Quick reminder we recorded this last week before the point changes. Nothing WILD changed in these lists (Space Marines is now even harder to get to 2k, etc) but technically all Brad's exact numbers are off a bit either direction for points values starting next week. There's also some minor editing errors sprinkled throughout, but it's still a miracle there was time for this to get made in the first place. Please give our editor a round of applause for jamming this out over what was meant to be a break period!

If you want to do 2000 points every time for $500 USD? Deathwing Terminator Army, Belial and 40 Terminators will set you back $509 ($60 a box and $29 for Belial). Technically you don't need the extra 5 terminators (or Belial). You can also do whatever loadouts you want, make all the characters. Make Belial & a Strikemaster I believe they're called now. You can just get 8 boxes for $480 USD then just convert Belial and the other terminators out of the models. 6x basic 5 man deathwing squads, with loadouts of your choice (or Knights as they're more expensive points wise). Then a 5 man command squad. Leaves you 5 terminators to make into an Apothecary, Champion, Ancient, and Belial + Strikemaster. Which will easily set you 2000-2100 points even with the points drops from the recent update they will do. It's also not bad play wise as well as entire army is wound on 4+ only. Deep Strike re-rolls to hit, all 2+ 5++, objective secured, and some other nonsense Dark Angels get as base rules. Shame you guys missed them as it's the best way to price Marines to get to 2k. Benefit is you don't HAVE to paint them bone as there are the easier to paint successor chapters too, and you have a low model count army of 41 models with quite a bit of poseable potential and uniqueness between each model as you can use the knight pieces to spice up some of the more basic terminators. With plenty of heavy weapon variant and being Deathwing can mix/match close combat and shooting squads in one. Vanguard Detachment, take the Deathwing Strikeforce bonus so you get +3 CP as well. So at 2k games you get 15 CP before you start buying relics etc. My only main gripe is that you can't get terminator chaplains on the website still as GW removed the old metal/resin one and they only released a limited edition one a few years back which is crazy expensive on the 2nd hand market. As DA's have special terminator chaplains which makes a great secondary HQ to Belial.

It’s unlikely you’ll see this but your wrong regarding death guard. 9 myphitic blight-haulers ($27*9) 3 blightlord terminator squads ($60*3) and Chosen of Mortarion ($65) is 2010pts on the table so long as you kit the Blightlord terminator to max and use the deathguard ‘champion’ as a deathguard chaos lord you have an army for $488! Using the MUNITORUM FIELD MANUAL 2022 MK II point values.

@@thepoorhammerpodcast I understand your hesitation regarding MBH because no one actually uses them not since 9th Death Guard codex but if you can remember back in the beginning of 9th at 100pts each MBH were completely broken which is why GW dropped a an exterminatos level nerf on them upping their points to 140pts each but we have finally come full circle and they are back to 110pts now (which is what they should have been from the beginning) and with Arks of Omen changes I expect we might see a lot of mechanised imperial guard armies in which case we MBH will be very much needed not least because Belching Fumes Stratagem makes them extremely difficult to shifted (that’s the one that reduces the number all range attacks against them by 1).

I used to have a friend a couple years back who had a collection of Rhino's. He literally just went around conventions and clubs asking for Rhino's, usually got at least one or two. Also got some online by just asking guys who sold used Warhammer. "Hey, i saw your listing for bikes, do you have any spare Rhino's i can just have?" What did he do with these you ask? He built Ork terrain solely out of Rhino parts. I want to say that there were 19 or 20 Rhino's worth ripped apart and chopped up, it was probably more. Everyone he showed it to loved it. Pretty much all terrain pieces on the table were primarily Rhino panels, tracks, stacked gun walls... And that's not even counting the shredded Rhino's he put on pretty much every model he had. EDIT: And yes, half his army was Ork-converted Rhino's. I knew that Rhino's were easy to come by, sure, but literally throwing them on a pile in the corner of your room is a level of stupid i had not considered possible. In total i think he spent some 50$ on the lot of them. I have no idea where that obsession came from. He became known as the Rhino king, absolute shit-tier meme, but it was _glorious._ TL;DR: No seriously don't pay for Rhino's, go to any gathering of Warhammer players, and just ask. 50% chance you'll go home with a Rhino, if not contact info for your local Rhino dealer.

This being *american* MSRP really changes the outcome here. With the MSRP in Norway i was able to get a guard list built for just under 500 dollars. It wasn't even just an armoured one. Using two Cadian Combat Patrol and two Scions Start Collecting with two Russes (One as a TC), a deathstrike, and one additional Sentinel, i was able to get over 2k points. I did try and see if i could use the fact that buying the Commisar set from FW is cheaper than buying three separate plastic ones but getting two from the Scions boxes made it unnecessary, however it would have been incredibly funny to have FW be what comes in clutch to get this list built for under 500.

I have three 3-D printers and have been into the hobby for 3 years now and if you value your time at even a nickel an hour you can pay for the Warhammer armies and save untold amounts of time. Then again learning to assemble models and remove their imperfections, fill gap drill, gun barrels, and paint them to an acceptable level is a whole other profession on its own. (this would require you to take three patrol detachments to use all three magus, but you could buy almost anything with the spare 50$ to get around that, like an abominant to buff your 20 aberrants) Edit: I forgot about the proficient planning upgrades which gives you more wiggle room for options like replacing some of the aberrants with genestealers.

