Reading the replies to your comment tells me exactly why the Catholic Church is in such decrepit condition in the souls of the people. SICK! VERY SICK!!! Not the popes alone, but the people replying. Stick with Jesus' teachings and His consolation. Forget the posing priests jesting about holy and sacred things. Forget the popes who pollute the sacred seat of Peter. Return to our Lord Jesus Christ alone for comfort and purify yourself! Each man will be judged for his own works. Purify YOURSELVES, therefore, humbling yourself under the mighty hand of God. And if you do, THEN He will lift you up and comfort you.

I try to not be overly judgmental or reactive but It is really hard to ignore what happened in the Vatican Gardens no matter what you call it. There didn't appear to be any role for Christ for whom St. Francis gave up everything "earthly". Yes, St. Francis appreciated "mother earth" and was a friend to animals, but his main goal was to "rebuild the church and live as Christ". Why else would he rebuild the Church at San Damiano? Ora pro nobis!

@jpbaugh my best friend for over 40 years is BAPTIST, my favorite spokesman is Reverend Stephen Davies (I listen to him DAILY). BOTTOM LINE: WE ARE CHRISTIANS. I am a catholic (birth to death). Did you notice "catholic" is lowercase, this is very important, the meaning is not Religion but defintion, "UNIVERSAL" . catholic means UNIVERSAL, all faiths that are Christian, believe in the CHRIST, who is the SON OF GOD. ONLY JESUS is the way to Heaven.

The Synod: not a word about teaching the Indians how to pray to the Lord's Prayer or Hail Mary ... what a shame! The church is NOT an NGO. Have the bishops lost their minds? St. Paul and St. Peter never burned incense to the pagan gods, never compromised to their culture. Not surprisingly, traditionalist movements have grown exponentially. Not surprisingly, St. Michael's burning sword will be felt.

You're a bloody liar, because when that ugly statue was unveiled with what is supposed to be a pregnant woman, do you know what the first thing Pope Francis did was? Asked the people to pray the Our Father with him. So, you aren't telling the truth, this is exactly what I expect from radical traditionalists, though. You give real traditionalists, as well as Conservative Catholics like myself, a bad name, because people end up lumping us with you.

@Gerardo Guijarro don't even bother with these protestants mate. It was Judas Maccabeus that prayed to God for the dead to be forgiven of their sins, but protestants will never believe that because it's from the book of Macabees which they discarded along with Wisdom and the other 5 deuterocanónicos books.

What distinguishes Pope Francis is that he's just not personally a mistake, but that he is trying to lead the church in a direction which rejects tradition. I know European history and I know ecclesiastical history. Like King David - an adulterer, a drunkard and a murderer - there have been bad popes. However, there is a distinction to be made between sins of the flesh and sins against the Faith. The most serious sin a man can commit is that against the Faith. The worst pope we have had in 2,000 years is the one presently occupying the throne of Peter.

The Catholic Talk Show, I recently read “At the Court of the Borgia” by Bishop Burchard, which he wrote while he was Master of Ceremonies at the Vatican. He mentions the Banquet of the Chestnuts, telling us that it was an orgy. He also says that Giulia was the pope’s concubine. He also deliberately leaves out details about the death of Juan Borgia, and tells of the war crimes that Cesare Borgia committed in re-conquering the Papal States.

These guys were definitely not saints. I think it’s especially important to point out the faults of men within the Church to highlight the miracle of its survival to this very day. What scares me more than any of these personal(and sometimes public) sins of these Pope’s, are the problems facing the Church today. I view the sins of a pope who makes clear violations against natural law as a lesser evil, than one who leads his sheep into corruption and confusion in regards to Church teaching. Of course I will not deny the stuff these older pope’s did was pure evil, and I’m not necessarily speaking of the current pontiff in particular. Rather any pope who attempts to harm the Church in its orthodoxy and it teaching are doing a great evil. I am reminded of pope Honorius, who’s only real fault was to not preach against the heresy of Monotheism(I think that’s the one). He was more or less condemned as a heretic by certain councils, and at the very least condemned for being light on heresy. This particular heresy wasn’t even that popular either. This situation was nonetheless, taken as a major threat to the Church. Now put that into perspective of the things going on today. It’s scary.

