@@eleniel917 The same thing we call inflammation is what the body uses just to move blood around. Humidity is a vasodilator - it causes change to the location and concentration of blood. Your body is responding TOO HARD so that normal blood movements = actual allergic reaction. I am also allergic to humidity (and all forms of heat, and sunlight) because these are all things that trigger vasodilation (aka inflammation)

I'm allergic to my own sweat. Yes, it was diagnosed by a dermatologist. If sweat remains too long on my skin, I get hives on that area. I have to rinse it off quickly after exercise. During spring and summer, depending on the weather I have to shower at least 2 or 3 times a day, or else I get hives on the inside of my arms, armpits, around my neck, groin, and behind the knees. Generally I deal with it by rinsing with cold water and not scratching .If it gets too bad, I have antihistamine cream.

I went through a period when I really thought I had a water allergy, as each shower would render me useless for an hour or so afterward, just lying under my sheets, clawing my arms and legs nonstop, due to the itching that was beyond itching, like thousands of stingy electric shocks occurring. For some reason it was mainly my upper arms and thighs, but also butt and stomach to some extent. And yes, sometimes my trachea would spasm and feel tight, like after crying. I tried all kinds of things and even considered getting an expensive filter on my shower, but even rain or just high humidity could trigger severe itching so I knew it wasn't anything in my city's water. Then one day I tried applying coconut oil in the shower, after reading a tip about it. But all it did was leave me greasy; hot water didn't rinse it completely away, nor did a towel. And I was still left itching like crazy as usual, but the nice thing I noticed was the lubrication of the oil made scratching more effective ....then.... I noticed something gross: grayish colored oil collecting wherever I raked it, meaning dirt. So I grabbed a plastic bank card and started scraping it from my upper arm, kind of fascinated at this point. And the craziest thing happened; I saw all these tiny, nearly transparent hairs spring up from the skin wherever I'd just scraped, kind of slowly like a butterfly coming out of its' cocoon. It turned out all the places where I thought my skin was just bumpy was actually TONS of ingrown hairs, and getting moist aggravated them. Since then I have just made a point to exfoliate extensively a couple times a month, and never had the electric post-shower itch ever again.

@@sprinklescake1137 Well certainly I had heard the term 'exfoliate' before, but only as a beauty tip for the face, ha. And I had used apricot scrub since I was a teen in the late 80's, for my face. But all that the rest of my body seemed to need was mere wiping with body wash and rinsing ....until my late 30's. Apparently by then changes had occurred without me noticing. I remember my daughter who was just 6 or 7 sitting next to me when I was wearing a tank top, tracing her fingers on my upper arm and asking why it was so bumpy. I was like, "I dunno, some people are just bumpy," without realizing I didn't USED TO be bumpy (nor red, god my upper arms had gotten so angry red by that point). And it was not long after that when I made the accidental discovery that, in reality, big areas of my skin were encased in a layer of dirty dead skin. Now I'm non-bumpy, non-itchy, and all the same color, LOL.

And the need to exfoliate is just one example, lol. Now I'm 48 and I could tell you all about my 2 humidifiers and humidity gauge made for a reptile aquarium that I keep handy to read all through the winter, or I'll wind up with the electric zap clawing all over again, exfoliated or not!

Cooking tomato sauce in a stainless steel pan is apparently really bad. All vegetation has nickel. There's more in everything you think is healthy like almonds, walnuts, beans, lentils, garbanzo beans, green leafy vegetables 😔. What's lowest is meat and dairy. Supposedly, this happened to me when I was really young, but then it never happened again, but around last year, I broke out in hives because I (presumably) stayed outside in the sun for too long. I think my cold urticaria turned into hot urticaria; either that or it's now both. Both were one-time episodes and they've never happened again.

It is definitely a thing. It doesn’t seem to be on most doctor’s radars though. The first time it happened to me I said the only unusual thing I did was go swimming (in cold water). The second time, I took a cold shower. When it happened again after playing with my dog in the snow I ended up figuring it out for myself. You should research anaphylaxis. It has more symptoms than the video said and, in my experience, cold urticaria causes the weird ones.

I mostly get it on my thighs when I walk in cold air, sometimes on my arms when I'm riding a bike and once I got it from cutting cold potatos from the fridge. The weird thing is, I don't get hives like every medical website says, I just get red, itchy skin on the affected bodypart and it lasts for about 10 minutes. How about you? Did you learn anything in those 4 years about your allergies?

