You can combine tip 1 and 3 with the logical editor, there are already presets in there with the word random for both ticks and velocity at different %. You can create a macro (and keyboard shortcut) for both together and have a 1 click ‘humanise’ especially if at the end you slightly boost velocity for strong beats as well (another preset). It’s so powerful you can automate a lifeless machine drum into a human in one click
would like to see much more Cubase midi tipps & tricks on this channel, please!!
Very helpful Med thanks a ton.. i make sure i see your videos on -x. 50 speed can't miss out on any details 😊
Thank you, Mendel, very useful tips!
Great video! Cubase has no rival

Cubase's closest rival in terms of features is Logic. And Logic looks a lot better... Cubase NEEDS to work on its GUI!
@Byron101_

@@Nayah9 nope. Logic lags in so many ways. It´s Midi editor is rudimentary compare with Cubase. I miss so many other features in case of composing and editing what I use in Cubase. Cubase is daw king. no doubt. And the GUI is ok with a little tweaking.

@@Byron101_ I did say "closest rival" for a reason. Logic isn't quite there yet in terms of features, but it's miles ahead in terms of GUI. FL Studio's GUI is even better imo. Cubase 13 on the other hand looks a decade behind these DAWs, even though it has more features than both of them. Hell, 13 looks worse than Cubase 12! • Why on earth is there a useless ugly white title bar at the top of Cubase 13 that we can't get rid of? • Why does every single right-click blast us with a blazing white sub-menu? • Why is everything so flat and digital looking? No joke, it looks like a program from the early 2000s! That's cuz the GUI barely changed since then. • The GUI doesn't just require "a little tweaking" to be ok like you say. It requires A LOT of tweaking with a convoluted color-edit system that's both dated and incomplete. • And even then, it only looks "ok". So yes, to reiterate my initial point, Cubase needs to work on its GUI. Badly.
Thanks for sharing Mendel. Great tipps here for everyone. ✌
Superb tips! Thank you. 😊
Super useful. Thank you!
Great as always, thanks Mendel and Steinberg
Many thanks Mendel - nice video, clearly explained, and great tips!
Thanks Mendel, Tips 1 and 3 are brilliant, they willl improve my projects!
This is really high quality stuff, please keep making these! Also cool wacom tablet instead of mouse?
Brilliant tips, Great video

the Midi Gate is Awesome too!
so clean this explanation, thanks for that... and thanks to Reaper also, that has the Filter/Edit velocity tool as well. (cubase is amazing)
thanks! and I agree with @Byron101, let's have more midi tips for us intermediate users of Cubase?!
Great video!
great tips mendel, whenever i did program drums in the past i moved every individual note per hand off grid (or i used midi grooves from Superior Drummer which were already natural) so thanks for the tip about the rough grid, that is very usefull and will be a huge timesaver. Logical Editor is really useful for me too, and your tip with the grid values on the keypad is fantastic as well. i see you have no streamdeck on your desk yet, perhaps you want to look into that, i have one its became so usefull, i have lots of macros and actions setup and i dont need to struggle to remember the keycommands :)
Thank You
Excellent tips! I'm a little confused on tip 2 regarding the piano roll view. Maybe you need to be on Cubase 13 for that to make sense (I'm on 12)
Cubase is next level. Always wonder what the point was of Midigate. That was the one mystery plugin.
Great tips! Which Drum Sampler are you using? Thanks!
I'd love to know more about your use of the graphics tablet instead of your mouse and what you feel it has solved or improved for you in your control of Cubase.
I understand the principle of Tip 5 Midigate but in this demonstration the tom roll was cut off at the end when it was applied !
Excellent tips - thank you. Although it's much better than on the grid, the randomised timings and velocities still seem quite far away from what a human drummer would do. It would be a nice application of AI to add variation based on real life human performances in later versions of Cubase.
Great vid! What is the pen and pad set up?
Yay, it’s Mendel here, haven’t seen you in a while
What is that intro music song? Sounds cool!
Cubase is the best daw in midi composing and editing. no doubt.
What kit did you use in the video? 😮🎉
Great Tips. May I please know the computer configuration that you use? I Use dell laptop, but getting issues of cpu overload when I increase number of tracks. I use cubase 13.
Just curious...how long does it take to learn how to use Cubase as a newby?? Theres SO SO MUCH, its overwhelming!
I'd love to see a deep dive into the logical editor, I've a feeling I'm missing a lot of creative wowowweewaas by not experimenting more with it. Also is there a way to have the grid snap offset when using the drum midi editor ? For instance for quickly drawing in the open hats, if the grid is set to 1/2 this hits the open hats where they should go in a 4x4 beat but also draws notes on the kick, the snap points need snapping along by a half a beat or whatever it maybe ?

You should see dash glitch make an arranging macro using a 4 bar loop. Definitely missing out

You can toggle the grid snap on/off. Key command should be >J< by default. This way you can draw in the notes freely using the grid-lines as fix-point. If this is what you meant...
@R1PPA-C
Ай бұрын
@@procrasti-nation9517 no, for the grid on off I just hold ctrl, this temporarily disables it. I wanted to know if there's a way to nudge the grid so the snap points for a 1/1 grid are offset by 1/2 or whatever I need to nudge by
I have a similair qauntize grid key command set up. But How did you have the drummap set up to where the qauntize matches the qauntize grid you choose? I have to manually select the grid for each individual drum, or kit piece, anytime I want to change the grid no matter what I select qauntize to be.
Just switched to cubase from ableton, how do i see the grid scale on the screen. Ableton was always showing so when i zoom in or out i knew what grid i am on. Thanks
Is the Logical Editor only in Pro? Can't find it in Elements.
What version of cubase is this? Cubase 10 seems to be missing these
I didn't get the midigate trick 😞 Especially around 10'28'' when you "connect" to the MIDIGate. Why don't you just have a MIDI gate inserted as a MIDI Effect on the track? Why is it a side-chain?
And I 've always wondered why would anyone need midi-gate? Now I know. 😎
@alanredversangel
Ай бұрын
Strangely enough the last thing I'd use it for is to gate the very thing that the midi info was taken from. Seems like a regular gate could do just that. Anyway the possibilities are endless like making a synth pulsate to the rhythm of a drum piece.
Hi Cubase team, can you please fix the title bar being separated from the menu bar in Cubase 13 on Windows 11? It's a waste of screen space and it's too much white on screen. Please also fix the white line that appears at the bottom of the screen when Cubase is minimized then maximized again. Thanks!
Why not use the midi modifiers rather than the quantise tick?
@machineagevoodoo2106
Ай бұрын
The modifier is constantly changing until you freeze them..
I love cubase. But pulling up the PLE for randomizing values is so ancient. Other daws simply have a modulator button for this inside the note editor window. Velocities, notes, quantise. Drag a percentage and be done. I'm sticking with cubase but some things are overdue to be updated
The Midi Gate (Tip 5) is very useful, but you have explained it way too fast... On which track do you put the Midi Gate Effect? How does the audio track (with the Toms) get gated by the Midi Gate... Did not understand that routing even after watching 3 times..
Strange - the guy speaks like a deaf person but works with audio!
His voice sounds a bit like davie504 😅
Great video!
