My son hated tummy time so I rarely did it. He’s 5 months now, rolling both ways, sits unassisted for a few minutes and almost crawling. Your baby can and will develop without tons of tummy time!

Same! Mine would cry at every tummy time session so I just stopped and figured well it would be nice if she could crawl a little later at least I won't be chasing her around yet... She learned crawling at 6 months, and I didn't get the rest I needed

I have to agree with you on tummy time. Tummy time is important, yes, but the child develops everyday so does not necessarily need tummy time from day one. However, the earlier they start, logically, the quicker they get used to it. . You just have to keep encouraging them along in their developmental stages.

My kids were very different as well. My daughter... Crawled at 3.5 months. Big baby to begin with. Her brother, didn't move until 10 months... Baby boy, he did it at 6 months. But.. life the video said, every child is different. So nobody should be judging or putting their baby in a bubble. He/She will move when they are ready. But do give them time to try..

My 5 month old loves rolling from back to tummy, but seems to have no desire to roll from tummy to back lol. She is starting to lift her bottom into the air, and she is getting better at pushing up and extending her arms. It’s so wonderful to watch her achieve these milestones. I swear, last week she was flopping over when I’d sit her up, and now she can stay in a sitting-up position with little support. ❤

Fellow NICU parents here. My son was born a month early due to emergency c section. He was in the NICU for almost a month. He always hated tummy time so we didn’t do it constantly.. especially with two months of colic. He’s almost 8 months, he can’t crawl yet, but he can sit up and is starting to stand with help, and has taken a couple steps! He can only roll from back to tummy, but still has trouble going from tummy to back. He also just got his bottom teeth!

It's called "creeping" when on hands and knees(according to Gesell's original longitudinal research).! Tummy crawling is an important ability made possible by inhibition of the asymmetrical tonic neck reflex. Children and adults unable to tummy crawl lack maturation of the ATNR, but therapeutic maturation/inhibition can result in passing standards for fire fighter or military combat mobility is possible.. Tummy crawling with a strong leg extension can be helped by giving resistance to infant leg thrusting from early infancy--just resist the thrust a tiny bit to build strength and when the tummy crawl brain network is ready the child will take off automatically (so prepare the environment for all that exploration).

I wish I found this video months ago. My baby daughter is 6 months old, but we are a little bit behind on these skills. I’ve been working more on tummy time, and she can roll from belly to back (she can almost roll from back to belly, but is stopped by her arm). She can sit when in her high chair and her rocking chair, but not when entirely unsupported. Her head balance is good, and we spend a lot of time holding her up, so that part is good. She also wants to walk when we hold her in a standing position, moving her legs forward to make steps. Obviously, she is not on her full weight, as her muscles aren’t strong enough, but you can see that she wants to get around and explore everything. Hopefully, I’m not too far behind and she can reach these milestones soon. I’ll be using this video as reference. Thanks for putting it together!

So, my baby army crawled before sitting up. He is now able to sit up at 5 months and balance on his hands in front of him. But he army crawled at 15 weeks. We think he'll sit up unassisted soon as every few days he gets more and more into sitting up. He puts himself into tummy time from the sitting position and all other positions like lying down etc. I say this so other parents can see a different order on the way to proper crawling

My little fella is 9 months and not crawling but the steps I've noticed after the initial rolling phase so far are: 1. On tummy, being able to prop himself up on hands and rotate on the spot. 2. While on Tummy, thrashing arms and legs like he's a beetle in the water 3. While on Tummy, Pushing himself backwards on slippery surfaces, or into a sitting position. 4. On hands and knees, rocking back and forward or doing hip thrusts 5. Transferring to a kneeling position and doing little lunges and flailing his arms or clapping. So far no planking or army crawling. Maybe he'll skip those steps, or do them in a quick phase. Or maybe it'll still take a while! He seems to be loving it though and I love seeing each new thing he learns which he couldn't do the day before.

Great video! However, you may need to modify the terminology. The first stage of the baby's movement is CRAWLING where the baby moves on the belly (CRAWLING) with support from the arms and by kicking either with the knees or feet (This is what you referred to in Stage 6 of your video as "Army crawl"). Where the baby moves on all fours (belly off the floor/ground) is termed CREEPING.

I have twins (8 Month old - but came 2 month early). One of them is already crawling through the entire apartment and is already noticing if we want to "catch him" and bring him back to a safe position (and is then crawling even faster to escape :D ) The other one is still stuck in between stage 4 and 5 in the same time doing rocking and planking all the time... While the crawling one skipped sitting and planking all at once, The other loves to get into a sitting position or rock back and forth.for half an hour^^ And I totally get what you ment with it was frustrating for you and him seeing how he wanted to reach something but can't... I know he can do it as he sometimes does intended stage 5 movements towards toys... But sometimes he pulls himself 75% towards his target at then stops... Going into rocking and getting frustrated :D Like this Video a lot, wishing your family all the best :)

In the long run it'll be a great thing for them to have each other to learn from!