My dermographia only did that once, when I was under a sun lamp with UVB as part of its spectrum. The entire side facing the light welted up like The Exorcist, then, when I turned around, the other side did it. I already knew I had dermographia, but not like that. Strangely tho, it never happened in ordinary sunlight, nor in tanning beds with only UVA rays. I was a lifeguard 33/34 years ago. For info's sake, I'm olive complected, just 1% Black, and 1% Native American, with a couple of genes from India (a tanning allele) and North Africa (a 7x melanin booster), that somehow made it into my otherwise EuroAmerican family. Side note: bigots frequently demand to know my ethnicity, or just call me ugly names based on thinking I'm Middle Eastern or Mexican. I hate bigots. As if dermographia wasn't enough to deal with. And if it's like that for me, I know it's worse for people with darker skin. But look at us all here, different tones, all the same underlying issue. The world could learn from us...

In my case it get's a bit worse every year. Not too bad, though. The hand swelling, oh I know it good. Touching the cold steering wheel of my car in winter without gloves... Not a good idea. I learned how to knit in order to knit myself a lot of nice and warm wooly scarves, socks and gloves x'D I enjoy autumn and winter, but only when I am rightfully dressed. When it is really cold in winter (and it is where I live), then I use a marigold weather balsam (usually intended for baby skin) for my face. I have cold urticaria and my hives can be triggered by getting out of a hot shower and walking into a cold room, walking into an air conditioned building during the summer, or any time my body temperature rises like during running or even laughing and then being in a cool room. It definitely sucks but it can usually be treated with some Zyrtec and warm clothes

I actually have two of these allergies... my body hates me.. or just wants to protect me lol. Its not serious like many people but it is a pain. So I have an allergy to the cold... Even though I'm Canadian in the eastern coast. I break out in hives and my hands can swell up just by putting my hands quickly under cold running water. During winter, i need to watch out since my fingers can swell so badly and painfully. And my face... oh my face... And the hives are everywhere, to the point that they grow so big, they join together with other hives lol. The second one is vibration. When I was young, I always wondered when I was clapping my hands, why it would itch and become red and inflamed. I found out way later one its a mild case of vibration allergy... Go figure... And that also goes for showers, the pressure of the water hitting me, hottubs and their jets, etc etc.

A friend of mine developed an allergy to the cold while living in Israel. She took a drink of ice water and fainted. It came on suddenly and fortunately not during college at the very cold Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. The allergy got slowly less sensitive and eventually went away entirely after a few years. Now she can be in the cold with no ill effects again.

I was kinda happy seeing mine talked about! I'm allergic to cold, but for me it's pretty mild all things considered. I only really get it on my hands and feet, as well as a couple joints (mainly elbows and knees), and so far i haven't had any issues other than welts and swelling in the area. I always feel weird when it happens, because it feels like I'm being over dramatic somehow? I don't know if that's a common thing for people with odd allergies or similar things. Either way, it's not great, especially since I can't handle heat.

Idk if you've done it before on this channel and I missed it, but I would love a breakdown of Raynaud's syndrome. It's a weird genetic thing that makes your hands, feet, nose, ears and other organs lose blood flow due to cold. I have it and live in Michigan so it sucks. Basically, when it's cold blood vessels shrink a ton ( I know there's a word for this but I can't remember) but they shrink too much and blood flow is lost almost immediately. The only ways I've gotten around it is wearing gloves that are already warm, using hand warmers, or running my hands under lukewarm to hot water. It's also quite painful. For example, if I reach into the freezer for 20 seconds my hands become so cold and bringing warmth back is painful

The funny thing is that I always got it at the end of the actual disease cycle, so I first got sick and just as I was about to get well again I developed hives all over my body and had to wait that out as well. I used to have Dermographism really bad (diagnosed by my Neurogastroenterologist, confirmed by my primary neurologist and others), the thing was it never was consistent. Sometimes it barely happened, I could still draw on my skin but it wasn't bad. Then in some cases it was bad enough to become about as itchy as hives, very hot to burning hot, my throat would also get really really really itchy and kind of swollen (though that might have been EoE or other things). Then after the last bad cycle, it just gradually went away to the point that I don't notice it anymore. My skin still turns really red from contact very quickly, not sure what that's about lol.

This is proof that I had an allergy to my period when I was younger. Every month when I would exercise or eat chicken or turkey at the beginning of my cycle, I would have these types of reactions. It was awful. I remember once I had an orchestra concert right around Thanksgiving and I was on my period. I ate a little bit of turkey, and proceeded to get ready to go do my solo performance. When I got to school, I started having very itchy skin, mostly on my hands and feet. I then got very nauseated and threw up violently and I started having trouble breathing. They called an ambulance and I was taken to the ER. They always called it an unknown allergic reaction. I know now that I had a serious allergy to my period, poultry, and some exercise. I wish a doctor would have studied me back then. I had a hysterectomy 14 years ago, and since then, I’ve never dealt with this again.

