great video. There was one thing that isn’t true. You don’t have to be accomplished in the 8 jhannas for enlightenment. All that’s need is completing the 4 paths using vipassana which is powered by concentration.
Thank you.

So Jhana is Samadhi but in different name ?
There are 4 stages of Stream Entry. Sotapanna being the very first was missed. Otherwise an excellent intro the profound science of mind and matter taught by Buddha . Bhavatu Sabba Mangalam🙏🏾😊
Sounds good. But I disagree that things end. Nothing ends and nothing begins. To think so is a type of mentation.
Go Mahayana and bypass the Jhana😊All is empty, no need to struggle or look for special states.❤
Ez
Once again the really spiritual video. Channel know the deep spiritual consciousness in any topics. Other channel just try to make spiritual video. In this process they make really stupid worldly stupid things.
Ummm did you get that wrong? Buddhism originated in India not Sri Lanka, so if your saying Theravada stays true to the earliest sangha which was in India, why then did you say that it originated in Sri Lanka. ? Sri Lanka may have preserved the pali canon which it got from India but Buddhism of all strains originated in India, including Tibetan variants and Zen.
0:14 Nirvana?
Makes me feel sad 😢 The only time I became a monk was during a funeral I have to shave my head all over again ?
🤍
There is no escape. Jhanas are not to escape, they are not to go anywhere or do anything. YOU cannot ‘do’ Jhana. Jhana is an awareness and acceptance of the present as it is. YOU can only be aware of the effects of Jhana, the ripples.

There is a place of escape, a place where profound peace is achieved. I swear to you, there is a escape, but a self discipline is absolutely necessary to reach the shores of this new home.
“To escape the simulation”. An algorithm is defined as a set of instructions. A simulation is defined “as a model that mimics the operations of an existing or proposed system”. If you are following instructions and are imitating behaviors in order to belong to a system/ to reach a state, then you are in simulation, or, at the very least, simulating. You’re just in a different one than the one you’re attempting to escape.

@@JanaiaHamelThe pursuit is there until that realization. Once you realize that there is no self, then, yes, there's no pursuit, simulation or becoming.
