I mirror myself in your life experience to some extent. As a musician (and fellow keyboard player) I've been on tour quite a bit, not to the extent that you're doing, but enough to know what it's about. I chose to settle down and extend the family in a small town, do piano teaching as a day job and do the odd tour here and there with my bands and projects. It took some ego-killing to agree with that choice for sure, but I don't regret it in hindsight. Thanks for sharing your experience!!

I hear you brother.nice string quartet sound at 0:27. Speaking of flying...I remember once giving our monitor man, the talented Glen Colette, a hard time because my in-ear monitors sounded totally different from the day before, at sound check. He just looked at me and humbly shrugged. Later, I realized that my ears were still 'unpopped' from the flight that morning! Doh! Sorry Glenn! nice string synth pad at 1:45. PS. #4 (waiting) indeed! When we were touring there weren't cellphones, lol, but halfway thru, laptops popped up. #5 - being away, just wait till you have kids! The good tours try to take care of their biggest asset: (us.) Wishing you the best, love your vids and sounds and playing.

oh man what did you do before cell phones? I can just imagine being on stage waiting for soundcheck and doing like, sudoku puzzles out of a book or something.

@@SamGutman haha, well there was the Trib crossword puzzle - Mickey the drummer knew all the TV, Movie and cultural answers; Keith the guitarist had the sports stuff down, Dave the bassist was expert on 'crossword type' questions, and me being the keyboard egghead knew some of the math and science stuff...But being a 5-piece was lucky, the crew was great and pretty much ready for us when we got on stage, so we got to play a little. More recently, even with cell phones, an Italian crew of 2, checking all instruments in each person's mix one at a time (instead of checking one instrument in everyone's mix, then moving on to the next instrument in our mixes) made for some misery. You guys sound great though, so as you said, there's good times to balance the agonizing.

Thanks for sharing your honest experience. One of my favourite bands used to tour in an old bus, living in it (no hotels). They also said how tough and unglamorous it was, they were longing to get back home and actually make music (and be with their loved ones)

Longing to get back to actually making music and being with loved ones was probably the toughest part. Very glad to be off the road for now!

Hang in there and take the most you can, good and bad, from the experience. Next time you can ask for schedules or maybe even a rider.