#3 Cold Urticaria is something I have and I was diagnosed with at thirteen (I'm currently 31). Fortunately, I've never gone into anaphylaxis, but if I'm exposed to the cold or drink something too cold I break out into hives and experience the angioedema (primarily in my hands and feet where circulation is poor compared to the rest of my body). My Doctor prescribed me Zyrtec when I was first diagnosed and has suggested I carry a jacket with me. Fortunately I live in Florida where it's rarely cold, but there are occasions where the AC is too low or in the winter months we sometimes get cold days/weeks/months and I break out. I've also started to notice that if my blood pressure is too high or lower than normal I'm more prone to a more severe reaction when exposed to the cold.

I have it so severe that sometime just a gust of wind or even nothing at all can cause my skin to burst out into hives so painful and intense I have to jump into cold water. Luckily! I’m on an extremely high dosage of Zyrtec and since being on it I’ve been able to get control over my flare ups! I also keep my skin very moisturized and that helps a ton to cut down on flare ups!

My mother has a couple of weird allergies. First, she is allergic to pepper, more specifically to capsaicin, which gives pepper its heat. This makes eating out almost impossible. We hsve to tell the server, "No black pepper, red pepper, bell peppers, paprika, etc. " Her other weird allergy is that she is allergic to metal. She first developed this when she got her ears pierced as a child. Since then she can't have any kind of metal jewelry against her skin. She can stll handle coins and silverware, but if it is touching her more than an hour or two, she will break out in a rash.

TheBackyardChemist My mother's GI track would disagree. Even a little black pepper sets her mouth on fire, and that fire keeps going the along the whole trip, ending in diarrhea. Any pepper in the air makes it hard for her to breathe, so no cooking spicy food when she visits. If she uses a capsaicin pain cream, she breaks out. If there isn't capsaicin in black pepper, than there is something close enough to trigger her allergy.

The skin all over my body would start itching, especially after a shower. And if I scratched it, it only got worse and I could see red swollen stripes exactly where I had been scratching. But it's almost gone now after I discovered a diet that works for me. Basically just a lot of vegetables/fruit and meat/fish

  • @AveryMilieu

Fourty years ago the doctor gave me a list and told me to avoid every food on it for two weeks. My migraine went away. I stopped weeping uncontrollably. The brain fog cleared - some. For a decade it seemed to get better, I added some of the forbidden foods back into my life and pretended to eat normally. Then the neuro pains started. Shooting pains in the extremities - like electric shock but in slow mo. Looking at my diet I started to eliminate things again again again. At this point my diet EXCLUDES almost all SEEDS and SEED PODS. There is a formal diet called the Lectin Avoidance Diet that is very similar. IF I ignore these rules even in the smallest way, I can expect twitches, spasms and those shooting pains. I will develop gut issues and feel like I'm coming down with the flu. "Oh! Those aren't allergies." is what I get from the AMA. Since I can't prove the rashes I get from chlorinated water short of getting naked in the water (and refuse to demonstrate what it does internally for the amusement of medical personnel) I get the shaking head that harmless crazies get, the tinfoil hat response... So why not talk about these non-allergies? Admit that there is more to allergies than rashes and anaphylaxis.

The rash appears on torso and thighs when I am immersed or drenched with it. Goes away after about 40 minutes. Migraines I won't demonstrate. I once got dosed with water that had been run through a cracked Brita filter. That was the first time I got the rash just from drinking it. was sick for 10 days before someone finally decided I should have medical attention. Two liters of saline IV and a suggestion I see an internist about my spasm'd gut. Several offers for "something for the pain", which I refused. I drink distilled water these days, don't trust filters.

When I was little I had a friend who was allergic to snow. We lived in Massachusetts. It wasn’t the snow per se that she was allergic too but instead like a mold that grew on top of it. So she could play in the stop as it was falling but a short time after the snow stopped falling she had to go inside and avoid it until it melted. Her mom was a super clean freak and like other super clean freak mothers, they all ended up with all their children having horrible allergies. Be happy it you had a normal mom and not one scared of dust and dirt.

My brother is allergic to the cold! We found out when he injured his arm and icing it made it significantly worse. He ended up in the hospital due to his reaction to the ice. Luckily, it's not so severe that an accidental cold shower could kill him, but freezing wind and ice are definitely a concern.