If you are among the anti-Catholics or are hearing trash from them, then learn the truth. Go back and read the Church Fathers and writings of the early Church. Read the Didache, the first catechism of the Church from the mid-first century. There was ONLY the Catholic Church for 1500 years until Luther decided to cure his demons by inventing a theology in which he was guaranteed salvation. There were no Protestant churches during that entire time. Don't take a pass on what anti-Catholics say. Almost all converts to Catholicism state that one or both of the following two items convinced them to become a Catholic: 1. Reading the Church Fathers, 2. The Authority of the Church (i.e., there is no authority in Protestantism which has caused the divisions). Finding out the truth breaks down all barriers.

Everyone has a side in this modern age, and many are influenced by what they THINK they know. As Catholics by our doubting Church, we are losing our faith in Jesus to keep the Church on an even keel to the salvation of souls. Jesus said that the Church will last to the end of the age. Believe Him! Maybe we should rely on prayer a lot more and worry about straightening our own lives. And yes, Pray for Our Holy Father. I believe he is a good, decent, and humble man. Sometimes I don't know what is happening, but I rely upon the presence of the Holy Spirit to give him counsel and to protect the Church from its enemies, both without and within.

No. You are perhaps confusing the concepts of "impeccability" with "infallibility". There are very strict times and conditions to infallible papal statements. (2 to 7 times depending on who you ask.) Popes can (and often have been) bad people who make mistakes without countering the actual Catholic doctrine of infallibility.

I hear such awful comments about Pope Francis. I would say that Benedict XVI was the worst we've had in a very long time. Many bishops petitioned the "Holy Inquisition" which Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) was in charge of, to return priests who molested children to the lay state. Ratzinger sat on those petitions. He didn't act on them. Those priests, knowing they wouldn't be punished, continued to molest children. Pope Francis has directly defrocked the most egregious priests and so far even two cardinals and I don't know how many bishops. I do know and know of at least one: Archbishop Anthony Apuron, the Bishop of Guam. I knew him when I was a member of the Capuchin community in Guam and he was a brother Capuchin. Pope Francis, a simple man has set an example of simple living for the clergy and us, called out bishops whose lifestyle is over the top. He has shown the love of the Lord to those who the Church persecuted and has asked the church to look at some ares where Jesus's love needs to shine. I just can't see where he is such a bad pope. Actually I admire him.

I don't think Pope Francis is a bad man, I truly believe that he is trying to steer the Church in order for it to speak to today's society. However he is misguided in the way that he is doing it. It's a shame that he is discarding the old traditions. The Church needs to adapt as it did during the counter reformation but never abandon traditions.

Look when you consider ALL religion is an ENTIRELY MAN MADE construct, if what you're getting at is that there's some queen in a chasuble that wants two guys to tie the knot - or two lezzies to play perpetual scissor sisters of the most extravagant indulgence - and that that turns you off and you don't like it - that's sort of fine, you're allowed not to like it for yourself. But as is always so transparently obvious with you God-botherers is that you are all so far from even the basic precepts of "Christianity" (just another in a looooonggg line of WHOLLY made up, man made religions) that it only drives yet another nail in the coffin as to what a load of old horseshit all religions are.... great steaming piles of fresh grassy dung of millennia of myths and sagas and legends and fairy stories all chewed over time and time again then sicked up and chewed again and added into the mix with some fresh stuff, then down it goes with a bit more spit into the second stomach for a nice good long fermentation, then some of it gets farted out, some of it gets stuck, some of it gets absorbed and some of it squirts out in a nice, loose, green, lumpy, reeking jet. Just like the Ancient Egyptians got their gods from somewhere, the Greeks got theirs from the Egyptians, the Jews did too, the Romans got theirs from the Greeks and a lot of really dreary men got together and thrashed out what "stuff" a Middle Eastern lunatic with Messianic delusions called Jesus was made of and how similar that stuff was to God stuff and gaaaaahhhhhhhd can't you SEE what a load of old nonsense it is???? Yes of course you can but religion gives you such a great excuse to continue your homophobia and your tight little position on everything cos you're so scared about what people may say about you. . .