My biggest tip, is if you're modelling-inclined, is to try your hand at scratch building your own vehicles. It's not for everyone, but it's possible (especially with using papercraft as your starting templates). I have a couple dozen tanks that (in materials cost), hit maybe the $200-250 mark. In GW plastic that would easily run you closer to the $1k range. For your models, honestly just find someone with a resin printer, a sheet or two of n/fep film, and ask/offer to buy a couple bottles of resin and a case of beer or something. I know that'd get me saying "yeah sure". Keep in mind that the nfep is the "consumable" part that'll need replacing, as well as a few dozen figures taking a up to a litre to print, along with the effort of washing/curing everything for you. Basically, mind your manners. A bottle of resin, a sheet or two of nfep (ask what they use first), and a case of beer is going to cost you maybe $100. In turn, you're not spending upwards of $500+ on those same miniatures. Do put some of those savings into a good foam case for the things though, resin tends to be brittle, and thin stuff loves snapping.

Daemons actually can get there pretty easily if you're willing to spam Slaanesh chariots. Which maybe is a little unorthodox, but seems like a lot of fun. One Khorne combat patrol, three Slaanesh daemons start collecting, two 120mm oval bases, and one Syll'Esske costs $499.40 MSRP, and gives you 2130 points pre-AoO changes, and 2010 points post-AoO, and fits in a legal list. Another thing that wasn't brought up but is something I have discussed with my playgroup after I bought one. The gladiator kit is literally an impulsor kit with extra bits to make the gladiator parts and it's only like five bucks more or something then the impulsor and it's just like an extra sprue or two tossed in the box. 80$ vs 85$ as of now. If half of these boxes just gave you a gladiator kit in there so a second could be made as that rather than an impulsor it would be so much better. Really I think it should be like the rhino / razorback where they just quit making the impulsor and only make the gladiator as a dual kit.

After some quick noodling, I was able to get Ynnari to 1820 Points for exactly $500 MSRP and Aeldari to 1945 points for $495USD. For Ynnari if you spend $320 on the Aeldari and Drukhari Combat Patrols, $40 on Yvraine and $55 on The Yncarne, $40 on a Voidreaver and $45 on a Warwalker. You have to build/kitbash the Farseer as Eldrad Ulthran, your Archon as Prince Yriel or The Visarch or someone else more point heavy than an Archon, and you have to make an extra Kaballite Warrior squad off the models you get with the boats - but you get pretty close. It's not an amazing list, but it's pretty close to 2000 points, and it feels like it'd synergize well enough with The Yncarne. If $500 was the budget and you were able to use eBay or Amazon and get the discounts, you could easily save the $30-50 needed to buy Wraithguard or Wraithblades to get it to almost exactly 2000 points at $500USD For Aeldari, it's a bit tricky. You get Yncarne for $55, and then you get 2 Combat Patrols and 2 Squads of Wraithguard for 380 Points for $120. Build one Combat Patrol normal except you make the Farseer into Eldrad Ulthran, and on the other Patrol, you turn your 4th squad of 3 Windriders into 1 Farseer Skyrunner, a Warlock Skyrunner, and a Voidreaver using the spare pieces you get from the rest of the combat patrols (Guardian Squads are great for kitbashing, and all these jetbikes are the same base model). You end up with 9 Windriders, but that's the worst thing, the rest of it is pretty unrepetitive, especially since Guardians can be built two ways, Wraithlords can be built differently (or have 1 be a Wraithseer), and you get a fair amount of commanders, infantry, and vehicles

Mostly people just hate it because it's not the Rhino, it's replacing the Rhino, and Primaris units arbitrarily can't ride in the Rhino. The concept and execution of a 'hover-Rhino' is just fine. Second, the meta massively changes like 4+ times a year and everything inevitably becomes good for a while. Eventually Impulsors will get buffed and be viable, and all the people who bitched and moaned about it will look real stupid as they get caught red-handed buying their 2nd or 3rd or 4th Impulsor kit. First time watcher. Made me laugh out loud and made my wife ask me what I was watching, so I got to relay some 40k humor. I don’t play but I’ve lived the game world and idea since Rogue Trader, when I did play on squad level. Commenting to help the algorithm. You guys are fun and very helpful… I won’t be playing 40k at these price points. For 500 bucks I can get that new Jammie portable guitar and learn to djent again. But I’ll watch your content and drool over armies I won’t spend that kind of money on. Huzzah! Keep up the good work.

Amazing video. Only thing I would note is that they didn't forget the blood throne in the demons combat patrol. The unit on foot has a different sculpt to the one that rides the vehicle, probably because the blood throne still hasn't been updated, while the one on foot is fairly new. They're two different sprues.

This video really put some stuff in perspective. You would think that more people would play Custodes and Grey Knights since you get more points per buck, but the lore really sells the minis for you.

