    My question was about number five, about no initials or signatures on a checklist. My thoughts are if they are not being able to check off items on their checklist that they might forget where they left off, and forget to do things. I’m getting ready to open my coffee shop in about 2 to 3 weeks and I found these items on your checklist to be very informative, and I will be following 1-4 for sure

    Funny, I was just asking myself this question and something told me to check your videos because I haven’t in a while and boom I see this video! Started implementing this in the cafe and my employees even seemed excited about it because instead of having everyone do everything, splitting things up seems like less work and they are going above and beyond in performing their tasks since they could take pride in everyone knowing “who did it.” Thank you!

    Great stuff here. You won't reshape a culture by enforcing a checklist sign off. Its leadership by fear and intimidation and it will drive away employees. Its also a ton of paperwork.

    Sounds great, a very educational way of seeings the best way. I do question number five, if employees can’t check off things on a list of their responsibilities isn’t that asking for an invitation to forget things?

  • @Therestaurantboss

    Ho Brenda, one has nothing to do with the other, not initialing has nothing to do with not doing the task. They still check it off, they still need to do it. But why the initials if you follow the other systems. If one checklist is assigned to one position with one person, then you know who did or did not do something. What is important here is that somebody is managing the checklist, you can't just give staff a checklist and thats it, you give them the list as a reminder of their duties and then YOU CHECK IN ON THEM. Please watch the ENTIRE video again to ensure you fully grasp the concept.

    Apologies if you've covered these before (didn't find anything in search results): What's your opinion on a franchise vs non-franchise? What's your opinion on a diet-focused restaurant (e.g. keto / low-carb)?

  • @Therestaurantboss

    Just depends on you and your concept. The biggest issue I have with franchise is that most franchises "claim" to give you the tools, marketing, materials, training etc... but SUCK at it. Like really really suck...so then you are stuck paying their fee's and still figuring it all out yourself. Half of my one-on-one clients are franchise owners and their corporate franchise materials/training/marketing SUCK>

    Currently our organization is using a mobile app with paperless forms/checklists. It helps the store mgr and district mgr with multi stores ensure that things are getting done. What are your thoughts on this?

    I like them....I don't love them. I like them for the "digital" reasons you mentioned. I don't like them because they are kind of a pain. There is something so simple (for the staff member) about just having paper and a clipboard with them at all times. Hang it on their station, mark things off, hands are dirty and wet etc. I just find that digital is hard in the kitchen. I really like paper, call me old school, but I know it works. Everytime a client fights my checklist builder in BACON for digital instead of paper, they come back to paper.

    Hi Ryan, I always love to see you videos.. So accurate all points are relevant. Most of my staffs always manipulate checklists .. main reason I see now that I haven't updated any of checklists for more then a year many items in menu is been changed..MY BAD.. I hope these points will help :). I want your input on mobile app like ZENPUT or iAuditor used in restaurants. Are they of any use?? should I invest in them.. or If you know some other Restaurant App for Food Safety checklist please let me know.. Thanks n Regards.

    There are great digital platforms, but I don't like them. Not because of the technology, but because I don't want you to have tablets all over your restaurant. It slows your staff down. Paper still works the best in restaurants. If you must, you can check out www.opsanalitica.com/ and tell Tommy Y that Ryan from TRB sent you.

    Like your videos, that said have to disagree on the signature element. One of the first thing an auditor or health inspector looks at is who has completed the checklists/ tasks and if the manager has verified the jobs. While this might not be essential in a family run , independent restaurant , it is for multi site or chain restaurants. I'd say the secret to checklists is the manager , if they are positive, sell the need of such to the team and they follow up , then the tasks get done and the lists become the tool they are meant to be.

  • @Therestaurantboss

    @Therestaurantboss

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your input. Health inspectors don't care if everything is on a station, they don't care if to go lids are where they are supposed to be. Staff will sign things if you hold them accountable to a signature, even when it's not done. I stand by statements. Checklists are tools to help and don't require a signature. When I fly an airplane, I don't need a signature that I lowered the flaps, the checklist is there so I don't forget to do it. I totally agree with everything you said about the checklist being a tool and its about management, I just have not yet been convinced of the need for a signature.
