Cipolla is pretty good, but rather ignores other factors such as desperation and fear. Perfectly rational and sensible people can still spout stupid nonsense if pressed to it - think about North Korea, where it's basically a survival strategy. Similarly, if that's 'the way the wind's blowing' a lot of people will opt for the safer path of going along with it. Imagine if everyone is starving, your kids are starving, and the guy in charge of the food supply says: "Your family can have food, but your neighbour's can't." How long are you going to stay on that moral high ground? He also seems to ignore the power of media and propaganda, pushing a one-sided view of the 'Nation' (and the World) from the moment we learn to read. I'm not just talking about Autocracies here, perfectly liberal-seeming Democracies do it just as much. The main purpose is to make you always think you're in the minority if you question anything about the powers-that-be.

The fifth law postulates that the Pillagers are somehow restrained in their damage dealing by the extent of the personal benefit they can extract from their wrongdoing. However, criminal psychology data does not support that premise. "Some people just like to watch the world burning". Criminals are often like that.

Ah but there's one aspect left out. They don't want to watch "the world" burning. They just want to watch YOUR world burning. Big distinction.

" is a poor choice of words for these folks.... but I don't think English already has a better word, and so propose the following new and special purpose past tense of "to think...." "THUNK." That word seems to sound just right to describe people who fit into this category ... People who believe that they have already thought things out, and are unwilling to hear anything not supporting their views...

The "Second Law of Stupidity" is largely inconsistent with Group 4. They neither benefit themselves or others. Thus a successful "stupid" person illustrates that they are capable of looking out for "their best interest", the longer their success goes on. If "Stupid people" is a description of Group 4, the people who have benefitted themselves cannot be "Stupid". So there appears to be a little false specificity here. Not that I don't agree in part with #2. But also the rhetoric seems to imply what I find to be a false dichotomy--a false _binary_, if you will, that you are either in a class of "Stupid people" or you are not. For example if "stupid people" cause "great harm", maybe that's because the people in power acted stupidity, as reviewed by the people out of power that didn't have the opportunity to illustrate their own alternate stupidity. So, I wouldn't put too much in these "laws". Besides Marxism is *WAY* stupid, and "their own best interest" sounds like Marxist and quasi-Marxist jargon, enough to speculate what it means when someone things "their own best interest" is a self-evident thing (which does not mean that it is not at times self-evident).

Cipolla's Five Laws of Human Stupidity describes precisely some of the idiots we have today. For instance the cancel culture and the radical green movements. This video should be broadcast in every country in the world to wake the non-stupid people to the damage stupid people are doing to their countries.

Okay, you officially lose me at 8:49, how can we trust that "rational people" have "strength in numbers" if #3 is "Always and Inevitably, Everyone Underestimates the Number of Stupid Individuals In Circulation". Doesn't expecting "strength in numbers" sound like a good way to trust that *you're* not underestimating the number of "stupid people"? This just sounds to me like a modern, secular pretention at separating the "sheep from the goats". And it's false rigor bothers me.

Why is it that commentary like this seems always to point to nazism and never to communism/socialism or collectivism which makes nazism look like the minor leagues?

Because nazis are by far the worst, most pathetic, and least unintelligent people there are. They are driven by a deep-seated insecurity to hate. They know they're weak and inadequate, so they need to believe that other races are beneath them. The truth - that they are losers - hurt too much for them to accept.

Because social engineers don't want people supporting the nuclear family, the household, the gated community via extension the gated county or state. I don't lock my doors because I fear my family will flee my house, rather I do it to keep out the stupid people. Nationalism works the same way....that's why its always demonized. Its funny to think that no one ever questions why fascism is so bad when the rich and powerful seem to use it all the time? It's the same stupidity of blaming the gun instead of the murderer.

Yes… I absolutely agree with you. In fact, this is empirical proof that the author himself is subject to the same rules he denounces. In the West, criticizing communism is equivalent to labeling yourself as right-wing or worse. If it were only for numbers, communism would win by a landslide over Nazism in hundreds of millions of deaths. But yes... the image of comrades fighting against capitalism with raised fists still seduces idiots in the West. This is why the countries of the former Soviet Union are clear about who their enemy was.

The Intelligent watch the entire video and think about the data presented. The Intelligent then realize that the 4th law of stupidity applies to john, chuckle, and continue on with their day.