If I spend 500 dollars, I don't mind spending 600 dollars on army I like instead of one being forced into. So custodians fall off. I actually like grey knights but being heavy psycher feels intimidating. So people end up on their 3d choice I guess

thing is, in the uk knights cost £105 (about $110 ), and wardogs/armigers cost £55 (about $60), so it could probably be done over here edit: also 10nth ed rules mean 1 knight can be 500pts and that can be done 4 times if you only want the big bois

Hello! I watched this video and loved it! I am a ork player and there is a way to hit 2k in only 410 MSRP from the Warhammer store. The list is stupid but still playable and totals 2020 points. 2 Stompas, being $130 for 705 points each, then the ork combat patrol which allows for that final 600 points. With the extra $90 you can get any ork kit really and also be able to run an Arks of Omen

I've been on a Warhammer kick lately and this video dropped into my recommended feed. It's a lot of fun, I appreciated the insight into army-building--both figurative (gathering workable units for an army) and literal (the actual "build a model kit" part). I've always heard that Warhammer's prices are nuts and its disheartening to see the math in cold, hard numbers. But also, I can see why people are so passionate about this. You guys are alright.

Hey guys, I’m somewhat of a recently new player within the past few years, I started because my best friend really wanted to play needed somebody to play with. I went with imperial guard, I was already into the lore, and I kind of like the aesthetic luckily, around that time they were releasing these little half squad cadian packs for 5 minis for like $8 USD. They were the snap together, kind of like those small Limited addition collectible marines. After doing the mass, I realize that the units cost me half a piece as compared to if I paid full price for the regular squad box. Ended up deciding to buy what must’ve been six or seven of those packs to get my platoon started. Eventually, I added on things like set an a walkers and troop carriers. It’s the main reason I did it is because even though I’ve been playing dungeons and dragons miniatures for a few years, I knew that I was out of practice painting and these guys would be in and out of boxes of a lot, so I kept it simple until I got more funds and time.

  • @adamhanson5565

I decided to take a look at this challenge & use the Age of Darkness box from Heresy as a starting point. You can get there pretty cleanly with that box, the only real issue is that the Spartan isn't very good. I'd argue that it's serviceable, but still not great. I made two lists, a shooty one, and a melee list. Neither one will win you a tournament, but they'll be an okay 2000pts to bring to game night. I decided to go all firstborn, for the flavor of the list, but your could do some tweaks to it to add the newer (and admittedly somewhat better in game) Primaris stuff. The shooting list has got a fair number of bodies, the drop pods & Spartan give you a bit of board control/mobility, and good damage with loads of multi-melta & lascannon shots. I got it to 2000pts, and still had plenty of Tactical Marine bodies unused. My shopping list was: Age of Darkness Box - $299 Heavy Weapons Upgrade Set - Heavy Flamers, Multi-meltas, Plasma Cannons - $42 (this is mostly just for the Multi-Meltas to make Devastators) Contemptor Dreadnought - $60 Drop Pod - $50 Techmarine with Servitors -$47 Total - $498 For the melee list, we're going with Blood Angels, mostly because I love them, but also because Death Company Marines are in a box of 5 for $42. Its fast & the Sanguinary Priest helps with early damage, and can extend the lifespan of your terminators. There's less shooting, but the Spartan & Contemptor aren't totally ignorable for most armies & you get a fair number of Inferno Pistols in these boxes as well. Once you're in melee, you should have plenty of thunder hammers & power fists to work with. After building your VanVets & Death Company, you'll have enough leftover chainswords & bolt pistols to make some assault marines. The Shopping list was: Age of Darkness Box - $299 Sanguinary Priest - $35 Vanguard Veteran Squad - $55 Death Company x2 - $84 Space Marine Jump Packs x3 - $26.25 (you'll put 3 of these on your characters, the rest go to assault marines) Total - $499.25 I think there's probably some Terminator heavy lists, not using the AoD box, that you could also build around the Horus Heresy Terminator which alone are about 3.9 points per dollar.

You could improve the shooty list by cutting the drop pod, replacing the techmarine with a primaris techmarine, and getting another contemptor. I had forgotten about how Strategic Reserves have changed, so the drop pod is less necessary. Also of note, you could make a non-Blood Angels assault list by cutting the Sanguinary Priest & Death Company, and going up 2 more boxes of Vanguard Vets & 1 more pack of Jump Packs & still be within the budget

@@redsampler2017 I also started in 2020, with Indomitus. I’ve got a pretty healthy primaris marine collection going and then I found my true calling in 40k, Thousand Sons. I still need more rubrics (only have 3 kits) and I might need some more scarabs since I only have 2 units of 5. I’ve got enough I can play a few basic builds (mainly Magnus yes or Magnus no), but figure I need to round them out. This will just help me remember the cost of another new army and never do it. I compromised and had a friend in our playgroup print me some OPR minis to serve as Tzeentch daemon proxies because that’s an option for the Sons now and I just dislike the horrors from GW.

When I finally bought a real 2000 pt Tzeentch demon army, I remember it was less than $200 for the whole thing in the late 90s. Yes it was very few models, and yes $200 could just buy more back then, and it was a surprisingly competitive army.
